While the others trained for the grand bout, senku along with chrome and Suika were making the silver spear

"So this hair looking stuffs gonna turn into silver?" Chrome asked bewildered while looking at the rock which had the silver sticking under it, which looked like roots " that's bad! I was almost positive they were some kind of roots" Ginro looked over and noticed " so cool" he says full of excitement " their gonna make my silver spear who that huh? Wow!" He pulled a weird but happy face " science is super weird isn't it?"

He then turned to his brother, who was battling kohaku " hey that reminds me, kinro" he says catching Their attention " don't you have an awesome golden spear?" He asked, His smirk Broaden as he gazed over at the spear leaning against a tree, which didn't have any gold " oh whoops, I remember now, You don't have one!"

Kinro face morphed into an angry one, gritting his teeth " I kinda can't believe we're only gonna have the silver one and not the gold-" just then he heard a familiar red head

"Ginro..." he flinched " you need to move your arms not your mouth!" she yelled as she roundhouse kicks him into a tree , he then Collapsed on the ground " warriors don't leave themselves open for the enemy to attack!" Kohaku was fangirling in the background at the so called goddess while Kinro stared in awe

" so I meant to ask you, why are we making a silver spear?" Chrome asked out of curiosity

" easy, Because it's essential to our quest to acquire the most dangerous material" senku answered as he lifted the spear with the end coated in melted silver

" huh?"

After some time it was finished, Ginro stared in awe and excitement as it was held in his head while looking up at it, showing his reflecting " so shiny! So awesome!"He exclaimed with tears almost like a waterfall

Him and Suika start jumping around in excitement " thank you senku! I love my silver spear!" Meanwhile Kinro turns his head away huffing as ginro starts kissing the spear

Senku chuckled " you don't have to flap your gums one millimetre to thank me" he says gaining the boy's attention, he gets up with a bag over his shoulder, which looked to be carrying glass containers " the fact is, I didn't make that for You, come on, we need to get moving"

"Ginro, your job today to be Is the teams body guard" He gasped with eyes sparkling, he was happy with his title, he also imagines himself holding the goddess in his arms, which seemed to add to the fantasy

"I'm ginro the guarded I'm guarding the bodies your not gonna get past me!" Cheered as he marched in front of the group

Which kohaku's feels the need to speak considering they were walking past the hot springs where she first water "Wait a sec
...I come here all the time to get water from these hot springs"

"Yeah what's the deal?" Chrome asked confused "I thought this was supposed to be a dangerous mission" he stated

"It gets dangerous up ahead" senku's Remarked " Ginro quit messing around and hold your spear steady and point forward!" He says While the boy flinched, Yuna stands in Front and aimed the spear forwards "The silver spear acts as a sensor, That's the whole reason I made it in the first place" senku states "Play close attention to the tip of it, It's very important, You'll need to notice if that silver begins turns black"

"Turns black? What do you mean?" Ginro asked confused

"If that happens you'll be dead in seconds" senku says with a serious dark tone and expression on his face "I'm not joking"Which made ginro Wheeze in fear, the other two were shocked and confused "If that turns black you need to get away in point one seconds, That's the signal for all of us to start running, The enemy Your guarding us from will kill us if we make one mistake, It's the greatest hurdle in making sulfer drugs, We could die very easily" he explains

Ginro gulps but nods

Time skip

Senku and chrome were peering down at the river they came across " it looks to me like there isn't a single fish in this river" " your right, nothing but green chatsubomi-goke Moss" senku stands up " this is it for sure"

"So it's coming up" kohaku notes " that greatest hurdle you mentioned before"

"Everything's okay." A voice shivered said, They all turned and saw that Ginro was very far away behind them, Every step he made was full of nervousness. "It's still okay. It's all still okay. It's still silver not black. still okay. Still okay. Looking good, still okay —." 

"Hey!" Senku appeared in front of him. "What the hell man?! Your holding the sensor so you need to be in front of us!" He exclaimed

" but you told me I was gonna die! So I'm terrified!" Ginro cried

" ginro, let me take it then" yuna says placing her hand out " I'll stand in front while pointing the spear" she offered"Absolutely not!" Kohaku protested " I can't let the goddess risk her life! As her protector I'll shall do it! Allow me goddess!" Kohaku offered yuna gave a confused look " Okay?..."

"Ginro give me the spear!" Kohaku ordered

"Not a chance!" He protested frowning " I'll do it! I can be brave too!" They kept on walking while Ginro kept stuttering all the way

Senku started getting tired from the long walk, ginro was still muttering " still okay....it's still okay" he then froze when, he saw something in front. It made his eyes widen in awe "You guys! You might wanna check this out." Chrome took a few steps forward and saw what Ginro saw. " well senku, yuna, We're here,."

Senku sighs while catching his breath " what I tell ya, we finally arrived at the source of our most killer consonant for the drug"

"I don't really understand what it is we're supposed to be gathering here, but it does look like a place we're you'd find something important." Kohaku breathed while gazing "It's absolutely beautiful... Devine...An entire spring of emerald green." Everyone but senku was staring in awe

Ginro gasped in awe, somehow he could see a beautiful woman, with long turquoise hair, smiling at him, and he starts walking towards the lake without anyone realising

Chrome put down a bag full of crystal bottles. Senku looked around, not looking at ease. "Something wrong, Senku?" Chrome asked. "Is this not it or what?"

"No, this is it. Not doubt. This green water is exactly the stuff we're after. But the geography bugs me. The poison gases that form here. The hydrogen sílfide and sulfur dioxide, are heavier than air. They settle in low spots like this one." He explained.

"I get it now! that what the silver spear's supposed to warn us about?" Chrome inquired

"Yeah. Silver reacts with hydrogen sílfide, it blackens instantly..." Senku looked down

Ginro was dangerously approaching the green spring, he was too charmed by the beautiful woman he didn't Notice the spear turning black. "Get away, Ginro!" Senku yelled, which scared A few crows in a process and flew away, The almost turned completely black, But yuna had quickly rushed in and grabbed him behind his collar, making him Yelp as she pulled him back

They saw the birds sore above the lake, all of a suddenly fall into the lake, the others stare in surprise, the maiden in ginro's fantasy turned into a nightmare, her face melting " how did you know when to stop! If you had taken one more step we could have been together for ever!" She roars

"Ahhh! Get away get away from me!" Ginro started yelling.

"Calm down ginro! It's okay! Your safe! There's no one there!" Yuna exclaimed

One of the crow's wings started melting away, it was quite frightening.

"Woah...that bird just It melted...." kohaku stated in shock

"Alright! what's going on with the water here?!"  Chrome questioned in fear

"It's got something that was discovered By an Alchemist way back in the 8th century, but during our time, it served as the foundation for a whole variety of chemical industries... Sulfuric acid."  Senku explained, The group were now back at base, ginro was traumatised by what went down and was being nuzzled by the wolfs for comfort, with the now black tainted silver spear in front of his feet

"And we can't make the medicine for Ruri without this dangerous stuff?"  Chrome inquired

" not only that, we're gonna need it for all types of chemistry, it's essential for further advancement." Senku stated. 

Kohaku grabbed the bag. " well then, we're gonna have to brute force our way To gather some, I'm not afraid to risk my life, if it'll save my sister. I should be fast enough-" Senku stopped Kohaku by placing a hand her shoulder" here's a story back in my day, there was a research group that went to an area of sulfuric acid like that one. The man in front knelt for a moment, probably just tying his shoes..... poor guy was dead. He knelt right into an invisible hydrogen silfide. It sounds crazy but it's true" Suika shivered in fear while holding yuna's legs, who placed her head on her head, Chrome and kohaku were in shock

"Humans don't stand a chance when Mother Nature wants us dead. You can be ridiculously fast, but it won't make a difference"

"So what in the hell are we supposed to do, Senku? I have to save Ruri, no matter what!"

" there's still a way for us to do that" Senku smirked. "I know just the thing, we'll make gas masks." 

Kaseki was following Senku's instructions and started making a gas mask, he starts coatingsome stuff, It was turning dark.  "The only way to fight a chemical enemy is with some chemistry of our own." he chuckled "There's no telling how effective this is gonna be" while senku looked at the mark in his hand, chrome was looking at the instructions "And with this experiment, we can't simply rely on trial and error, Because error equals deat." Senku looked carefully towards Chrome and san.

"All right, we've gotta make my mask next." Chrome said

"You won't need one of these." Senku interjected. 

It was night, The stars were beautiful as always, but Senku and Chrome were having a serious discussion.  "Sorry Chrome, but you won't be going on this mission any more, you be staying here."

Chrome tried to argue "What? Where's this coming fr—" "just Shut up and listen to me." Senku looked at his mask. "There's no guarantee these things will work, and if all our science bite the big one Then who's gonna be left to save ruri?" Chrome couldn't argue with that

"Every humans die eventually. But their knowledge can go on living. It's can even be passed down for millions years. I hope your ready, Chrome. Because im gonna pass all the science I know down to you, over two million years of it"

Chromes eyes widened, feeling the pressure he exclaimed while waving his hand " woah! Wait wait! Hang on would ya! It's too soon! Quit talking like I'm replacing you or something! that's just asking for trouble!"

Senku's chuckled "Well, isn't that sweet, You really care about me" he shrugged "What are you, my girlfriend? Dying doesn't interest me one millimetre, calm down"Senku said " but if we don't want Ruri to die, we gotta go through that cloud of poison gas. And get us so me sulfuric acid. Now of the three of us end up kicking the bucket together, then in a flash, all knowledge of science will disappear from the face of the earth." Chrome stayed quiet for a time and narrowed his eyes. "So you want me and yuna stay behind cause you might die."

"Yeah, but first I have to fill your head with science" senku says with his hack turned

Chrome clenched his fists and took a step. "if that's the case! I'm not listening gonna listen to you!"

"Ah?! Stop acting like a kid! Don't get fussy cause staying home—"

"Your missing the point!" Chrome interrupted " I won't be helping you with your crappy plan! I doubt yuna would either! Especially if it means that it's just okay for my friend to die!"Chrome declared

Meanwhile said girl and kohaku were sitting in the trees watching everything going on below

. "Sorry to disappoint you, Senku, but I'm not taking your knowledge. So if you happen to croak out there, it's just gonna be game over for science!" Chrome punched the tree next to Senku's head

"You're coming back alive, there's a ten billion percent! You have to, Senku!" They watch as chrome walks the opposite way while talking " I mean it doesn't make sense anyway, whys the guy who knows every thing about science risking his life with that poison gas, Send me or somebody else, After all, I thought you always went with the most logical, Well making me stay back isn't logical at all. Are you just trying to protect me? Like I'm your kid or something?" Chrome wore a determinate expression. "don't you dare patronise me, asshole."

Senku sighs "I'm not patronizing anyone, idiot." Senku crossed his arms. "Also I'm being completely logical, I know everything about how the gas mask works, and about the materials we're going to get, our odds of success are best if I handle this, end of story"

"You want to increase our odds? That's not how you do it" chrome stated "We'll have a better chance for success if you and I tag team, to save each other if we run into trouble, Am I wrong?" Chrome inquired

Senku was surprised, then grinned " if we run into trouble we'll be dead by the poison gas, It'll be too late to save each other"

"Well I mean something like 'Shit I'm getting a killer cramp help goddess! type situation!' Not a worst case scenario!" chrome stammered, Senku chuckled, hands on his hips" guess you do have a point, it might be by a microscopic present, it would raise my chance at survival"

"Taiju and Yuzuriha, your friends....their spies in the Tsukasa Empire right? They're putting everything on the line you know, your lives are in each others hands, if I'm your friend, it means I'm not higher or lower than you!" Chrome clenched his fist " so I don't need you to protect me!"

He then lifted his fist. "Cause I've got your back! And you've got mine right?!"

Senku scoffed. "Man, this means more work for us, cause now we gotta make another gas mask, I hope your happy." Senku crossed near him. "Okay, I've got your back chrome, your life is on my hands"

"That's right, and your life's in my hands." Senku then walked off " damn, even when his friends are right there, he always refuses they're help, to go with the 'logical way' well I still don't know how much logic he has in his brain sometimes" yuna says getting up

" you've known each other for a long time, haven't you goddess?" Kohaku asked suddenly out of the blue

" yep, we've known each other since we were kids, even back then" yuna chuckled " he hasn't changed at all" she then jumped down " I'm going to sleep, got a lot of work to do tomorrow, goodnight" she waved as she watched to the hut

" night..." The girl watched the 'goddess' walk away, meanwhile kohaku was in deep thought

Flash back

In her memories, She stood before her father and her sister

"Kohaku, now that mothers no longer with us, we need to have a crucial talk, the priestesses most important duty, do you know what that is?" She asked "The hundred tales, The knowledge contained within these stories must be past down from generation to generation, Our way of life wouldn't survive without them"

Kohaku stared at her confused

"Do you understand kohaku, Ruri's days in this earth are dwindling rapidly" her father stated, which kohaku gasped in shock

"We can not afford to let the hundred tales be lost forever, Your in perfect health if ruri dies you'll take her place" he said

"I refuse to except that! I won't be taking any part over anything!" She exclaimed

"Wha!!?"

"I have no intention in being a part of this!
Not if it means that afterwards it's okay for my sister to die!" She yelled with tears in her eyes then ran out

"Where are you doing kohaku?!" Her father exclaimed

Where she went was to the spring, with the large jar to collect some of the spring water, then running back with it to the village

'If I'm in a position to take over the role of priestess, Ruri will have no reason to keep living'

"I know what to do, I'll be have to make father hate me, I'll be the wild daughter
Someone utterly unfit to become the priestess, But I won't stop carrying this healing water, Even if I have to do it thousands of times, If that's what it's gonna take to cure ruri, I'll do it"

Flash back end

"You know, You and I are more alike than you'd think" she said to chrome who listened "And to be honest, If my sister were to marry a man like you, I think it make anyone in the village Really happy, But unfortunately you weren't blessed with the ability to fight" she chuckled slightly "I suppose the gods aren't considerate like the warrior goddess huh, If everything goes according to plan Ruri will be marrying either kinro or ginro, I know you like the goddess, but you've still gotta prove yourself worthy" she stated " but if you don't manage to prove it, how about this, would you like me to be your wife as conciliation?"

" ha, your not completely like her, she acts more of a lady, But you are a gorilla"She  chucked a bit, before he received multiple hits from her foot, leaving some bumps "Like I said, A gorilla" he smiled Ignoring the pain

" by the way, what was that about any way, got a crush on me or something?" He asked all smug like

She chuckled sarcastically "Not a chance"

"Ya that's what I though, then don't say crazy stuff like that"

The next day

they started making the other masks, one for Chrome and one for yuna "This is a lot like when we made Edison's light bulb. First, we steam-roast some bamboo." Senku demonstrated

"Whoa, you can really use glass to start a fire?"  Chrome stared in awe

" Add potassium carbonate, extracted it from ash. We also used in our ramen making." Senku poured the substance in the coal pot

Kohaku Along with yuna mixed it together alongside Kaseki

Senku then poured it in the powder with the leaf like bowls help " this black powder, is activated charcoal mix, mixed with potassium carbonate. It'll trap the poison gas and neutralise it."

"Now we have our own chemical barrier to keep out poison gas!" 

Acquired gas mask!! 

Senku and Chrome along with yuna wearing their gas masks.  "Time for us scientists and warrior to return for a tag team rematch!" Chrome exclaimed

" yeah!" Yuna smirked behind the mask

Senku chuckled " We're gonna get over the greatest hurdle together, We'll come home victorious, carrying jars of sulfuric acid."

Time skip

The three made they're way back to the location, but this time, without ginro, who was sitting legs on his knees against the shed

Flash back

" I won't go!" He protested " the fairy of the spring put a curse on me!" Ginro exclaimed "My silver spear turned black and that bird melted! So there is no way I'm ever going back there again!" He yelled as he took a hold of the shed's stairs.

"Don't be a baby Ginro... Come on, we're going!"  Chrome groaned walking to pull him away

"Nah It would be better if he stayed here, He'd only slow us down" Senku commented, before turning serious "Listen, What happened at the spring wasn't a curse, It's science" He rubbed a cloth against the darkened silver spear with a black liquid " Rub the black sulfuric acid sludge with some kind of alkaline base, and it'll turn silver again. Even some warm ashes will do the trick."  The spear was silver again.  "Ah the poison gas sensor's back!"  Chrome cheered

"Now we can head back to the sulfuric acid spring." 

While ginro stayed behind

Flash back end

Senku, yuna and Chrome were gone, matching their way to the location of the sulfuric acid, chrome held the silver spear forward in ginro's place, just then the tip started turning black making him freeze With wide eyes, remembering what senku said

" the poor guy was dead..."

Then the memory of the bird melting

'Literally do or die this time...' he didn't dare move, a small drop of sweat slipping down his face ' do we really stand a chance against this? One breath can mean Instant death....' he then noticed the other two slowly running towards it and yell " the hell?!" Taking the mask off by accident before it back on " are you two seriously just running up to it?!"

" if you stand around huffing and puffing in fear, the gas mask won't be able to keep up with purifying the air" Senku explained "It's a ridiculous concept, freak out to much and you die got it, Let's go" Senku said

" let's just get this over with" yuna says

"Yeah I understand the reasoning Damn it, I'm not as ballsy as you two are-" he cut himself off when he noticed the shaking hands

And realised, they're just as scared as he was, He then slapped his cheeks and the three walked towards the lake to collect the sulfuric acid

Back at camp

Ginro was still trembling, while kaseki was working on what looked like another gas mask " this is for the birds, I could be doing so many other things, besides sitting with this" he said to himself.

"Senku, yuna and Chrome have got to be insane...."ginro muttered, Kaseki turned to Ginro. "Mm?"

"I mean do they not think that it's scary?! One wrong move and your dead! You know! I hate when people pull that stuff! Trying to pretend they're brave when they're just crazy!"  He exclaimed " so you'd prefer to stay home and  run your mouth rather than run towards danger, and I suppose you feel like a loser compared to them because your so weak ." Kaseki said. 

Ginro flinched
"...No I don't..."

Kaseki picked up some string  "Don't worry, Ginro.  You want my opinion, I don't think your the slightest bit weak." Kaseki assured him. " fear is the secret to a long life. And it should be convincing coming from an fogy like me, I used to be a real wimp, and I guarantee those kids are scared too, there's not a soul out there that's immune to fear" ginro looked over at Kojaku and kinro training

'Oh yeah, I hadn't thought about it before...'The thought that came to mind was of kinro having to go up against magma, him smirking while kinro looked slightly scared, even if he was trying to hide it, then the magma in his head turning blurry  'I can only image how terrifying it must be for kinro, With his fuzzy eyes, to go up agains magma...'

Kaseki got back up "But for the sake of something precious to us, we try to overcome our fear, using our brains and our heart, That's what they're doing, Well At least that's my take on it" Ginro then started pondering on what kohaku said ' the only thing I want, is to save my sisters life..'

He furrowed his eye brows, He finally understood

"Oh dear, it would seem I let myself get carried away and made another one of this" the old man says holding up the mask in his hand " guess I should just leave it here" he placed it on the ground next to the glass tank "Don't really have a use for it" he then walked away and ginro walked towards it, picking it up

With the Others

Chrome and yuna carefully scooped some of the sulfuric acid into the glass containers while senku mined some of the material in the earth, Just then one of the bubbles from the lake popped, creating a hole in the rubber, chrome gasped noticing it " senku! The hose on your gas mask is melting and is about to burst open!" Chrome rushed to Him, which caused yuna to panic

Senku quickly grabbed some of the tape he hand and wrapped it around the whole " that was close, good thing we came out here as a team" he said, but sadly as chrome went to him, some of the rock was weakened cause of the sulfuric acid, and once chrome had stepped over it, it broke

Senku's eyes widened, in slow motion chrome was falling towards the lake ' this is bad...like actually bad, Senku's trying like crazy to catch up to me, don't bother man...there's no chance in hell-' his thoughts were cut off by yuna grabbing his foot, but slipping in the process, but managing to throw him to safety ' yuna! No!' His eyes widened

' sorry guys, looks like This is it...at least save ruri and everyone else'

Just then someone picked up the sliver spear thrust out to yuna, who caught the tip, holding on with all her strength as she was only an inch from dying, They're eyes widened at who it was " ginro?!??"He was the one he had rushed to the spear and thrusted it out for yuna to catch, but he was starting to struggling to keep it up

He started Hallucinating the melted maiden with blue hair and wings, he was also struggling to keep his balance and strength up "T-to heavy!" He grunted

" you've got to control your breathing ginro!" Senku warned " your gas mask can't keep up with you!"

" it can't?!" He exclaimed with tears streaming down " is the poison gas going to kill me?! Am I going to die right now?!"

While yuna dangled on the stick, The silver tip of the spear turned black again" the activated charcoal and potassium carbonate will keep you safe I swear!" Senku stated as he and chrome rushed to help "But only if you control your breath! I know that you can over come your fear! It's how you got out this car isn't it?"

" yo ginro! Listen To this" chrome said pointing at the heart, then At his head " and think with this! No matter how powerful nature can be, It doesn't have a heart to listen to or a brain to reason with, but humans are different, that's all we've got going for us!"

"You can do this ginro!" Yuna yelled

Ginro clenched his eyes shut 'right! I'm ginro the bodyguard!' As he thinks the hallucination of the melted maiden was getting closer, but he opened his eyes narrowed with determination 'I'll over come my fear with my head and my heart!' He was so determined, he managed to start lifting yuna away from the lake, until he finally managed to throw her up

After retreating the sulfuric acid, senku placed a lid on top of the bottle

"We've got a bad tag team with me and Senku the scientists" chrome smirked

"Yuna the warrior" said girl also smirked

"And me the bodyguard" and finally ginro too

"Together we overcame the greatest hurdle so far, Sulfuric acid acquired!" Senku announced

"Yeah!!" Chrome and ginro cheered "Woohooo!" Along with yuna

I'll admit writing the last scene was hard, considering the melted lady being absorbed into the bottle, I didn't know how to write it considering ginro was probably hallucinating cause of his fear, I don't know how it works
