Toe Pick
Thanks to Mariecries for this idea! With Christmas day coming soooo soon I just HAD to do one of these. I might get one more in before new years but no promises haha. Merry Christmas and enjoy!!!
You let out a breath as you pushed what felt like the millionth file away from you. You leaned back in your chair and leaned your head back with a groaning, slowly rubbing your throbbing temples. With your eyes closed, you started to hum a song that was stuck in your head, shimming your body as best you could in your tight chair. Soft chuckles next to you alerted you to an audience you didn't have sooner.
You dropped your hands into your lap, keeping your eyes closed as you spoke. "These are not the droids you are looking for. Move along."
"Stand down, princess, I'm just here to give you a head's up. Pretty boy is on his way over here."
Your eyes flew open as you sat up quickly, nearly throwing yourself off your seat and onto the ground. You held onto your desk as you looked around, your heart beating wildly.
"What? Where?"
Morgan chuckled as he took his seat at his desk starting on his own stack of papers. "Chillax girl, he's a bit preoccupied at the moment."
Suddenly the BAU doors opened and the man in question came stumbling in, his arms laden with a box full of various Christmas decorations and hats. Spencer smiled as he handed a passing JJ an elf hat with attached ears. Emily got a 'Merry Christmas' beanie while Rossie got a regular Santa hat. You couldn't help but smile at his bright and happy face, your insides going absolutely nuts for the adorable guy.
He set down his box of goods on his desk just across the way from you, his smile lighting up the whole room as he took things out, placing them around his desk and the other desks around him. he even picked up another hat, making his way over to Morgan and putting it on his head. Or at least attempted to. The bald officer shook his head, swatting at the hat al while not taking his eyes off his current paper.
"No thanks kid. Maybe give one to (Y/n), might hide the nap hair she got from staying here all night."
You gave Morgan a scowl, sticking your tongue at him despite knowing he couldn't see you. You got up and walked up to Spencer to take the hat from him but the tall analysist evaded you, lifting the hat well above your head.
"Spence, come on, I just want to be festive!" You wined annoyingly as you reached for it, standing up on your tip toes, hopping.
Spencer smiled, shaking his head. "Nope, not this one."
You let out a frustrated groan despite the smile plastered on your face. "Oh yeah? Had no idea we had assigned hats." You reached up again but stumbled forward your hand reaching up to stop yourself by pressing against his chest. You bit the inside of your cheek as you tried not to think too hard about his toned chest.
Spencer let out a chuckle, his dark eyes looking down happily into your own (e/c) ones. "Only you do." His voice came out in a whisper that sent pleasant shivers down your back.
Rossi walked over to the box on Spencer's and pulled out a cute hat that looked like a Christmas sweater with reindeer, snowflakes, and candy canes all in the colors of green, red, and white. He lifted it, dangling it like a surrender flag.
"Is this the one?" Rossi asked.
Spencer looked over but didn't say anything as he tossed the hat he was keeping away from you aside into JJ's lap. You stepped back as Spencer sidestepped to his desk, snatching the hat from Rossi's hand. Then he appeared in front of you again, just as close as before, you could feel his breath on your cheek.
"This," his voice still in a soft whisper as he opened the hat then moved some of your hair back from your face, "is for you."
You held your breath as your middle erupted with butterflies. Gently, Spencer placed the cute winter beanie on your head, his hands tracing down your face as his lips pulled up into a wistful smile.
"There. Now you are all festive."
A corner of your mouth lifted in a soft smile as your face tingled where the tips of his fingers had touched your skin. though it felt like the two of you were staring at each other for several minutes, it was only a few seconds, enough tie for the rest of the group around you shared knowing looks.
Hotch's phone went off, effectively breaking the moment. You cleared your throat as you stepped away from Spencer, the handsome man looking around at nothing as he scratched the back of his neck. You caught your reflection in one of the windows and smiled, loving the way the hat looked on you.
But you weren't left to admire it long. Hotch got a call giving them permission to work on a case they have been waiting to be asking in on. You looked to Spencer and he gave you a small nod. Despite the years of working on the team, you still looked to him for reassurance, just as you did the first day you started.
As the team boarded the jet, Hotch gathered everyone, having a small announcement before getting to the case.
"There is a large possibility we will be stuck in New York with all the weather and snow going on. So be prepared to stay an extra night or two after we solve this case."
"That is if we solve the case fairly quickly. Christmas in New York wasn't in my plans this year."
You took a seat next to Spencer on one of the short couches, making you sit fairly close. He happened to overhear you, resulting in him giving you a hopeful smile.
"I hope we do get stuck there for an extra day or two."
You gave him an incredulous look. "Oh, really? You do know Virginia gets fairly the same amount of snow as New York, so you won't be seeing anything special."
A slow, shy smile appeared on his lips before he glanced at you, his eyes full of mischief. "Oh, I know." But he didn't say anymore.
You raised a brow and stared at him for a moment longer before shaking your head and turning to the file in your hands. But for some reason, you couldn't shake the feeling he was hiding something from you.
~~~~~
Sure enough, the case was solved and with time to spare. The weather was nice and not too terribly snowy but Hotch had waited too long to call for the jet to be prepped leaving the team to unanimously vote on staying for the rest of the day. You didn't mind that too much, especially since that gave you time to be with Spence in a non-stressful environment.
You were down in the lobby of the hotel the team had been using getting a few snacks from the vending machines when you saw Spencer and Morgan walk through the front doors. You couldn't help but pause and watch the way Spencer just existed; talking, walking, smiling, and laughing. It helped to see him all bundled up and lightly dusted with little snowflakes, making him look absolutely adorable.
Upon seeing you Spencer smiled wide, giving you a small wave of his hand. Morgan smirked, shaking his head as he shrugged off his coat in the warm hotel.
"You've got it bad, man."
Spencer's face fell but he did well to hide it from you. "Can you really tell?"
The tough former cop chuckled, nodding his head back at you who was still staring. "Well enough to know she's the exact same way with you."
Spencer looked at you and couldn't help but smile as you gave him a cute nod, rising a fist full of snacks in greeting. You were bundled up too but that was because your heater was broken in your room and you didn' feel like giving it to another guest because you could "handle a few cold nights the same temperature as my heart". That made him laugh because that action alone proved you had a big warm heart.
Morgan clapped the younger man on the shoulder and nodded back to you again, winking as he walked away. "Do what you told me, man. She'd love it."
Spencer nodded tightly, looking down with a small smile as his friend left for his room. Looking up, he saw you making your way across the lobby and over to him, your smile growing with each step. You paused in front of him, looking up into his dark eyes, giving him a perfect view of your sparkling (e/c) ones.
Subconsciously, Spencer reached up and tucked a loose hair behind your ear, smiling as he noticed what hat you were wearing. So before his nerves got the better of him he spoke quickly, his hand falling to gently grasp your upper arm.
"I found a place we can go ice skating and so I was hoping you could somehow fit 'ice skating in New York' into your plans."
His shoulder relaxed and his smile grew as you took a step closer, raising your hands full of snacks. "I'll bring the food, you get the hot cocoa."
"Perfect."
Between the two of you, you somehow got all the snacks into pockets, your face blushing with the realization of how much you had gotten, the hunger in your gut growing slowly. But Spencer didn't mind, he thought it was endearing, the blushing and the large number of snacks. He took your arm and laced it through his, looking down at you with a kind smile.
"Hopefully it's not too crowded."
The two of you stood in shock at how crowded Bryant Park was. Slowly you looked at each other before bursting out in laughter.
You shook your head as Spencer lead you to the skate rack. "Oh my gosh no, I am not going to be the laughing stock of the park. I don't trust myself on two blades period let alone on ice while bumping into every child and grandma out there. I'm going to kill someone."
Spencer smiled as he handed you your pair of skates. "Actually there have only been a dozen or so reported deaths caused by the direct action of ice skating over the past thirty years. You would be more likely to choke on a piece of food than be carted off the ice. But that doesn't mean there is never any sort of injuries that occur while skating. But we can cross that bridge if we get to it. You would have to try really hard to have something happen in a place this crowded. Bumps and bruises maybe but not hospital visits."
You shook your head slightly as you both sat down and got your skates on. "Oh, you would be surprised what my clumsy feet could do. Let alone my lack of depth perception when it comes to people moving around me on said death blades."
Spencer reached over and placed a hand on yours bringing your eyes up to his. "You don't have to do this if you don't want to."
You placed a hand over his, trapping it between both of yours. "Don't mind me. I'm just being paranoid." And stupid nervous while around you.
With skates on and hands clasped, the two of you made it tentatively onto the ice, making sure to avoid colliding with anyone. Already you could tell this was going to be easier than you thought especially with spencer's hand in yours. Before long you both got a rhythm going, your face sore from smiling so much and your other hand now free to wave about as you pulled away from the side.
Spencer looked at you and grinned, his eyes trailing over your pink nose and rosy cheeks. The smile on your face and the laughter reaching his ears made him wish this moment could last forever.
Suddenly a young boy rushed by, bumping into you making you call out in surprise. But Spencer was quick and grabbed for you as you came swinging closer to him. You both stood still and took a moment to catch your breath. But that moment stretched for a few seconds longer as your eyes met and your smiles turned into soft grins.
You had your hands on his chest, once gripping his coat out of fear of falling. But now you grasped onto him with want as you found yourself pressing closer to him. Spencer's hand on your arm dropped to your waist and pulled you close all while his other hand reached up and touched your cheek. His clove was cold but you sivered for a different reason.
Spencer could see his breath as he looked down at you, small flurries of snow starting to fall and land on your eyelashes. He felt so warm, so at home with you so close that he suddenly became nervous. So, naturally, he started talking very quickly about the first thing he could think of.
"Ice skating dates as far back as 1000 BCE made with animal skins and rib bones but didn't become popular until the mid 19th century when the metal blade was added. E.W. Bushnell of Philadelphia brought in the all steel skate in 1850 leading to better fitting skates and easier manoverability. That then led to the increase in figure skating therefore the important need of a toe pick was presented. The row of metal teeth at the front of the blade helps the wearer make changes in direction, special jumps, and sudden stops when-"
You giggled as you pressed your lips to his, your arms flinging around his neck. You closed your eyes and smiled into the kiss as he shut up and reacted quickly, wrapping his own arms around your back, pulling you closer to him. You both ignored the whistles and happy shouts around you as you lost yourselves in each other's arms. Cold lips became warm and your fogged breath became one but for far too short a time.
Spencer pulled back, kissing the tip of your cold red nose as he smiled down at you. You
"Toe pick," you whispered as you looked up at him full of adoration and happiness.
Spencer blushed and you smiled wider. "I didn't mean to ramble."
You shook your head, struggling your face into his coat, your cheeks sore from smiling so much. "You are cute when you ramble."
Spencer held you close and kissed the top of your head with a smile. "You want to get some hot cocoa now?"
You pulled back with a jerk and nodded vigorously. "Oh yes please."
Spencer chuckled, taking your hand in his as he lead you off the ice. But before he stepped off he didn't slow down in time and nearly tripped. You held onto him resulting in your faces coming close. You smirked as you stole a short but sweet kiss.
"Toe pick," Spencer mumbled under his breath as he followed you off the ice.
It didn't take long for the rest of the BAU team to catch on that "toe pick" meant something to the two of you. Especially when after a case, Morgan spied you in a hall with Spencer where he was rambling about something that frustrated him. Gently you reached up and pecked his lips, holding his face as you whispered "toe pick". Immediately the young genius relaxed, placing his head on your shoulder as you spoke softly to him. Morgan nodded and left the two of you alone pride filling his chest at his buddy's luck in having you there for him. And it all started with ice skating.
Sorry, not sorry it's long! kisses ;)
