Incandescently Happy

You shot up, breathing heavily as sweat soaked your shirt through. You tossed your feet over the side of the bed, placing your elbows on your knees as you held your head in your hands, regulating your breathing. Nothing good ever comes from having nightmares, especially when it keeps reacquiring. Taking and letting out a shaky breath, you stood and left your room as quietly as you could, not wanting to disturb your sleeping husband.

After grabbing a glass of your favorite drink and splashing your face with cold water, you headed back to your room. Quitely, you shut the door behind you then tiptoed to the bed. Slowly you slid back under the sheets, trying your hardest not to move the bed. With a relieved breath, you rested your head back on your pillow and closed your eyes, relaxing. But not two seconds later you opened your eyes in surprise as you felt arms wrap around your middle, pressing your back against a warm chest, a kiss placed at the back of your neck.

"Are you alright?" Spencer's voice rasped as he continued to kiss your neck, moving to your shoulder then up and behind your ear.

A small smile pulled at your lips as you relaxed even more against him, letting the feel of his skin on yours warm you.

"I am now."

He hummed against your skin as he pressed his face against the crook of your neck, resting his face as his hair tickled your neck. You shivered but loved the feeling. The two of you didn't move for several moments as a slightly uncomfortable silence fell. You made nonsense shapes on his arms and hands as he held you while your mind ran.

Your nightmares usually consist of three things; Spencer getting hurt, your inability to have a child, and you getting taken by the FBI for a rule you didn't know you broke. Why those three kept popping up, you didn't know, but what you did know was that it was starting to get old and affect you emotionally. Tonight you dreamt your baby was taken by CS after Spencer was injured in a case accident you caused. You weren't ready to delve into how that truly made you feel.

"Where are you?" Spencer whispered against your skin.

You blinked, coming back to reality. "I'm back," you whispered, "go back to sleep, dear."

You felt Spencer pull back, his breath hitting your skin as he spoke. "You had another nightmare, didn't you?"

You sighed, turning in his arms so you were face to face. you placed your hands on his bare chest and looked anywhere but in his sad looking eyes.

"Yes. No use in lying."

"Do you want to talk about it?" He reached up a hand from your waist to stroke your hair.

You shook your head. "No, I'd rather not." You snuggled deeper into the covers, moving so you could rest your head on his chest. "Just hold me. Please."

Without a word, Spencer moved so you were comfortable, his hand now running through your hair. You reached up and kissed his jaw in a silent thank you. You closed your eyes and tried to sleep, hoping the gentle rhythm of his heartbeat would lull you into a better dream. But as it turned out, not fifteen minutes later and neither one of you were asleep.

Spener kissed the top of your head. "That bad huh?"

You sighed, pushing up on his chest so you could look at him. You practically laid on him, both his hands moving to your lower back. You reached up and stroked some of his hair from his face. The light from the street lamps outside casting slight shadows about the room but his kind eyes shone brightly making you feel better already.

Keeping your voice down, you spoke, "Bad enough to wake me. Again. But I don't want you to worry. It's just all in my head."

He made circles on your lower back, making your middle warm as you melted into him. "You are my wife, (Y/n), of course, I'm going to worry about you." He turned his head and kissed the closest thing to him which happened to be your hand. "I want you to know you can tell me anything. I would take it from you if I could."

You smiled slightly as you moved to rest your hand on his chest and your chin atop that as your other hand reached up to run through his hair.

"I know you would. And I love that about you but I just don't want to relive it again."

Spencer nodded. "Then let me help you de-stress before bed so you don't get them anymore."

You cocked a brow. "And how do you plan on doing that, doctor?"

Chuckling, Spencer sat up a bit, forcing you to straddle him. "They say yoga is good for centering your mind."

You made a passively impressed face. "Mmm. Yoga."

Spencer smirked. "Hot baths are known to help relax your muscles and your brain is the largest muscle in your body."

You giggled, leaning forward onto him. "I do love how romantic that sounds."

His smile grew. "You could listen to some calming classical music. Take a walk around a park, being out in nature helps clear the mind."

Your own smile grew but you weren't paying attention to what he was saying. "That sounds nice."

He continued, his hands running up and down your sides absentmindedly, "Exercise works too. There are also those little videos of cute animals you tend to like."

"Spence," you whispered, stroking his cheek.

"I could make sure you watch one before-"

You scooted up closer to him, your face directly in front of him, your mouth teasingly close to his. "Spencer," you whispered again, your hands snaking up his shoulders and down his back, "I already have my nightmare repellent."

"What is it?"

You giggled. "You, you oblivious genius." You kissed him, lightly, almost pleadingly but it didn't last long as you pulled away. "But I need to make sure you do a few things for me."

Spencer stole a kiss, smiling. "Anything."

You smiled. "It's not much. Maybe have you hold me."

He wrapped his arms around you, his fingers slightly tickling your sides for a moment, making you laugh. "Like this?"

You nodded. "And maybe  you can tell me you love me."

Spencer leaned his head forward so you were cheek to cheek as he whispered in your ear, his breath tickling your neck, giving you chills instead of making you laugh. "I love you with every fiber of my being, (Y/n) Reid." He then pulled away, searching your eyes. "Like that?"

Your skin was littered with goose bumps and your heart was hammering. "Yes," you whispered.

He looked up at you through his lashes, his hair falling into his face a bit. "And?"

You reached up and brushed his hair back, raking your fingers through his hair, stopping at his neck, holding him. "I want you to kiss me goodnight."

With a swift but gentle movement, you soon found yourself under your husband, his slight frame a bent over you. His hands were placed on the bed on either side of our head, his legs straddling your middle. The sheet had fallen to your legs and his slightly long hair had fallen into his face. Your breath quickened as you watched him gently lower himself onto you, his lips brushing your shoulder. He kissed up your neck to your cheek, then moved to your lips, but just hovered there making you move your face up to close the gap. But his lips were far away, but only just.

"Like this?" He whispered before dropping his lips atop yours.

You sighed into his kiss, reaching up to run your hands up his body and back into his hair. Your lips moved in sync as your breathing quickened. But he wasn't hungry with his caresses, he was gentle and savored each kiss. He kissed your cheeks, your nose, your forehead, eyelids, and ears. You pulled him to you kissing him until you needed air only to pull away and have him laying on your chest. His head laid under your chin as you kept your hand in his hair, the repetition of running your fingers through his soft locks grounding you to the here and now.

YOu both let out a collective sigh, smiles growing on your lips. You kissed the top of his head and nodded. "Yes. Just like that. Now I don't think I'll have a nightmare for a week."

Spencer let out a small laugh. "At this rate, I have a few things in mind to keep them away longer."

You laughed, your face reddening. "There is always next time."

Spencer sat up so he could look at you. "I'm sorry about your nightmares. I will do better to help keep them away."

Tears of love and happiness sprung to our eyes as you smiled, nodding. "You do a wonderful job already. I just forget to ask for help sometimes." You gave him a lingering peck on the lips. "I love you so much, Spencer."

"I love you too (Y/n)."

"Thank you," you whispered as he wiped some escaped tears from your cheeks.

"Anything for you." He smiled before moving just enough where it was now you who was in his arms. You didn't protest.

It didn't take long for the both of you to fall asleep. And it didn't take long for a habit to form and for your nightmares to disappear for good.
