Eye of the Beholder
You pressed your back against the wall, your gun locked and loaded as you closed your eyes and started counting to fifty. Luke and Emily were going around the back, the plan they had concocted not exactly settled with your mind but it wasn't like there was anything else you guys could do to flush the mob out.
There were back up teams and everything at every ground-floor exit of the building. Being as large as it was, each BAU member was given a squad to lead. Yours was designated at the east side exit, set to move in once Emily and her team cleared a path. But something didn't feel right.
Your earpiece buzzed with activity as you listened to the others get into position. Garcia pipped up, her sweet voice installing a bit more calm in your heart but not enough to put you at ease.
"Ok guys, the bomb has been set and the unsubs are bolting. You have five minutes at most, I couldn't tap into the reader before he set it. I sent the map info to you as well as a countdown clock. Good luck."
Emily called for a go and you headed in, your mind imagining the other teams closing in on the three unsubs and their "Regenerative Bomb." These crazies thought they were sent to help everyone go on to their next life. And to do that they wanted to blow up large populated areas at a time. But what they didn't know was that the BAU had already evacuated this part of town and this was going to be their first and last attempt at achieving their goal.
It was Spencer that figured out the Unsubs' plan and it was you who suggested that there may have been more than one person involved. Unfortunately, you knew one of the Unsubs, he was an old classmate of yours and you remembered he had a terrible crush on you.
Spencer pleaded with you to stay behind, worried that if the old classmate saw you that it might mess with the plan, throw in a variable they wouldn't be able to compensate for. But you were confident nothing would happen, especially since you were going in with a mask. While everyone else was going to be cornering the Unsubs, you were going to be deactivating the bomb.
But what you didn't know was that you were about to walk right into a trap.
Your breathing filled your ears as you and your team drew closer to the bomb. Everything was silent save for a sudden spurt of gunshots and the call of an Unsub down.
"Which one?" You asked.
"Davison," came Luke's reply, his voice heavy with anger. "He got one of my men."
"Stay where you are, Alvez. We are closing in." Rossi chimed in.
You weaved in and out of the office cubicles, utterly annoyed with the fact they were created like a maze from hell. Your men were too spread out for your taste and you didn't like not knowing where you were going. Then again, you didn' like where you were going, to begin with.
"Any sign of them on your end, Reid?" Emily asked
"Not yet. But I wouldn't hold my breath. (Y/n), what about you?"
You shook your head then remembered to speak. "Nope, not a thing." You turned to your team leader and he showed you how close you were to the bomb and you winced. "Ah but I'm close to the bomb. We have ten minutes. You think you can find the other two before then? I don't want to accidentally set this thing off with you guys in the building."
There were a few more shots and JJ finally spoke. "I got Travis. That leaves,"
"Gavin," you breathed under your breath as you came to a halting stop.
You had turned a corner coming to a wide-open space only to find the last Unsub standing there as if waiting for a train. Turning he sneered at you, his long hair covering his dirty face and obscuring his wild dark eyes.
"Oh (Y/n), it's so good to see you again."
"(Y/N)!" Spencer called, the sounds of his team holding him back echoing in your ears.
The others were speaking over each other but you weren't paying attention. Instead, you were looking at the small bomb strapped to Gavin's legs, their detonation lights blinking. Your eyes flickered back up to his face, your eyes hardening.
"What is going on?"
Gavin chuckled darkly. "I'm only trying to save everyone. But it seems you are just a bit too smart for your own good."
You shook your head, not understanding. "Blowing up everyone won't save them. Besides we evacuated everyone, there isn't anyone for you to kill."
Gavin took a few steps forward, the blinking on his leg bombs quickening with every step before slowing down as he stopped. He bent down and patted one of them like a good little dog.
"You are wrong about that. There's you." Gavin opened his arms wide and slowly turned in a circle. "You and your whole team."
You reached your hand out and stopped your team from advancing. You took a step closer, recognizing the way he was acting like back in high school, coy but unsure at the same time. You realized your hands and pocked your handgun, showing him you meant no harm.
"There isn't a large bomb in the middle of the building is there?"
"BINGO! We have a winner!"
You blinked slowly, trying to ignore the others in your ear. "So what are you doing? You knew I was going to be here. How?"
Gavin shook his head, stepping closer, the blinking going off again. "You ask too many questions. You did that in high school too. Even when you didn't voice them out loud, you always were asking with your eyes," he pointed to his own bloodshot ones, "And it got. VERY. ANNOYING!" He took another step closer.
Your heart raced as you eyed his distance and took note of where the other's said they were. Spencer's voice went off in your ear calling your name frantically as he nearly begged you to tell him where you were and to get out of there. But you ignored him, no matter how much you wished to give him what he wanted.
"You want to know why it was annoying?"
Before you could answer, Gavin bounded forward, his legs beeping now as the lights flashed. "Because you were never asking the RIGHT questions. EVER!"
You took a shaky breath, looking at him with a steady glare. "And what questions were those?"
He was nearly two feet away from you, the smell of crazy coming off of him in waves. "You never asked questions about me."
You shook your head, knowing that to not be true. "I did ask you questions Gavin, lots of them."
He pointed at you, making you swallow hard. "NO NO NO! About me! Where I was from, who I liked to listen to, what my favorite food was, how my weekend was, and WHO I LIKED!"
You signaled your men to leave. You knew what was going to happen next and you didn't want anyone around. You felt them hesitate but finally, your team slowly backed out. Garcia's voice went wild as she tried to pinpoint where you were but you figured Gavin had ridged some sort of scrambler leaving the team in the dark as to where you were exactly. It scared you seeing the genius tech kid from high school staring at you with blatant murder in his eyes.
"Now you and all your friends will be regenerated. And this time you will be mine."
Just as you were about to take action before Gavin did anything rash, Spencer's voice made you pause. He sounded strained as he breathed hard.
"You have to get out of there (Y/n)! Please, you don't have to take him on your own. Luke and Rossi are on their way. They are closer. Please, just keep him distracted-"
"I'm sorry Spencer, but he's done waiting."
And with that you leapt forward but slightly to his left, landing on the ground in a slide, your hand whipping out a knife and stabbing him in the foot. You knew if you ran he would run after you and therefore detonate the bombs. If he ran at you he would detonate the bombs. So you made sure he was going to stay put.
Gavin let out a roar, his hands reaching down to hover over his pinned foot. You pulled out your gun and sat up, turned, and lifted your gun, pointing it at his head. He turned to look at you, his face red with pain and anger. You called into your comms unit.
"I sure hope all of you are at a safe distance. This is gonna pack a punch."
You lowered your gun to Gavin's legs, smirking at the fear in his eyes. He was going to get what he wanted but you weren't about to let him do it himself. You pulled the trigger and closed your eyes, the last thing you remember was the sound of Spencer yelling out your name as a wave of heat and pain consumed your body.

Spencer Reid sat with his head in his hands as the rest of the BAU crew either stood around or sat with him in the waiting room of the hospital. Everyone was fine save for still being covered in dirt and dust from the explosion. No one else had gotten hurt from the blast, Garcia saw your plan and had directed everyone away.
But it was Spencer who found you first, your limp, bloody, hand peeking out from under a slab of fallen ceiling. Without waiting for the others, he lifted it and tossed it aside, ignoring the blood everywhere as he picked you up and rushed you out of the building.
As it turned out, the only reason the whole area wasn't decimated was because you had shot the bomb and while it wasn't active. From what your team had seen before you sent them away and told the rest of the BAU, every time Gavin moved he activated the bombs, making them live.
Now, due to your heroic efforts, you were in surgery in hopes of stopping the bleeding and saving your life. Spencer wasn't sure if he wanted to be mad at you or proud of you. Either way, he was itching to see you. It wasn't until he heard your hits to stop Gavin while talking to him that Spencer suddenly realized he a bit more than a friend should. All that mattered to him was to see you safe and happy. Someday safe and happy with him. But right now he'd take breathing and alive in the hospital if that was what he could get.
A nurse walked in, nodding to the group. "Miss (L/n) is awake. One or two at a time please, she's still in a bit of shock."
The team immediately looked to Spencer. Rossi patted the boy on the back, nodding after the nurse. "Go on. We didn't all go deaf from your screams for nothing."
Spencer nodded, numbly flowing the nurse to see you. Spencer hated hospitals, they reminded him too much of his complicated life and how often you always seemed to find yourself here.
The nurse nodded to a room at the end of the hallway then turned to go, leaving him in the doorway. Spencer looked in, your resting form painlessly sleeping. Slowly, he entered the somewhat dark room, coming to pull up a chair next to you.
"Hey (Y/n)," Spencer reached out and took your hand, the one not covered in bandages, "it's me, Spencer."
You didn't move save for your chest going up and down with steady breaths as the monitors beeped around you. Spencer rubbed his face as he leaned his elbows on your bed, taking your hand in both of his as he looked down at you.
Your face was nearly completely covered with bandages. The left side lay bare as the right side was wrapped. Your right shoulder and arm, down to your hand were also bandaged. He could see from where he sat that you would be in considerable amounts of pain had you not been asleep.
Spencer let out a breath and pressed your hand to his forehead. "You should have stayed home."
"Yes, but she would have found a way to get there despite that." A voice sounded at the doorway.
Glancing over, Spencer sighed as Emily walked in. "Is she going to be alright?"
Emily patted Spencer's shoulder as she looked down at you. "She will be terribly scarred. She sustained most of her injuries from the initial blast. A few broken bones from the debris but nothing that won't mend."
Emily sat down at the side of your bed, nodding to you as she looked to Spencer. "She got burned really badly. She won't look the same after she's healed."
Spencer looked to you and back to Emily, his eyes daring her to doubt his resolve as he spoke to her, "It doesn't matter what she looks like, I mean, she's already the most beautiful girl in the world to me."
Emily smiled and nodded before standing up. "Quick and tell her what you want before I let the others come in." She winked and left Spencer alone with you again.
Spencer smiled slightly as he reached up and moved some hair from your face just as you started to stir. His smile grew as you looked over at him with your one good eye, his hand squeezing yours lightly.
"Hey, how are you feeling?"
You blinked a few times, looking around only to look at him again. "Did it work?"
Spencer couldn't help but chuckle a bit, nodding. "Yeah, you got him."
You closed your eye and nodded, squeezing his hand back. "I feel like crap."
"You don't look it though," Spencer whispered as he boldly stood up and placed a soft kiss on your left temple, making your smile as you heard the others coming down the hall.
You gave his hand a squeze and didnt let it go as the others bustled through, Garcia's colorful ansamble attacking you first.
