Calm Doctor

wintersoldat1917-so kindly requested a jealous/protective Reid. And so, a jealous/ protective Reid you shall have! I hope you liked it!

"Is it bad that I really really don't want this one to be the unsub?" You whispered into your earpiece as you watched your very handsome "dinner date" stalk toward you.

Penelope's voice answered back. "Oh, honey. How much do you want to bet he has a cute cat, dotes on his nieces earning him the title of favorite uncle, and kisses his mom on the cheek?"

You smirked, looking down at your dress, smoothing it with your slightly shaking hands as you cleared your throat. "When he's not busy doing yoga, making healthy but delicious protein shakes, and intense gym sessions."

"I am so glad I know what I need to do to impress women." Your eyes flicked to Morgan across the restaurant, his glasses making him look a little ridiculous but you could see his smirk. "I had no idea kissing my mom's cheek meant so much."

"Does anyone else feel slightly uncomfortable?" Came Rossi's voice making you bite back a laugh.

"I do," Spencer replied.

At the sound of his voice, you immediately sought him out but then remembered he was back at the base, not much help out in the field with a crutch for his injured leg. But that didn't stip your lips from forming a small smile.

You were going to reply but Chris Patterson was close enough to catch your eye and smile, a small dimple appearing on his left cheek, his blue eyes gleaming. You smiled back, chiding yourself for the small flip of attraction you felt.

he's under investigation, he's under investigation, he's under investigation

You kept telling yourself over and over until you were forced to greet him. Standing, you reached your hand out, taking his as he stepped closer.

"Chris Patterson?" You smiled.

"(Y/n) (L/n)?" He raised a brow but smiled.

"Someone has to be." You nodded, adding a giggle as you motioned for him to sit across from you. "Thank you for setting this up."

"Thank you for meeting me. I was worried I would have come off a little too forward." He sat, looking very comfortable and slightly shy.

You raised a shoulder, trying to keep to the script as best you could. "I don't know much of anything exciting happens when you play things safe."

Something glinted in Chris's eyes, making you shiver. But it was gone as soon as it appeared. He picked up his water glass and raised as if to give a toast, his dimple returning.

"Truer words have never been spoken."

It surprised you how easily the two of you fell into conversation. Dinner came and went but it wasn't until halfway through your dessert did you remember you were actually on the job and not really on a real date. But you didn't want to lose what progress you were making so when Chris suggested going to go see a late movie, you readily accepted, ignoring the various warning tones in your ear. But the voice of the local sheriff told you to stay with him, Hotch reluctantly agreeing. So you complied, ignoring the tiny pinch of anxiety you felt when you took his hand to lead you out of the restaurant.

~~~~~
Spencer wanted to pull his hair out. Watching you walk hand in hand with the Unsub out of the restaurant sent chills down his spine, making his neck hurt. He gripped the back of Penelope's chair, making her look back at the nervous doctor.
"She's going to be alright. I've looked up everything on him. The worst thing he has ever done is missed his mom's birthday one year because he was on a mission trip to Africa with his power bar buddies." She nearly sounded defensive.
Spencer kept his eyes on the screen as he replied. "And does none of that sound extremely suspicious to you?"
"So what he has a better track record that more than half the people on this planet and has more love in his pinky finger than a loyal puppy doesn't make him a bad guy."
Spencer looked down at Penelope and shook his head slightly. "No, it gives him the perfect makings of being a bad guy."
Penelope stared at him a moment then a smile slowly started to break over her face, a giggle escaping her lips. "Oh my God, Reid, you're jealous."
Spencer reeled back, blinking. "No, no I'm not. What do I have to be jealous of? Not being a murderous psychopath?"
Penelope rolled her eyes good-naturedly before turning back to the screen where you were getting into the Unsub's car, your voice coming over the comms with light banter and laughter. She pointed to the screen, leaning her elbow on her desk as she snickered. They drove off and Morgon's voice came over saying he was in his car following them. The screen changed as Penelope changed from one street security camera to another.
"You want to be in Chris's place. You want to be the one to make her laugh and smile."
Spencer opened his mouth to retort back but something on one of the camera screens caught his attention. He had been listening to everything you had been saying during the "date" looking out for your safety phrases, the words that would let everyone know something wasn't quite right.
"Now how do you feel about winter time? I'm not a fan because it's apparently too cold for society to accept eating ice cream"
Penelope's smile faltered. Two safety phrases in one sentence. But just as Spencer heard the sentence, only Morgan's car was on the screen; the one you were in with the possible unsub was gone. Spencer leaned closer, noticing that Penelope saw it too, her fingers clicking away as the screen flashed from camera view to camera view, your car nowhere to be seen.
"Holy Moses, that isn't good," Penelope whispered as she reached over to call for Hotch and the local PD Sheriff. "Hotch, we may have a problem."
Spencer sat back in his chair and let out a breath, running his hands through his hair as he closed his eyes. The image of you in your nice black dress, your hair all up in a beautiful twist, jewelry sparkling but not at all taking away from the beauty of your dazzling smile and glittering eyes.
Spencer had a feeling something was off about that guy the moment he came on screen. Thanks to this particular high-end restaurant they had security cameras near the front desk and by the kitchens. You were smart and picked a table in the back with the cameras as well as giving Rossi, Morgan, and JJ the pick of the liter on where to sit. Spencer felt better with them around you but now he'd chase after the car himself if he could.
JJ and Rossi came rushing into the large office, Hotch, and the county PD Sheriff close behind. Spencer dropped his hand from his face and shared a strained smile with Rossi and JJ, noting their apologetic looks.
"So are we in agreeance that this "Chris Patterson" is our guy?" Rossi looked around the group.
The PD Sheriff, who's that Spencer decided to forget, stepped forward, one his hand on his hip as he pointed to the screen. "No, we are not going to assume anything until we have solid proof."
Morgan's voice sounded, stopping anyone from protesting. "Officer Matthews, I think this is pretty good proof. I take it her comms are down seeing how I'm getting static on my end."
Penelope blanched, looking exactly as Spencer felt. The comms cracked with static but was clearly still in range. The room fell quiet as Penelope worked hard to pinpoint where Chris was taking you. Spencer leaned forward, mumbling helpful ideas that didn't get them closer to you than they were already.
Suddenly your voice came through, making the crew jump. Spencer sat up, his eyes flicking to the screen. Penelope squeaked, turning up your voice.
"...no, no, no. That's not what I meant. I-I really did enjoy my time with you."
You sounded worried, frightened even. Spencer gripped onto his crutch, his knuckles going white.
"Look, Chris, how about you tell me what it was you wanted me to say. I'd be glad to do whatever it is you want."
The group collectively cringed. Penelope visibly deflated. Rossi rubbed his face. Hotch closed his eyes. JJ sat down heavily. Morgan cursed and Spencer sat staring at the screen. But you weren't done. You let out a yelp, a cry of pain making the comms crackle and squeak.
"You know I'm not going anywhere. I love the sea breeze. I promise not to move."
"Which beach, PG?" Morgan seethed through his teeth though they all knew to whom his anger was directed to.
Penelope's fingers flew as she worked her magic to pinpoint which beach you were on. JJ moved over to stand next to Spencer, placing a comforting hand on his shoulder. But the young Doctor didn't acknowledge her, his eyes never leaving the screens, even when your voice returned. It was quickly becoming frustrating that they couldn't hear what the unsub was saying.
"I-I don't know, Chris. I don't know. I have never seen you before now. I promise."
Suddenly the room filled with your screams, crackling in and out as the speakers struggled to handle the amplitude. Spencer shot to his feet, limping quite quickly over to the Sheriff. Pointing to the screens, Spencer spoke in a strong but moderate tone, his jaw clenched and his eyes filled with fire.
"You think that's proof enough? Get her out of there."
Sheriff Davis, as it said on his badge, didn't look at Spencer as Davis just stood there, his hands on his hips and his eyes narrowed at the screens showing Morgan's car racing to go find you.
 "Calm down, son, your girlfriend will be fine,"  he waved his hand and nodded, "your friend is clearly on his way to get her, despite my lack of approval."
Hotch looked at the Sheriff with near disbelief as Rossi rolled his eyes and JJ let out a huff of air. Penelope hesitated her typing but quickly returned to giving Morgan directions. Spencer was beside himself with frustration and worry, the sounds of your pleading for the unsub to stop whatever it was he was doing to you filling the room.
Spencer shoved the Sheriff's shoulder causing Davis to glare at him, Hotch reaching forward to stop Spencer from doing anything worse. Rossi shook his head slightly though he too looked like he wanted to deck the seemingly heartless PD officer.
"I am calm and it's Doctor Reid, I'm not your son. I'd like to make her my girlfriend if you'd come to your senses and get her out of there alive! Morgan can't take him on his own and we are too far away to get there in time. Dispatch your men or-"
Davis hardened his eyes and stepped forward, making Spencer fall back.
"Or what, Dr. Reid?"
The room was quiet save for your crying over the comms, your breath coming out in hiccups as you tried to regain your composure. Whatever just happened all but broke you and the only thing Spencer could think of was holding you in his arms and wiping away your tears.
Spencer dropped his anger and all but begged with the Sheriff, his eyes pleading as he stood there, expectantly, saying nothing.
After what felt like long agonizing hours, Sheriff Davis let out a breath, practically rolled his eyes and brought his walkie-talkie to his lips, telling his crew to go to the beach that Penelope tearfully said to him. Spencer closed his eyes and sank into his chair, his head falling into his hand as he bit back the sob that had threatened to break free the moment you first started crying out in pain.
~~~~~~

(A Thousand Years came on when I finished so I HAD to add this part...feel free to imagine this with that song in the background :) )

You shook as you sat on the edge of the ambulance, your face tight with dried tears and your hair wet with ocean water. Your hands were numb and your feet ached but you were alive. You held a scratchy yellow blanket around your shoulders as your teary-eyed gaze searched the faces as they milled about, doing their jobs. Morgan stood next to you, brotherly protection radiating off of him in powerful waves that amplified if someone got too close to you. But as much as you appreciated him being the one who saved you from the Unsub, he wasn't the one you wanted to be by you right now.

Suddenly three black cars drove up but before the first car even came to a stop, a passenger door opened and Spencer came stumbling out. Your eyes widened as your heart took off, your chin trembling as new tears started to fall. You got up and ran to him, his arms already open to receive you, his crutch falling to the ground with an ignored "thunck".

The two of you stumbled as you ran into his chest, your body shaking with new sobs as his arms wrapped around you, holding you together while he spoke your name into your hair. His warmth was enough to stop your shivering and the feel of his body against yours was enough to convince you that you were safe, truly safe from ever having to experience all that you had ever again.

Spencer pressed kisses on your head, down your temple and to the back of your neck and shoulder as he buried his face in your hair. He didn't cry, he just kept telling you how proud of you he was, how much he wished he was there to stop him, how sorry he was that he couldn't get to you any sooner.

How much he loved you.

You weren't sure how long you stood there but it wasn't long enough. Your shivering returned and a nurse showed up asking you to return to the ambulance, that you needed to see a doctor. Spencer pulled back but only just, his arms never leaving your body as you held on to him, your head on his chest.

"I'm a doctor. She will be safe with me."

You smiled weakly into his chest, your tears slowing and your heart calming down. "Lier."

"Well, she didn't specify what kind of doctor."

You pulled back to look up at Spencer, your red, puffy eyes meeting kind and gentle brown ones. "Don't leave me," you whispered.

"Not in a thousand years," he replied just as quietly before leaning down and placing a very gentle but very sweet kiss onto your trembling lips.

I'll update when I can. Sorry loves.
