9. He Is Getting Married.

Leo and Cade chatted as they got to the 7th floor.

"I need to tell her to check on the patients," Cade said.

"I'll tell her," Leo replied.

"No, it's my job." Cade grinned.

"I get, but I want to help you."

"Are you sure you just wanna help?"

"Positive," Leo said as he touched Cade's cheeks.

"You're never serious. See you later. Oh, and don't forget to collect the CT scan results for the ataxia patient from Dr. Asher."

"Got it. Bye."

They parted ways. Cade headed to his office while Leo headed to Mia's office.

He knocked.

"Come in please," Mia replied.

He opened the door.

"Morning." She greeted.

"Good morning. Trust you had a nice night?"

"I did, You?"

"Same." He then sat and continued.

"How was your lunch with Ben yesterday?"

"He...wasn't around so I just ate with Cecelia instead."

"Why wasn't he around?"

"Cece said he was in a meeting. I think the meeting was impromptu."

"Oh, I see. Hmmm... Are you free this weekend?"

"I don't know yet. Why?"

"Just want us to go on an outing, do a lil bit shopping, and....... see a movie if possible."

Mia smiled and folded her arms.
"Don't you think you're a little bit too fast?"

"Fast? With?"

"I mean.. we barely know each other. I only know your name."

"I know, same here. We'd get to know each other better during the outing because.... that's the purpose."

"I'll let you know if I'll be free then," Mia replied.

"Okay. You're on duty this morning?" He asked, looking straight into her eyeballs.

"Yes. 8 am to 4 pm."

"Have you checked on your patients?"

"Not yet. I wanted to ask. How many doctors are in this Department?"

"We are just 6, including you. The rest are nurses."

"Okay."

"He glanced at her. The blue, armless gown she wore exposed her soft, glowing skin."

"You shouldn't be wearing that to the office."

Mia looked at herself

"Why?"

"It's too attractive."

"It's only attractive to those who don't mind their businesses.

"You're no fun at all," Leo said, laughing.

"I don't want to lose my job."

Leo nodded. "I like that."

"I want to go and check on Ruby."

"Oh.. who's she?"

"The 14year old girl I diagnosed with Malaria yesterday. I heard she was later rushed back here last night and she was admitted."

"That's serious. Okay."

Mia nodded.

A knock was heard on her door.

"Who could that be?" Leo questioned.

"I don't know. Maybe a patient."

"I'll take my leave. See you later and don't forget the stuff we discussed."

Leo opened the door and bumped into Ben.

"Oh, Dr. Ben... What are you looking for in a new Doctor's office this early?" Leo asked.

"Is there a reason I shouldn't be here?"

"Just asking."

"It's not your business. If you'd excuse us." Ben scoffed.

Leo eyed him mischievously and walked out. Ben closed the door and sat.

"Mia, I'm so sorry about yesterday. I was suddenly called for a meeting and I couldn't call you because I didn't have your number."

"It's fine, Dr. Ben. Cece told me about it so I ate with her instead."

"I feel so relieved. How are you?"

"I'm fine. I was about going to check on my patients."

"I see. Umm...How can I make it up to you?"

"Oh, no need. It's really okay. It wasn't intentional."

"Are you sure? How about today's lunch?"

"Don't worry, I have to meet someone. I'm really fine. It's okay." Mia lied.

"If you say so, Mia."

Ben stood up and left the office disappointedly.

"Is this Torac filled with only male Doctors?? Urgh!!!! I'm tired."

She thought as she stood up and wore her coat.

She headed to Ward 6, where Ruby was admitted.

She knocked and entered.
Ruby was sleeping soundly on the hospital bed while a man sat on the chair beside the bed. They had a striking resemblance.

"Good morning sir. I'm Dr. Mia, Ruby's attending Physician."

"Good morning, Dr. Mia."

Mia brought out a thermometer from her pocket and placed it under Ruby's arms, carefully so as not to wake her up.

"36.6, her temperature is back to normal," Mia said, after removing the thermometer.

The man heaved a long sigh. He beamed from ear to ear.

"Thanks, Doctor."

"You're welcome, sir. The nurses would be here soon to give her her medications."

"Alright, Ma."

Mia left the ward and returned to her Office. A young woman of about her age followed her inside.

She wore a red, flashy top with a black skirt that didn't reach half of her knees.
Her face was sweaty with fading makeup. Her fingernails, toenails, and eyelashes were fixed.

"You don't look sick... what are you here for?" Mia asked.

"Good morning ma. I'm sorry to enter your office like this. I came to see someone but I have no idea where his office is...So I decided to ask you." The lady muttered.

Oh, she looks more responsible than I thought. Not all that doesn't glitter, isn't gold. Mia thought

"Who's the person ma?" Mia asked.

"Dr. Cade."

"Oh. His office is the first office on the right-wing of this floor. He is the head of the Neurology Department so you'll see his name on his door."

"Thanks so much, doctor." The lady replied and bowed.

"You're welcome. Why do you want to see him if I may ask?"

"He's my fiance and we haven't even talked about our wedding!"

"Oh."

Thanks for reading 🥺❤️
