Chapter 5

I got up and stretched, before going into the jungle behind me, taking my flashlight.

"Now, where's some fruit?" I asked myself.

'Who knows what could be out here? I'd better keep my voice down.' I thought, walking along.

I stepped farther into the jungle until I found a mango tree.

"Yea!" I whispered, excited.

I grabbed as many as I could fit in my arms and started to walk out of the jungle when a twig snapped.

"Who's there?" I asked, kinda freaked out.

I continued to walk off, but it felt like something was watching me.

Another twig snapped.

I full on sprinted out into the clearing, hoping to outrun my pursuer.

I huffed on the beach, the mango's still in my hand. I smiled as I felt the feeling of being watched went away.

I put the fruit onto the sandy beach and grinned.

"Ok, let's get to work." I told myself.

I walked over to some low hanging palm leaves, the thin strip kind, and I grabbed a whole bunch of them. I smiled at my luck and took the bundle of leaves.

I started to weave a basket out of palm leaves, happily humming as I did.

The sound of the waves crashing was kinda peaceful. I was relaxed.

Then the images of the night 3 days ago flashed through my mind. I shivered and some tears slipped down my face.

"Mom, I guess I won't have to see Dad now." I said, out loud.

Then I broke down.

'I miss you mom. I love you the most.' I thought, still crying.

By the time the moon was high in the sky, I had finished weaving the first basket and had stopped my mental breakdown.

I walked down the beach to find a coconut tree and a peach tree, just on the edge of the beach.

I picked a bunch of fruit from the trees and carried it back to put in the baskets.

I placed all of the fruit into a basket and started working on another one when the feeling of being watched came back.

"Who's there!" I demanded, just loud enough. I grabbed the nearest stick and pointed it at the darkness.

No response.

I shrugged and continued to work on the next basket.

Faintly, the sound the sound of a radio clicking could be heard deep within the jungle.

I have decided that every other time, I will make a picture.
