Chapter 2 ✅
(The girl from the paper)
I was sitting in the cemetery, "Mom and Dad, I wish you were still alive. I am sure you would be cutting out this newspaper article about me. It says, 'Sandra, a fifteen-year-old girl, has won a full scholarship to Yomite University in the fall. She has been recognized for her academic accomplishments several times throughout high school. She has advanced in her studies many times and, this spring, will graduate from high school at age 15." I flip to the other side of the paper, "Sandra has overcome many obstacles in her young life. She is the daughter of the late Ken and Cathy Hopkins. They were professors at Yosemite University and were driving home after a facility meeting when a drunk driver hit their car. Sandra was only seven years old when they passed. Her mother was seven and half months pregnant with twins. The twins survived. She and her siblings lived with her elderly grandparents. Her grandmother died in February 2020 from COVID-19, and her grandfather a year later from natural health issues. She has for the past year been part of the foster program.
Even with all these tragedies, she kept applying herself to school. She has advanced several grades. She won two national spelling bee championships in 2017 and 2018. She was part of her school debate team this past year. She won a state championship for her school. She was second in the state archery championships in her junior and senior years. She was part of the girls' basketball team that went to a state where her Sophomore and Junior years came in second place and Senior year won state championships. She spent time with her younger sisters, Nora and Cora.
They are currently wards of the state since her two uncles on the paternity side had no interest in raising them. She plans to apply for emancipation when she turns sixteen on April 16, 2022, and raise her siblings as she studies for her degree. She has even been gifted a use of a two bedroom apartment while at university.
Congratulations Sondra Hopkins.'
What do you think of that mom and dad?
She heard a sound and turned. She saw two wolves standing there. One looked like the drawing on the paper, and the other was a dark black wolf." Her eyes got large. I stood up and backed up against my parents' gravestones. I glanced at the article in my hands, "are one of you the wolves that killed the doctor?" They both growled. I look around for anything I can use to defend myself. I see nothing. They started to walk toward me, and I heard a voice in my head, and it was weird. My voice deepened and did not sound like me." but commanded, "STOP. SIT YOUR ASSES DOWN." Their eyes got large, and they sat down. Then they tilted their heads and showed me their necks. I then had my voice back and whispered, "You understood me?"
They nodded their heads. "How did you understand me? Unless..." my voice fades. I grab my phone. I start tapping. I then read what it says. "Were you a human?" They both nod their heads. "Are you a werewolf?" They tilt their heads and look at each other in puzzlement. "You did not know you werewolves?" They look at me in confusion. I call, "Hi. I am at the cemetery. I was sharing with Mom, Dad, Grandma, and Grandad about my scholarship. It got me missing my house. I wanted to call you to say I think I will go there. Maybe stay the night."
He replied, "It's okay, but I needed you to be home by noon tomorrow. The social worker is coming over tomorrow for her monthly visit at 2:00 p.m."
"Thank you. I will be home by then. Tell Nora and Kora goodnight and if they want me to bring anything from the house to call me in the morning. Bye."
I turn to them, "Well, hunters are looking for you guys. I need you two to stay beside me. Act like dogs." Then, I guide them to my grandparents' house by walking toward the back of the cemetery and through the woods. It was about twenty minutes later that we arrived at their place. We walk into their backyard. "Go wait at the back door while I let myself in through the front."
I walk around the large house. I see my uncles getting out of their car. I sigh, "What do you two want? You're not welcome here."
"Now, Candy, is that the way to greet your uncles?"
"My name is NOT Candy. You stopped being my uncle that day at Mom and Dad's funeral when you denied us. Thankfully, Mom's parents were there for us. Now, what do you want, Kyle?"
"That is UNCLE KYLE."
I glared at him. "This is private property, and you are not wanted here."
"Too bad, girly. We saw the newspaper article where your grandparents passed away, and you are looking to be emancipated and request guardianship of your sisters. We looked into your grandparents. We know they were millionaires and had this large house. We decided to move here and become your permanent guardians."
"You just want us so you can spend their money. Now get off my land, Kyle."
"It doesn't work that way brat." He takes a step toward me with his hand raised. The black wolf comes out and growls at him.
He steps back, "is that the killer wolf from the papers?"
I look at Kyle, "This is Knight. He and his brother are Tamaskan dogs. Knight is black, and Caspian is light grey. The wolf in the newspaper is a silver wolf. Know your facts. " I turn and look at Knight. "Come here, boy, and sit." I tap my leg and do a hand signal. They came over and sat by me but continued to growl at my uncles.
Kevin looked at me. "The first thing we will do is get rid of those mutts. Then, we will send you and your sisters to boarding schools."
My uncles did not see me reach into my pocket, bring out my phone, and click video. "Why are you here on my land after I asked you to leave?"
Kevin replied, "How did you get eligible for college? My brother and I decided we were going to take custody of you. We will control your estate. If you don't follow our rules, we will ensure your sisters pay the price."
"What do you mean pay the price?"
Kyle grins evilly at me, "Oh, that is easy. We will work to turn them against you. We will ensure the school we send them to will deny you all visitation. We will make sure they will hate you and each other."
"You're doing this just to access my grandparents' estate and money?" I shout. "Get off my property because no way in hell am I going to let you do that." I turn back and storm to the house. I grab the key from my pocket. I turn to my uncle, "Get back into the car before I sic Knight and Caspian on you. You got to the count of five." I paused, "ONE," Caspian growls, "TWO," they go running toward the car, "THREE," they open up the car doors, "FOUR, " the doors slam shut, and here the car starts, "FIVE," and the car is driving down the driveway. I turn and unlock the door. "Come on, boys." We walk inside the house, and I close the door. Then I turn off the video. I look down at their muddy paw prints, "Once you shift back, you are cleaning that up. That was why I was gonna have you come in the back door."
