Selfridge's Department Store, London
Cora and Rosamund seemed to have transformed into excitable teenage girls, the moment that they set foot in the building. They, like so many others, had fallen under the mystical spell of Selfridge's Department Store. They giggled and smiled in awe and in wonder at the enormous and fantastical store, filled with a shopper's dreams. The aromas of perfume wafted pleasantly around them, as the two Ladies made their way through the bustling crowd.
"Goodness! It has been too long since I've been here!" Rosamund exclaimed gleefully, picking up a bottle of scent and spraying it on her wrist. "Since you've been here! You're the one who lives in London, I'm the one who has to beg Robert to let me use some of my money to buy new clothes! I haven't been shopping at all in ages!" Cora replied rolling her eyes. Rosamund wasn't really listening, she was much too interested in the different perfumes. "Mmm, yes, of course.. Cora, which one do you like best? This one-" she held out her left wrist, which Cora sniffed while nodding approvingly; "or this one?" Rosamund asked, holding out her right wrist, eager for a second opinion.
Cora looked deep in thought, as she debated quite seriously. "I like the second one but the first is more you. It just screams 'Rosamund'. Go with the first one, I think." Rosamund nodded with a grin. Shopping with Cora certainly had some advantages, she didn't know of anyone else who would ever say that a perfume 'just screams 'Rosamund''! Sometimes Cora still sounded like the silly young American her even sillier little brother married all those years ago, well, that's how Rosamund had once felt about their marriage. Now, she was happy for them, and the baby on the way.
"Thank you. I can always count on you to decipher whatever the perfume is yelling."
"My pleasure. I have quite the talent, I must admit."
"Now. Your turn."
"My turn?"
"Yes! We need to find you some new clothes, we can't have you walking about in fashions from nearly thirty years ago once you get bigger...."
Cora suddenly realised what Rosamund was talking about. It was quite stupid to imagine that she wouldn't notice, giving how obvious her pregnancy now was - and Rosamund's sharp eyes. Cora's grin faded. " ...The child would be embarrassed by an unfashionable mother, nevermind Mary and Edith. You don't want to be seen wearing something that resembles Mama's clothes, do you?..." Rosamund continued, oblivious to her companion's discomfort and the fact that Cora was no longer listening. Did she suspect anything? Cora silently queried. No, probably not, Rosamund had no reason to.
Rosamund continued to speak, an endless chain of words, which went entirely unregistered by Cora. It wasn't until her shopping partner walked away that she realised that Rosamund had actually still been speaking. She scurried after her, struggling to catch up with Rosamund's quick steps, as she followed the firey Marcel Waves of her sister in law, all the way to the maternity wear section of the shop. Cora then stood helplessly as Rosamund leafed through the dresses, choosing numerous ones for her to try (without consulting her of course). Cora didn't really mind, she liked shopping with Rosamund, it was like the old days when they were two young newly married women, shopping to their heart's content.
Sometimes, Cora missed the old days. Things were less complicated then, somehow. Well, she had just handed over all her money and her love to a man who didn't love her, but it still seemed less complicated and confusing than her current situation. But, she was beginning to fall back in love with Robert, just a little. She smiled as she thought of him. She remembered when she first made that handsome face smile. It was their first dance, and Robert had looked so sad all night. When they waltzed around the room he had brightened a little, but didn't actually smile his beautiful heartwarming smile, until she daringly kissed him on the cheek. She wouldn't have done so if she hadn't been part of a very unladylike bet against her friend, Angela, which stated that she would not kiss the first Earl she danced with on the cheek. Naturally Cora's competitive streak had outrun properity, but it was worth it, just to see his smile (and the two pounds that she received from Angela later on).
She was pulled unceremoniously out of her reverie, when Rosamund shoved her into a changing room and handed her a gigantic pile of dresses that she had chosen. Oh yes, the joys of shopping with Rosamund!

Crawley House
Isobel glanced in the mirror one more time before heading downstairs. She had not even reached the foot, when the doorbell rang. As expected, it was Dr Clarkson. He looked nervous, but she smiled encouragingly at him, which seemed to boost his confidence. A little anyway, he was still incredibly jittery. As was she, she was mildly surprised to realise. Although it had not been very long since her engagement to Lord Merton, Isobel felt a strange nervousness about going to dinner with a man. It was something young people did, not old bats like her. But, maybe it was love that made her feel young again, young enough to dress up for a romantic dinner.
Well, she asumd that it was romantic, Dr Clarkson hadn't exactly specified as to what grounds the dinner was based upon. She highly doubted that he had invited her to a businesslike dinner to talk about the local hospital funds. He had been so uncomfortable and nervous when he knocked on the door and asked her to come, almost tripping over his words as he spoke. She would never forget the look of absolute delight that graced his handsome and loving facial features, when she said yes. She was excited and felt like a girl again, going out with her first beau. She was quite happy to note her own delight at the prospect of dinner with Dr Clarkson. For she realised that the nervousness which they both felt was in fact delight at being with the person they loved.
" Shall we go?" She asked. Dr Clarkson took her arm and smiled. " Indeed" and he led her to the car. She sat in the back, while he drove, and they set off to dinner.

Rose and Atticus's house, New York City
Rose was watering plants in the garden, humming a tune as she did so. Suddenly, she felt her husband's strong arms wrap her in a hug. "Atticus!" She giggled, "I thought you were still at work". He smiled, carefully tucking one of her stay curls back in place. "I came home early, to see my beautiful wife." "Well now you see her..." she whispered and kissed him. " Indeed I do darling, and she is even more beautiful than when I last saw her." Rose giggled.
They kissed again, and Rose relaxed, flopping against his chest. He held her tightly and kissed her hair. "My dearest Rose.." he muttered. She stared at the sky, watching the fluffy white clouds float along the horizon. She thought back to her encounter with Mr Ross the previous day. She had no idea how she was going to get the cake out of that dress, but Atticus had been thinking about finding a maid to come in every few days to clean and do laundry (Rose was not very good at either of those things, and he was running out of clean shirts). Would it be awful of her, to keep the soiled dress until the maid came, without making any attempts to clean it?
She turned her thoughts back to Mr Ross. How wonderful it had been to see him again, and even better that he was preforming soon. "Atticus, you know how I was telling you about Mr Ross," She began. Atticus nodded, "He's a club singer, isn't he?" "Yes! And, well I thought you might like to see him preform on Saturday. It has been an awfully long time since we went out, and it would be fun!" Atticus watched his animated and excitable wife with wonder. She was such a beautiful person inside and out. Her enthusiasm for dances was unmatched. "Of course sweetheart! Although you are sure to out dance me." She kissed him and giggled. "I doubt it. But I am ever so pleased! Golly! I must find a dress to wear, maybe I'll go shopping..." and with that his darling wife skipped back towards their house, blowing him a kiss as she disappeared around the door.

Grantham House, London
Cora had returned from her shopping spree with a large collection of outfits that she didn't want or need. Rosamund had gone all out buying practically everything in sight, for Cora and herself. They bought so much, that the remainder was to be sent to Rosamund's later. Cora tried on one of the dresses, and had to admit that it was a lot more comfortable than what she had previously squeezed herself into. But she still felt ridiculous with so many of these outfits.
She sat down and sighed. She thought of Simon. He still expected her to appear at King's Cross Station on the 28th of June. The more she thought about the situation the more unsure she became. Who did she truely love and why? Was her instinct to stay with Robert based on fear of loosing her family and the unknown, or love? Were her feelings for Simon based on love, or just the baby? Despite it all, she didn't regret it. She did want the child, but did feel that life would be a lot easier if Robert was the father and not Simon.
She glanced back at the dresses again and smiled sadly. Well at least she had Rosamund!
Hey hey! So this chapter is complete.
I hope that I'm not boring you people and any suggestions are welcome! !
Also, I have no idea if Selfridge's had a maternity wear section in 1925 and I am too lazy to try and find out. So, there you go.
In other news, I am coming closer to the end of year tests, so I'll be writing less. I'll try and do some midnight writing or something and once I have the holidays they'll be no stopping me.
Thank you and hugs...
Love you all !! ♡♡♡♡♡
