1. Riding
As the sun rose at Downton Abbey Clara road around the grounds to help her head.
(Clara's Outfit)
Clara moved to Downton with her aunt and uncle after her parents passed away from Pneumonia. It took a toll on Clara and she didn't want to move away from Montana, but she had no choice since her Grams was too old to take care of her and her uncle didn't know a thing about raising children. So the only places Clara could be looked after were her Aunt Cora and Uncle Robert in England.
Clara may not have been born as a boy, but she is grateful her father left in his will the money he owned for years went to Clara along with her horse Ginger. Her father Sam left his ranch land to one of his closest friends so their family could grow. Grace was sad when she had to leave her home, but it was for the best.
Clara kept on riding until she saw the sun rising and needed to get back to the house. Or she was going to hear it from Carson or her Aunt Cora.
"Come girl let's head back to the house or we're going to get an earful. Yah!" Clara held the reins tight as they both rode fast to the house. The wind in her hair felt colder than the air back at home but still trying to get used to the place.
Soon Clara heard another set of hooves trotting fast which made her look over to her side to see a man coming over to her side as she thought he was chasing after her.
" Miss hold on!" the man shouts out as Clara hears that loud and clear.
" Whoa girl, whoa." Clara pulls on the reins gently and Ginger slows down carefully. Clara looks over at the man and is astonished at how handsome he is.
"Are you alright miss?" He asked Clara.
" Yes. I'm fine. I was just hurrying back to my home before I got in trouble for not letting them know I left the house for a ride." Clara said as she saw the man was stunned.
" You're an American."
" Is that a problem?"
" No, not at all. I just thought you were in trouble, and had no idea you were not from here. Where are you living?"
" I live in Downton Abbey with my Aunt and Uncle."
" You're Lord and Lady Grantham's niece?"
" You've heard of me?" Clara was surprised to hear someone knew her.
" Just of knowing you came to live there, and my condolences to your parents. I understand how it feels to lose a parent."
" Who did you lose?"
" My Father."
" I'm so sorry. How long ago?"
" Last year."
" Does it get better? I'm sorry for asking it's just..." Clara tried to talk to this man but the conversation felt hard to talk about.
" No it's alight, and to answer your question. The pain never really goes away, but it does it better in the end because you're here now, and is meant for you to keep on living." The man said as Clara started to feel a little better after thinking of his words.
" Thank you. That's very kind of you to tell me that um...you know I never got your name."
" Oh right. I'm Derek Parker."
" Well, it was very nice to meet you Mr. Parker, but I really must be going. Or I'll have another lecture on how to be a lady." Clara starts riding away as she hears Derek's voice.
" Wait, I don't know your name!"
" Clara!" Clara said as she kept on riding back to Downton Abbey.
As minutes passed by Clara finally made it back to the stables to find some of the employees taking care of the horses and the stable boy came over to Clara's side.
" You better hurry, everyone inside has started eating breakfast." The stable boy said as Clara unmounted her horse and let the stable boy take Ginger to her stall.
" Thank you." Clara hurried to the servant's entrance and went in quietly she crept through the hall and quietly went up the stairs but saw Mrs. Hughes coming down. Busted.
" I see you went out riding again Ms. Clara."
" Morning Mrs. Hughes."
" Honestly girl, I don't know how a lady like yourself thinks it's safe for you to go out on your own. What if you have gotten hurt?" Mrs. Hughes asked only because she was just concerned for Clara.
" I would have found a way. I was taught to do that. I do apologize for worrying you Mrs. Hughes, but I can't just switch my life so easily. I was raised on a ranch. I would wake up at dawn, hunt for food when I needed to, practice shooting to protect myself, and I know how to ride a horse. I do have a long way to go when it comes to my education but I do know how to read and write, but when I was working on the ranch it was more about how to learn to survive and protect yourself."
" Well I don't expect you to change yourself completely, but I would like you to be more aware of how much your family worries about you and the staff. They sure took a fancy to you when you first arrived here." Mrs. Huges and Clara laughed a little at Clara's first day at Downtown.
" That day sure was interesting, but I'm happy to have met you all."
" And we are happy you're here as well. Now why don't you go upstairs and I'll tell Anna to draw you a bath."
" Yes, Ma'am." Clara heads upstairs and heads over to her room to get cleaned up from riding.
As Clara made it to her room she looked out the window seeing a beautiful sunrise thinking this day couldn't get any better, but that was not the case.
