Snowdust and Memory

I wander through the wilderness on my way back home

Empty branches reach for me as peacefully I roam

Quietly I sing, but not as once I would have done

For life, I sing, and sleep, and for the victory won

Lately, winter snows float softly down the air

And as it gently goes, I wonder why I care

The silvery tempest knows I chatter as I sing

And onward so it goes, matching with silence my ring

Summer's shining whispers like ages gone and past

And all along I knew that autumn couldn't last

So standing now in snowdust, I wait for the next spring

Winter's sleepy nothings calming my mind's wing

I know daytime comes at the moonlight's end

Yet, though slower now, here I walk again

Knowing this, still I wonder when

Winter's end will be winter's end

I'm older now than I've ever been

And farther, hopefully, from sin

But a child I'll be til then

And a child I'll be til then
