I know to some degree

The pain in his soul

I know to some degree

The pain that he knows

It rips a tear in me

Rends in my heart a hole

His body has life

His spirit is dead

His mind's strife

Fills him with dread

And he wants to die

Living on lead

My spirit screams,

"Save him, my God!

Rescue him

From his demons

And bring to life

This life against you."

But I know

That he deserves it

No more than I.

I deserve death

Rather than life.

But his material life

Is so full of death

I'd give my life

To give him his

"Lord, my Lord,

I want him to live

I kills me he isn't

And I try to praise you through it

Try to glorify you."

It's so hard to walk around

Friends with a dead man

Hand-in-hand with a ghost

Or, more rightly, a corpse

I drag him to church

I drag him to the Word

But you know what the dead can't do?

Listen.

His body has life

His spirit is dead

His mind's strife

Fills him with dread

And he wants to die

Living on lead

It destroys me

That he

Suffers so greatly

"Destroy me, Lord!

If that's what it takes.

Because I know I can't save him.

Only you

Only you.

But it kills me to see

The way he

Drowns in the air

Cannot breathe

The life-giving streams

Of the Word's

Blood, cannot see

That he's

Missing the point,

That he's

Lost, caught up

In the currents of this world

And forsaking

Your sweet grace.

Lord, I pray,

Give him grace.

I know that's selfish of me

To ask You to pardon

Any single wretched sinner,

But it was selfish of me

To ask you to forgive

A sinner such as I!

Lord, is it selfish of me

To want him to have life?

To want him to be free of sin

And give up this life of lead he leads?

Bring him to You, I plead!

Pull him to You.

Because as much as he deserves his pain

It rips a tear in me

Rends in my heart a hole

And I don't know

Any remedy for him

Other than

Your salvation."
