Chapter 3
Laura was reflecting on her day in class and the people in her class while on her way to The Racer's Ridge
Well I didn't expect Aleks and Finnegan to be there, "HotRod" (A/N: that is Rodney's nickname ever since the friendly standoff with Finnegan occured) seems ok I guess, Sean is alright to be around... Fumihiro is er uhh cute and seemed to like my joke well enough yay! And as for the project I feel like a clean sweep will be hard but doable, the key to everything is situational balance as opposed to total balance, or designing everything so that any weakness isn't shown due to the rules like a short sprint race or a peak hp dyno graph so that we don't have to think about tire endurance or crazy high hp coming on really early and consequently hurting performance due to added complexity and therefore potential breaking points introduced to the system.
As she went up the mountain she was greeted by a eerily familiar sight of a red NA miata following a Datsun/Nissan 260Z, a GC8 STi, a 06 STi, a VW MK7 Golf R, an Audi RS5, a BMW M2 coupe, a Porsche 944, a Porsche 911 Turbo S, a Hyundai Genesis Coupe, a Ford Fox body Mustang, a Chevrolet Camaro Z28, and finally her brother's Focus RS all headed up to The Racer's Ridge. When she got there a very familiar white Integra and a mysterious red FD3S RX-7 greeting the group at the parking lot of The Racer's Ridge and as the group exited their cars Laura and Lindsey had recognized each other,
"Hello I'm Lindsey, your guide/instructor for the roads Mount Hemmingway has to offer"
"And I'm Nino your guide for the Highways here that are home to some of the fastest cars in the nation"
"Lindsey?! It has been a while!"
"Laura?! I didn't know you had enrolled in the school!"
After a short while of everyone getting acquainted with each other/catching up the group headed into the Racer's Ridge, a Modern and classy top notch Hotel with its claim to fame being the large observatory room equipped with telescopes and a vantage point of the whole touge (despite only being able to see ¾ of the downhill it could see the rest above the room) as well as being very spacious and large despite the fact that it is built/dug directly into the mountain side. As the group went into the amphitheater/media room that the Hotel had Fumihiro had spotted a lot of food in the Buffet area and had promptly asked Lindsey about it had had received a solid it's for later as a response. And when they got to the amphitheater/media center they were greeted by a giant map of both the Touge and the Highway projected onto the gigantic big screen.
Lindsey had said, "ok this is the course and there are popular race sections on this mountain with different designations" and she had pointed to the first quarter of the down hill "this is the downhill course A" and she had continued to point them out by quarter, "this is the uphill Course A" as she had pointed out the first quarter of the uphill, "now the whole course is very intensive and can completely fry things like your brakes and tires and can cause your car to overheat and there have been reports of oil pressure falling so low and into oil pressure ranges that would be like water (the consistency) due to heat soak and this rivals Pikes Peak in terms of difficulty, to put it shortly this is the US version of the Nurburgring with no safety features whatsoever, now over to you Nino"
"Thanks Lindsey this is the Expressway and the main attraction to this is the length and this spans from California all the way to Colorado and has 3 Kanjo sen type of courses spaced out in increments of 3 miles and the entire highway is basically for top speed runs and the 3 Kanjo sen type lines are more for oval/sprint runs. The most important rule is that you can opt out if you want, no one is forcing you to race. Ok here is a common meeting point it is the parking lot with a 7-eleven and a Taco bell and Pizza hut. Ok now let us show you how to race there"
As the students all filed out to their cars Lindsey was handing out racing helmets equipped with radios. Lindsey asked Nino, "who do you think will be the fastest ones here?" to which Nino had replied, "I don't know until we are on the courses."
...
The train of cars lead by Lindsey and Nino were now at the top of the mountain and turned around, The RS5, the M2, the 911 Turbo S, the Genesis Coupe, the Foxbody Mustang, and the Camaro Z28 had immediately taken the front thanks to all the power they had on the longest straight on the entire mountain: a flat quarter mile stretch of road. As they had reached the first corner many cars had miscalculated the braking and turn in points for the right hander and the 911 Turbo S had somehow spun out despite TCS (traction control system) on and being AWD, however the 911 hadn't hit anything. As the first 5 student cars miscalculated Fumihiro, Laura, Chris, Finnegan, and Aleksandr all had charged in with little to no braking (with Fumihiro drifting to overtake everyone from the outside) and were soon on the Integra and FD3S's tails
Lindsey had radioed over to the 911 driver, "John just run the course at a normal pace if you aren't hurt". The FD3S was starting to pull away from the Integra due to the obvious difference in power.
Lindsey
OK so you want to play like that Nino? Well 2 can play the game!
Lindsey had reached over and pressed a button on the Integra's Dashboard.

Lindsey
You said that you use 550 hp for mountain passes? Well how's this 550 hp of my own. Bringing the boost up from 350 hp and specially ordering suspension components so the Integra can handle the 550 hp sent to just the front wheels let's see how well everyone can keep up...

All of a sudden the Integra had accelerated in an instant leaving everyone in the dust including the FD3S. when a hairpin came up Fumihiro had downshifted to 1 gear lower than usual and drifted, taking advantage of the torque generated by the lower gear and then had then proceeded to stick the Miata's nose to the inside of Nino's FD3S and had successfully forced Nino to the outside and cleanly taking second place. Laura had given chase was applying immense amounts of pressure on Nino
Nino
So you want to get ahead that badly eh? Well I'll Give this one to you and observe from the back
Suddenly the FD3S had put on the hazard lights and had let Laura, Finnegan, Aleksandr, and Chris by. Laura had caught up to Fumihiro and Lindsey by the time a 90 degree (rally notes: L3) left hand corner while Finn, Aleks, and Chris caught up on a S curve. As they approached the 2 consecutive opposite hairpins by The Racer's Ridge Fumihiro and Laura had both tried passing Lindsey from either side
Lindsey
SH*T SH*T SH*T a 3 wide entry here has never ended well... the first time all 3 cars crashed, the second time I hadn't slipped off the "record line" but the other 2 cars did and almost spun out, and it's too late to do anything now except hope for the best.
As the 3 charged into the 2 hairpins Fumihiro had not drifted and attempted to give the 2 FWD cars as much room as possible because the corner really punishes FWD cars. Miraculously none of them slid off their line or crashed as they had now entered the "straight". After that point all 3 cars had constantly swapped positions at different places in the course, with Fumihiro taking advantage of the decreased strain on his front tires and accelerate away while the 2 FWD cars scrabble for traction. Laura catches up by the time the 5 consecutive corkscrews come up due to being slightly more experienced with how to deal with that section of the course, however Lindsey and Fumihiro both overtake her due to their cars being setup to respond precisely without any over or understeer as opposed to Laura setting up the car to lift off oversteer as aggressively as she could without placing way too much strain on the tires. Lindsey does hold onto first for the "true straight" and for a hairpin, after that she gives up to conserve tire strength. While the 3 were battling for first only 2 cars were able to get within observation range, Nino in the red FD3S and Aleks in the blue GC8 STi
Nino
Wow the skill of the Civic and the Miata are beyond what I expected, this is just pure art! And while I only got to race a Japanese racer in a 350Z at Hakone only once (A/N: JL, yoohoo!) he was a D*MN fast racer and I think that those 2 can easily beat him given just a little bit more experience in wheel to wheel racing like the upcoming clash of the classics. I still have the RX-3 and maybe I can get a EP71 Starlet for them.
Aleks
Their emotions are affecting their racing and normally emotions can cloud your judgement and lead to bad racing or at worse crashing, but somehow they are going at a faster pace than all of us by taking advantage of their emotions? They must be skilled to not let emotions negatively affect their racing...
FlashBack
Aleks in his black Blobeye (04-05 Imprezas) STi chasing a EVO 8 7 years ago
Aleks
I must win against this EVO!
The EVO continues to run away and placing more ground between it and the Blobeye
Aleks
ARRGH how is that evo faster?!
As Aleks gets angrier he increases his race pace and his driving starts to get extremely rough, finally ending with him spinning out and flipping and cut his forehead on the glass and other debris.
END of Flashback
The 6 cars (Fumihiro, Laura, Finnegan, Aleks, Chris, and Nino. The rest of them were significantly slower than them and Lindsey can't stand going to the Highway) exit the touge and start heading towards the meet up location for the Highway.
