Infomation for the Next Chapter

The next chapter mentions ancient Greek (specifically Athens) wedding traditions. To help everyone better understand the terms, I have defined them here beforehand.

Proaulia:this is the day before the marriage. The bride gathers with her mother, female relatives, and female friends to make offerings to the goddesses Artemis, Athena, and Aphrodite.

Gamos:the actual marriage. It is a celebration that involves taking the bride from her father's house to her groom's house where there is a big feast. Sometimes the feast is held in the groom's house. The actual marriage is only consecrated and considered legal once the bride and groom begin living together.

Epaulia: the day after the marriage. Relatives of the bride and groom bring gifts to the couple that typically reference the bride's new role as a wife.

Hope that helps!
