Split in two

Dovewing sighed. The storm had finally worn out. They were rebuilding the warrior cat den, and, she had recently told Bumblestripe she wasn't ready for him yet. But to make things worse, Bramblestar had made the warrior den cats her, Bumblestripe, Berrynose, Brackenfur, and her sister, Ivypool. She lifted a branch to cover the hole in the top.

"Wow, this den is a mess!" Berrynose exclaimed. "Good thing you covered it up, or else we would be sleeping in the rain, cold, and snow! That makes me wonder, what would the clans be like if there was no rain? We would totally..." He rambled on and on while taking out sodden moss. Ivypool flattened her ears. "Quiet mousebrain.." She muttered. Brakenfur chuckled. "If Sorreltail were here..." He suddenly stopped. "She's watching in Starclan, probably laughing her head off."

Bumblestripe clenched his teeth on the bracken for walls. "I'm sorry for your loss," he meowed sadly.

The next few moments were silent. Even Berrynose had even stopped talking, which was a miracle sent from Starclan. Thanks guys, Dovewing thought. This is a one in a lifetime moment.

Finally, the den was finished. They parted from each other to eat. Dovewing ran to the fresh-kill pile. She plucked out a mouse, right when Bumblestripe came over. "Hey..." He said awkwardly. "Hi.." She looked at her paws. Then she looked at him. "I'm sorry about what I said way earlier. I'm just not feeling the best right now," she mewed. Bumblestripe nodded. "Feel better, and uh... Rethink your decision. Please."

He walked away and started chatting with his sister, Briarlight. Ivypool sneaked up on her. "Hey!" She yowled in her ear. Dovewing jumped. "W-what?" She asked, startled. Ivypool rolled her eyes. "Clearly, he still likes you!" Her sister exclaimed. Dovewing said,"Quiet down!"

But Ivypool kept going. "You guys would have the cutest kits together!" She squealed. "He's padding for you."

Dovewing sighed. "I know, it's just...just that I don't feel comfortable yet."

Night started to fall as they finished their meals. Dovewing yawned. She padded into the freshly made warrior den and lay in her nest. Cats came in, one by one, getting ready to sleep. Dovewing waited, and waited, and waited, which felt like forever until all the cats fell asleep. The she got up quietly, and hid in the bushes so the guards couldn't see her, and dashed to the border they shared with Shadowclan. "Tigerheart?" She hissed through her teeth.

"I'm here," said the sturdy brown tom who came out of the bushes. "Good to see you again," he purred as they brushed flanks. Dovewing's heart started beating faster. "How's Thunderclan doing?" He asked. "Fine!" She said. "Thunderclan is strong, and ready for an invasion, we aren't weak after the storm ya know," she joked.

"I see you've broken up with that bumble," Tigerheart said smugly, clearly happy. Dovewing growled. "Don't make fun of him!" She defended. "He's innocent and sweet. I rejected him for you're sake!"

Tigerheart's eyes widened. "When did you get defensive about him?" He asked. Dovewing sighed. "This feels wrong. I'm from Thunderclan, and you're from Shadowclan! This is breaking the code!"

Tigerheart rolled his eyes playfully. "Code, shmode, love is stronger than anything. It makes you break rules because it's a powerful feeling."

"But I don't know if this is love! I don't know how I feel about Bumblestripe!"

"Well then, just like me more," he said, intwining his tail with hers. She fidgeted, feeling like throwing up. She stood up. "Race you to that tree!" She said, trying to avert the conversation. They ran, huffing and puffing and smiling with delight, but Tigerheart got there first. "No fair!" She wheezed. "You started before me."

"Did not," He said, grinning mischievously. They took a peaceful walk, but she halted and said, "Is there anyone you are starting to like?"

"Of course. You."

"No, I mean in your clan," she narrowed it down. Tigerheart tilted his head. "Is this a trick question? Because I'm not--"
"Tell me!" Dovewing cried. She had still felt something tugging her to Bumblestripe. She wanted Tigerheart to like someone else for some strange reason....

"Well," Tigerheart sighed. "Shrewfoot is pretty.... But not as much as you are!"

Dovewing almost smiled. She liked this reply. Weird... But she had to keep her act up. "Thanks," she faked grumbled. The moon was high now. "It's better to go back to sleep," she told him. They both said their goodbyes and ran back.

Dovewing once again hid the the bushes to avoid the night guards, then to the warrior's den. She quietly tip-toed into her nest, thinking the next day would be peaceful and serene so no one would suspect anything...

But she was wrong.
