the chirping of the lovebirds
The next day we all went together to the ice rink. That meant Perrie, Zayn, Louis and me. The others were already there. I couldn't describe my anticipation of touching the ice with skates again. When I was younger, I had been going to figure skating lessons for 4 years. From 9 to 13. Then I had to stop. I mean, the 8th grade of high school was tricky, right? Because that was the reason. Because of the classes, I neglected school, and in math I was almost on a five, although I had always been pretty good in that subject. And for the last time I had been ice skating at school. When I was 17, that was really three years ago? I hoped I hadn't gotten out of practice and was eager to show off my little tricks again. Or was it another one of those things Eleanor didn't know anything about? Just like rollerblading? Well, it wasn't like that anymore. I would convince the others again that I liked to try out new things and learned quickly.
Again and again I squinted to the left side, where Perrie and Zayn were strolling around, grinning broadly and holding hands. Could someone really be so in love with each other? So much in love that they postponed a date just because they wanted to go ice skating with their boyfriend - fiancé? Oh no, it was because of the "weather", which I somehow couldn't believe, because the sun was shining between the clouds. In winter. In London! There was more to it than that, wasn't there? Or was Perrie in a bad mood after yesterday's conversation to go to her colleagues? Well, I didn't mind. I loved doing things with Perrie. It was the same with Gemma. But she would not come. Perrie had not invited her. Had she done this just because I almost got along better with Gemma than with her? Oh, how could I have known about an intimate friendship between Eleanor and Perrie?
At that moment, I felt Louis reach out for my hand and squeeze it. I cried out inside. Love was not really my thing. Were you really always tied to your boyfriend? I could hardly know that. I couldn't know what the relationship between Louis and Eleanor was like. But I was sure it was beautiful. Very beautiful.
And we had finally arrived. And to my amazement, only three paparazzos and a few hysterical fans had crossed our path. The ice rink was huge. I assured myself that almost nobody would be there. Because I loved to have the whole area to myself whenever I wanted. Even though all the cars parked in front of the rink and the swimming pool across the street didn't make it seem like it.
I put the heavy box on a stool and took off my ballerinas. I would be wearing Eleanor's skates. I hoped they would fit me. Fortunately they did and I looked at the very feminine skates in white and a touch of royal blue on the toes. Then I quickly tied the laces together and followed the others to the huge ice rink.
The three boys from One Direction sat on the small tribune and discovered us immediately. "We thought it was closed," Harry murmured, and Liam and Niall were in complete agreement, and that's when I realized it too - nobody in sight but the seven of us. "I rented the hall," Zayn said with an affectionate look at Perrie, but she didn't notice him. At first I wondered why he had rented the hall. It wouldn't be that cheap to reserve a public building for yourself. But then it came to my mind - all the fans that would only distract us. Although we just wanted to spend a fun afternoon like all the other ordinary people our age.
Perrie and I were always driving next to each other and talking incessantly while the others were all in a circle, which sometimes looked pretty funny. "So the concert was really only postponed because of the weather, right?" Perrie shrugged, "Maybe." " No." I could see through her smile. "Tell me. We're friends." Perrie grabbed the railing and brought herself to a halt, while I made an elegant turn and stopped right in front of her nose. "Zayn said he was up to something. I don't know more myself, but it must be something big, otherwise he would never put so much effort into it."Oha. And you really don't know anything?" Again her shoulders shrugged, "Nothing at all." The sincere sound of her voice immediately made me believe her.
"Perrie, El!," we suddenly heard someone calling from the other side. In astonishment both of us girls looked at each other, not knowing what was so urgent again. With a shrug of our shoulders we glided to the five boys. "What's up?", I asked and put on a curious facial expression. "As you all know", Zayn replied, "Perrie and I are getting married in eight days" What?! In eight days already?! I almost interrupted him, but recalled myself for the better. "...and therefore", he pulled something out of his jacket pocket "...I wanted to ask all of you if you would like to spend a few more days in Greece with me as a bachelor." Greece?! Seven people?! There was no lack of money. But a really cool idea...
Even Perrie seemed to be surprised. Positively surprised. "When's the flight?" Niall asked. "Tomorrow around 2 pm. And Niall, I'd really advise you to come, because Greek food is the best you'll ever eat", Zayn replied laughing. Gee, I had no idea what Niall and Greek food had to do with each other, but I was still too overwhelmed by the situation to think about it for long. For the first time in my life I was about to fly to Greece! With Perrie! With One Direction. With the craziest mates on Earth. I was really looking forward to it. Actually Zayn wasn't as bad as I had first thought. Actually I even liked him.
But wait... what about Gemma? Did she not come with us? I was about to ask that question, but somehow it didn't fit the topic at all. Everybody was talking about the concerts they had played in Greece and Niall kept asking if there was Nando's there, which I had no idea about. Nando's was a restaurant chain! In Greece I would rather eat something which is not offered here in England. Then I told myself that they had been to Greece so often and knew how everything tasted. Even though I didn't really believe myself. And again and again the question if Gemma would travel with me was coming to my mind... I would just ask Louis when we got home. Maybe he knew that, after all. And I also had to inform Kate about the upcoming wedding and the - I suspected it was hers - honeymoon I was going to have with them. Then my head began to fill with questions about the wedding in eight days; what should I wear? How would I behave? After all, I had never been to a wedding before. Especially not at one of celebrities. But that didn't matter now.
But then worries started to build up inside me. What if the real Eleanor arrived while a strange girl was in Greece with her boyfriend? Then the War of the Roses would begin. We would be home again and a pissed-off Eleanor would stand in the doorway and accuse Louis of being unfaithful. She wouldn't even listen to the genuine story I had to tell. Sure she wouldn't even notice her reflection in front of her. Wouldn't even notice that Louis was blameless. Wouldn't even notice... Wouldn't even notice that I did this for her boyfriend and his band.
