calder. grace calder.
Kate sat in front of her laptop and looked at the screen as if spellbound. No wonder, because a livestream from One Direction was on display. And that was apparently more important to her than saying goodbye to me. Yes, I had decided in favour of Gemma. But I had made it clear to her that I wouldn't pretend to be Eleanor forever. Two weeks max. Nothing more, nothing less. And I would discuss the rest with Gemma herself. But first I had to go to America.
I had already told Kate the whole story, she had actually persuaded me to help. She had even bought me the plane ticket! And all that only for her favourite band, which I thought was really generous of her. I was lucky with the flight - it was today, in the middle of the night. Otherwise I would have had to have waited several more weeks or at least many days, and by then the suspicion would surely have been aroused that Eleanor had been " dissapeared", which I still thought was quite absurd.
I was convinced that she was partying throughout the night, and you only stayed young once.
"Kate?!" I shouted. She couldn't hear me because her headphones were like attached to her, "Ka-ate!", a little louder this time. No sign of life. Shaking my head I went over to her and waved my hand in front of her eyes. My sister shrugged, then she turned to me, twisting her eyes. "What is so important now?", she mumbled. "The flight was scheduled earlier. I'll be leaving now." "Oh...oh, right..." Her mint green eyes got a very soft and caring look. "I wish you all the best. Call me when you get there, okay? And remember, it's gonna be all right.," she murmured. "I do this only for you. Because I know how important they are to you," I tried to cheer her up a bit. "Yeah, I know," she whispered, almost inaudibly, and turned her gaze towards the display. I did the same. "Which one is this Louis?", I asked and stared at one boy after another. "This one," Kate said, touching a brown-haired guy with her index finger, who had a rather high voice.
"Hm, he looks actually quite sweet", it only came from me, because there were others I was more attracted to. "Oh, he is. At least that's all I know of him, but I think he's not too different in real life either." I imagined everything to be so simple. "Well, I hope so... like I said, I'm gonna go now, okay?", I said. "I love you, Gee." I fell into a deep hug with my sister and then came Bobby, our little doggy patted up. I bent down to him and stroked his fur smooth and soft. "I'll miss you", I whispered to him and he made a mournful expression as if he was watching and understanding the whole situation. Then I turned back to Kate and grabbed my suitcase. "Shall I drive you to the airport?" it finally came from her. I just shook my head. "Nah, that's all right. The bus leaves every half hour anyway. You watch your livestream in the meantime, I'll be fine" I said with a smile and left the house. And it was only outside that all my tears broke out, the ones I'd been fighting all along.
I was almost asleep when the pilot suddenly made an announcement through the plane: "Welcome to America!" The people applauded, including me, although I still liked to close my eyes, but then I noticed this view. I was a big city girl. I would feel comfortable here. I stood in line and fetched my hand luggage while I waited to be checked out. It was quite a stress. "Today...1DDay...missed...", I heard a girl whispering behind me. If she only knew why I had "unfortunately" missed it...
I got out of the taxi, gave the money through the rolled down window and looked around somewhat lost. This was the address Gemma had given me. This is where she and the boys would be staying at the moment, waiting for their "Eleanor". As far as I knew, Gemma had told me that Eleanor (i.e. me) had just had a strange phase of partying. Neither of us really knew when the real Eleanor would appear.
I wheeled the suitcase behind me and searched address by address. And finally I had found it. Before I could ring the bell, Gemma opened the door for me and "Hey", she whispered, "I have just arrived myself. Oh God, I had to make sure that you didn't ring the bell, otherwise you would have woken up the boys." "Haha, that's right. But yeah, hey, good to see you", I greeted her quickly and followed her to the third floor of the appartment. At 5:21 in the morning. Where the sun was already shining a bit.
Gemma closed the door behind us aIf you like, you can also sleep here. I will just make myself comfortable on the couch in the living room." "That would be great. Thank you, Gemma.."
Actually, I could have made myself comfortable on the couch, whatever. A bed was better! "Mh, I would suggest going straight to bed, but the sun is already rising. Would you like to rest a bit or should we start straight away to get you ready?," Gemma solemnly announced, with a sad undertone. She pointed me to a chair that stood in front of a table with a mirror set up and gave me a wig.
"I took them from the props. Hopefully I didn't make myself a petty criminal because of that" "You never had to do that... I could have gotten one myself." "Not to worry. I'm still Harry's sister, they're not gonna sue me that fast," Gemma murmured and ripped open my suitcase, "What are you going to do?" I asked, wondering, "Sort it out." "Sort it out?!" "Yes, sort it out."
As I tied my hair into a little bun, I watched Gemma in the mirror as she threw one piece after another into the corner. "So, what do you know about the boys and El?", Gemma then asked me. I knew nothing was going to come out of me now. "Oh, um, actually quite a bit", I just gave up and carefully put the wig on. Gemma laughed. "That did not sound convincing at all. Shall I tell you the most important things?" I nodded.
Gemma's things became whole essays and it was difficult to concentrate on both things at once - putting on the wig perfectly and remembering what Gemma was telling me. I pressed the wig firmly on my head once more - and now it fit. Perfect. I looked at myself in the mirror, while someone kept babbling behind me. I somehow looked ... Different. And that was only because of a different hairstyle. With my hands I stroked over the soft, brown, slightly wavy hair that reached up to my chest. The tips were slightly blond.
"Wow, I can't even recognize myself" I turned around and saw Gemma's impressed look. She let go of my clothes, stood up and walked over to me. She turned the chair over so that she was now looking straight at my face. "I bet if you went out on the street like that, all thirteen year olds would turn around and secretly take pictures of you "If there wasn't that..." She pointed to my clothes. "Yeah? Well, I only got a few things in there," I said, shrugging my shoulders. "Eleanor would never wear something like that. How tall are you?" "1.71, 1.72. Something like that." "Okay, maybe her clothes will fit you. Otherwise, we'll go shopping today", she said, opening the wardrobe to my right. She pulled out a black gym bag and dropped it in front of me. "This is your wardrobe," she said, pointing to the inside of the bag.
I sat down with her on the parquet floor. " This?", I repeated and looked inside. She nodded. I pulled out a few blouses, sleeveless shirts, two boring dresses, one pair of shorts, three jeans, three jumpers, a jacket and underwear and socks. Everything smelled freshly washed. Like roses. I loved the scent of roses. "Maybe it would be best if you changed your clothes already now", Gemma suggested and helped me choose. As it was a cold day, she picked out a black long-sleeved jumper. I was permitted to keep my white jeans on. And then quickly a few bracelets from the practical handbag, which had also been forgotten here.
"I can't thank you enough. What you give me is more than I could ever give back", Gemma said. "It's okay. After all, I've always wanted to go to America", I shouted encouragingly. "Mm... hopefully Eleanor will get in touch with someone. i'm so worried about her" "She'll be fine," I comforted her. "When do we go to the boys' house anyway?" I added, cleverly changing the subject. She would go with me to the boys later - With Eleanor. "Now... hold" She ripped my phone out of my hand. "Hey, what are you doing?!" "You can't take that with you, here, this is Eleanor's iPhone," she explained and pulled a white mobile out of that bag. "I do hope you'll give me mine back later." "Of course. You can use it whenever nobody else sees us. As soon as we close the door behind us here, you can just be yourself."
