two people, two lies
"She did what?!" Louis clenched his hand into a fist when I got back to the others. Perrie was still at the beach, shocked by what she had just done. What was wrong with her? I had known One Direction for four days, Perrie for three, even though I had been on the same wavelength with her. And then this one incident happened. And ever since then, it's been upside down. I could see how sorry she was, but why did she slap me? Why did she slap Eleanor? She knew what everyone thought of her. I had to talk to her. I needed to talk to her. Even if she might freak out over and over again, I just had too many questions to ask her.
Zayn beside me just shook his head. "I don't know what to think of her anymore." "I'll talk to her, okay?" I suggested and changed the hopeful looks between Zayn and Louis. The others had already left, because the whole topic had only annoyed them, there was barely anything else being talked about.
"No you won't," said Louis and stared at me in confusion. You couldn't really care less about me. In fact, I could tell you what Eleanor thought of your relationship. "Louis, I'm an adult, okay?" "Yes, and you still don't know what's going on in her head! She could freak out at any time. You wouldn't want that, would you?" I just shrugged my shoulders and glanced over to Zayn, who was sitting on the floor with his head down. "Are you alright?", I asked him and squatted beside him. " Everything's fine..." I sighed as I remembered that this should have been their honeymoon and that it might even end with them separating. And according to the media I had heard that Perrie had already chosen her dress. And I was really looking forward to the wedding. But then again.... On the other hand, I was also a little bit afraid of it. Because on that day Eleanor would come back and all the trouble around me would start all over again.
At that moment, Louis sat down on Zayn's righthand side so that he was now in the middle. And I couldn't just stand by and watch him suffer. I would break Louis' word and talk to Perrie. I wanted to save her big day. And rebuild the trust.
Without saying a word, I stood up. "What are you doing?" I heard Louis say behind me. Quietly, whispering. But I didn't reply, because then it would only lead to another fight, because Perrie would be soooooo dangerous and all that shit. We just had to be kind to her, to slowly find out what was bothering her and above all the reason why she had done all these things.
I was lucky. Perrie was sitting desperately on the beach, in exactly the same position as Zayn was crouching in front of the resort, wondering what to do next. "Perrie?," I asked cautiously and slowly approached her. But even with these words she turned around in shock. "Oh, it's only you....," she whispered. Relieved. Disappointed. Happy. Sad. One big chaos of emotions. I sat down with her on the sand which was heated by the setting sun.
"I'm sorry." "I know", I just sighed, telling myself that I'm sure it was the case. But from the sound of her voice I could tell that she was telling the truth. At that moment I felt the stinging pain on my cheek that she had caused me earlier. "Why are you here?", suddenly the hoarse voice of Perrie rose. "I want to talk to you." "... about that everyone hates me? "No, I want to help you. I want you to be happy with Zayn again. I want everyone to trust you again," I quickly explained. "Oh," Perrie replied, staring out at the horizon.
"Why did you do it?" I asked and prepared myself for the worst again, but all I got was: "Why did I do what? "Why did you almost suffocate me underwater?" "It wasn't my intention, we were all fooling around, and if Louis could do it, so could I. And you used to be in a dive club, so I just thought you'd be okay for a little while longer." Me? Diving club? No way! "Besides, I was busy thinking about something completely different...." Other thoughts? I would come back to that later. "Hmm, okay. And why did you just... slap me?" The last word made my throat feel sore.
"I just snapped - if you were told everyone hated you, would you react any differently?" I frowned, "Well, I don't hate you." "Ha-ha-ha. Real funny," Perrie murmured depressed, "You of all people should hate me! I almost killed you." " But only almost."
Perrie just wouldn't understand. Was Eleanor a woman who was pissed off at somebody for a long time? Because I wasn't. I always forgave everything right away, unless it was meant to hurt me, physically or mentally. "And how do you feel right now?", I wanted to know and felt like a therapist. "Shit." "Why?" " Silly question. He doesn't want to marry me anymore." "Oh, yeah, he does," I said, "he does." "But...?" "But he wants to know what's up with you." Perrie swallowed, "I cannot tell him that." "Why not?" "He wouldn't want to marry me any more than he already does. "Like I said, he does. He just wants to know what's going on inside you. After all, you're his fiancée. He has the right to know whatever it is that's bothering you."
"It's impossible." "Nothing is impossible." "Zayn would never be able to handle it," Perrie murmured in a depressed voice. "Then, tell me. I mean, you have to at least talk to somebody about it." "Promise you won't tell anyone." "I promise." "Promise you'll forgive me." "Like I said, I already have."
At that moment, Perrie got up, I did the same, so now we were on the same eye level. She nervously played with her neon pink fingernails around her silver necklace pendant. "So, what is it?", I went into it. After all, we didn't have much time.
"I," Perrie said and looked with her grey eyes into mine and the corners of her mouth were hanging down on both sides. I could literally hear her heartbeat. "So.... I..." that's as far as she got, because a tear was running from the corner of her eye at that moment. "Everything's fine," I tried to calm her down, "I'll always stand by you, even if the rest of the world turns against you." Would I really do that? Well, what else was I supposed to say if I had no idea what was going on with Perrie.
"It's all too much for me." "So?" "So what?" "So this can't possibly be everything." And how could a honeymoon be exhausting? Oh, she meant the situation, silly me. Didn't she? "You are hiding something from me," I whispered softly, barely audible. And I also told you something...
Perrie nodded, "Yes... That's what drives me up the wall. The thing that's impossible to tell Zayn just like that to his face." "I guess, you're not in love with him anymore," I guessed, even though that might be another reason for Perrie to freak out, but she remained completely calm. "Of course I'm still in love with him! I'd never had a crush like that before." ... "What else is it?" "I'll give you three guesses..." Perrie muttered, smoothing her summer dress, and the answer came to me. "You're not ...," I couldn't believe it. "Yes, El. I'm pregnant."
My mind went crazy. Perrie was pregnant. With Zayn? Of course, who else! For how long?... As mean as it sounded, the baby would certainly ruin Perrie and Zayn's career, and for all I knew they hadn't thought about having children of their own. And now it had happened. And Perrie couldn't handle it, she was so afraid that Zayn would feel the same way and so she had let out her frustration on me. And probably the baby had been the reason why she had almost killed me underwater by distraction, which is why she was even more depressed now than usual. And she needed me now more than ever. For all I knew.
