louis, the walking question mark
I stripped off my Converse and placed them carefully on the small rug while Louis turned the key. How excited I was already! When I looked up, he was already waiting for me, which I really, I had to be honest, thought was sweet of him. Because all the people I knew would already have walked in without further ado. But he.... he was different. In a positive way. And that also made him somehow sympathetic and created a loving relationship between him and me. Somehow I could already understand Eleanor now why she had chosen exactly him. "Let's go in!", I suggested with a smile. Louis pushed the door open and let me go first.
"Thank you," I said as I walked by and came into the small entrance hall. Shoe racks on the left and right side. Left his shoes, right.... Mine. My shoes ! I looked at them curiously. Peeptoes, high heels, chucks or ballerinas - there was something of each. A dream for every girl. "How long do you want to stand there and stare at your shoes?" Louis asked me and I noticed him waiting behind me, carrying suitcases. "I'm sorry! ", I said quickly and walked up the two stairs. I came into the living room and at the same time into the dining room with open kitchen area. The white corner couch with the two potted plants on the left and right was in the right corner, in front of it was the flat-screen TV with a Wii. In the back left corner was a dining table made of dark wood and on each side were two white chairs upholstered with a purple cushion. Four chairs. For two persons. But it looked a thousand times better like this, with twice as many chairs. Besides, unexpected visitors could always come. And opposite the armchairs there were a few counters with built-in drawers, a fridge and a cooker. And a dishwasher. And a wash basin. On one counter there was a small microwave and on the window sill above it was a little potty in which cress in the shape of a heart was planted, along with all the spices. I put the travel bag down. Gemma had simply left my suitcase at the hotel. For "security reasons". The suitcase had been my only one. Well, she had stuffed everything of my things into Eleanor's travelling bag, even the things she had "sorted out".
I was just about to run up the next, and therefore last, two stairs and explore the rooms when Louis held me by the arm. I was powerless against him and stopped resisting. I turned around and he looked at me with a wrinkled forehead and big eyes. "Where the heck are you going so fast?" he asked me curiously. "I've been on the road for twelve hours and haven't been to the toilet once. I'm only human and have no steel bladder." "Well, then I won't bother you any longer. In the meantime I will start to unpack."No, let's do it together later. I owe you more than enough already. "I don't know. Maybe," I said quickly and was excited about his answer. "Rubbish. You go to the bathroom, I'll unpack a bit." "Do not provoke me like this", I moaned. "Oh, do I?", it came from Louis again and he reminded me a little of my primary school teacher. I giggled. "How ironic, I love it", I calmed down, but that grin never disappeared, while I imagined Louis as an old, grumpy primary school teacher.
We were now sitting on the couch together. It had become dark. Pitch-black. The moon was already high in the sky with the many tiny stars around it, casting a long shadow on the parquet floor, which was given a distinct contrast by the light of the modern wall lamp.
I sat there with my knees bent, holding the iPhone firmly in my hands, and was currently going through Eleanor's entire archives. Not because I wanted to stalk her or anything. No, I just wanted to find out more about her and her boyfriend's band. My boyfriend's band... Well, I certainly wasn't in love with Louis. As sweet and nice as he was, he didn't suit my taste in men. No, that didn't mean he wasn't good-looking, it just meant he didn't belong in my "prey scheme". And there I was always very meticulous. At that moment I received a message. WhatsApp. "Kate", I whispered in the first moment. "Who is Kate?" I heard Louis say next to me. "Oh, nobody important. A classmate from junior high." Since when have you been involved with someone from back then?" I shrugged my shoulders and came very close to slapping myself. How could I have thought that Kate had written to me when it was Eleanor's phone? My smartphone was in my pocket. I hadn't written to my sister yet. How could I? Louis was stuck to me like super glue.
And the message was... From Louis! All the more embarrassing. I opened the chat.
Hi
"Hi," I said to Louis and typed the same thing in the chat.
Long time, no see
"You breathe sarcasm, don't you?", I said with an ironic undertone."You're kidding, right?", Louis asked me at that moment. "Nope." "Really not?!" "Yes."
"I'm not used to you being so incredibly sweet to me" he complained and tried to sound serious, "Aren't I usually?" He shook his head, "I just say what's on my mind. Straightforward and completely honest." The last word reluctantly came out of my mouth, if only he knew about the whole situation here. I feared he was beginning to mistrust me. "I know that, darling. That's why I love you so much.." At that moment I looked over at him. He loved me?! No... He loved Eleanor. But he loved Eleanor the way she was right now. And I could hardly deny it now. And I couldn't say nothing. "I love you too," I just said, trying to avoid a silly laugh. It was the first time I ever said that sentence to a man. And even to a complete stranger for whom I no longer felt friendship. At least that was the current situation.
He leaned over to me and I knew what was coming. Should I avoid it? Should I refuse the kiss, already like this morning? Or should I get up and apologize to go to bed? But I had already thought about it for too long. At that moment it happened.
It was a strange, yet so beautiful and again so strange - in short, indescribable - feeling. It gave me tenderness and love that I had never felt before. Our first kiss. The first kiss with Louis Tomlinson. The singer from One Direction. The boyfriend of Eleanor Calder.
"I'm sleepy," I finally said. "I'm going to bed." "Well, in that case, go and rest. I'm gonna watch TV for a while. Good night," Louis said goodbye and gave me a warm hug. Then I waved to him and disappeared into the bedroom. The bedroom - one double bed, two chests of drawers. Yes, a double bed. But I didn't think that was so strange anymore. Louis had become a friend... my friend.... ? And I had stayed at other friends' houses. Yeah, really. But at parties. And even on the couch sometimes. As a couple.
I lay down on the one half of what I thought was Eleanor's. Because there had been a long brown hair on the pillow, which certainly didn't come from Louis. Or the wig. Speaking of the wig, I was beginning to want to put it down too. Tomorrow. In the shower. I had to take it off then. But where would I hide it during the shower? These were all unanswered questions to be answered in the morning.
So I pulled out my mobile phone. Yes, my mobile phone. A silver Samsung, Kate had written to me three times, why I hadn't written anything, as I had promised her.
Sorry. Was busy.
It's fine. Are you tired?
No... not anymore.
Are you implying something, Gee?
Louis. He kissed me.
And with those words I closed the app, snuggled up in the blanket and tried to fall asleep.
