9. So You Were the Culprit...

A/N: i don't even know if the title makes sense

"It was me."

Techno blinked at the figure calmly. Tommy.

Dream didn't take the news as well as Techno did. "You!" He snarled, stalking towards the young boy.

Tommy quivered but stood up prouder. "It was me. Ranboo is innocent. Release him."

Dream ignored Tommy's last statement. "You burnt Scar's house down."

"Dream, we fixed it!" Scar called, hurrying after Dream.

"He could have died!" Dream snarled.

"He didn't! Dream, calm down!" Phil exclaimed, grabbing Dream by the shoulder. Grian jumped in front of Tommy, opening his wings and shielding the young boy as Phil tried to pry Dream away.

Dream threw Phil off, but Tubbo was already there, holding Tommy's hand. Grian's wings were still opened protectively. Techno had never seen the small avian so determined and protective, and he felt a rush of admiration for Grian.

Dream turned to see the pleading look on Scar's face, the furious look on Grian's and the silent determination on Tubbo's face. "I will let you go for now." Dream hissed as he realized he couldn't win this fight. "But you will be punished for your crimes."

"He just burnt down a house, Dream!" Stress pleaded. "We fixed it in less than a day!"

"Did he just burn down a house?" Dream said. Techno blinked in surprise. Had Tommy done something else?

"He added diorite to Iskall's Omega Tree." Sapnap said.

Iskall shrugged. "I'm fixing it up slowly." He said.

But Dream wasn't listening to reason. "See?!"

"Um..." Techno turned to see Tango, the redstoner. "He also messed up my mob farm. It found it broken when I went home."

"You will be punished for your crimes." Dream insisted. "Make your sides clear now."

Techno watched as Wilbur, Xisuma, and False slid to Tommy's side, joining Phil, Grian, and Tubbo. False would be hard to beat. He thought, remembering the girl's strength. But I haven't decided which side I'm on. Yet.

Sapnap, Bad, and Scar moved to stand behind Dream. Techno, Tango, Impulse and several others were left standing in the middle. Dream scanned the crowd. "Let these be the standings." He declared, then turned away. Techno saw that his hand was strained, holding his sword.

~~~
"Techno, you should join us!" False said, circling around him. "Please! Tommy's your brother, right?"
"That doesn't mean I support him." Techno murmured. False opened her mouth to speak, but Techno cut her off. "Look, False. I'll think about it, ok?"
False nodded and left the pigman to think. Whose side should I really join? Dream's gone a bit crazy, but Tommy... well, he did almost kill Scar, didn't he? But I don't really want to help Dream. He's so crazily protective... I wonder why? No, that's irrelevant. Tommy really does need to learn a lesson from this, but I don't think I need to get involved... no, False will continue to bug me. Ugh. Dream has Sapnap. He doesn't need my help. Tommy certainly can use a PvPer... he has False. Forgot about that. I could help them, I guess, but me and False will surely destroy them... and Tommy needs to learn his lesson.
The door sounded. "False, can I please have a moment to think alone?!" Techno called, exasperated.
"Um, this isn't False." A familiar voice sounded outside the door.
"Phil!" Techno exclaimed. He got up, his fluffy cape falling to his ankles and he opened the door for the old man. "How are you, old man?" Techno asked, gesturing for the avian to sit down.
"Pretty good." Philza hesitated. "Techno, I need to ask you a favor."
Techno wrinkled his nose. "I suppose you're asking me to join your side." He muttered.
"No, actually." Phil said. "I want you to join Dream's side."
Techno tilted his head in confusion. "I thought you were on Tommy's side."
Phil ran a hand through his blond hair. "I am."
"Then-"
"Techno, who do we have on our side?" Philza asked. "Someone who's powerful at PvP, who happens to live with you?"
"False?" Techno asked. "What about her?"
"Techno, between you and False, who's the better fighter?" Phil asked.
"We're equal." Techno said. "Neither is better than the other."
"Now tell me, who, on Dream's side, is as good at PvP as you are?"
Techno stayed silent. He couldn't figure out what Philza was getting at. "I don't understand." He mumbled.
"Answer the question." Phil said tiredly.
"No one." Techno said. "No one is."
"Who could stop you if you got into a rampage?" Phil asked.
"False." Techno replied immediately. He knew that the girl would keep him in track if he ever went on a killing spree, encouraged by the murderous voices in his head.
"And who's side is she on?" Phil asked quietly.
Techno put the pieces together. "You don't want me to join Tommy's side-"
"Because I don't want anyone to get hurt." Philza whispered. "I support Tommy, I know he didn't want to kill Scar. He didn't know Scar was in the house. So far, no one's gotten hurt. But if you and False start fighting Dream... I don't know what will happen."
"You and Dream were considered the two gods, back when we were still in our world. Now, False is added onto this pile. We need to balance the power... and Tommy doesn't know how to use power well... he's young, and much too young for this."
Techno was surprised to see tears glistening in the older man's eyes. "Phil..." He began, but Phil shook his head.
"Join Dream, Techno. I don't know if I can bear it if people get hurt badly." Phil muttered. "I must be growing old... crying all this time." He mumbled.
"You were always old, Phil." Techno joked as he escorted the avian to the door.
Phil smiled. "I'll see you later, Techno."
Techno watched gray wings unfurl from Phil's back. "Bye, Phil." He murmured, almost to himself, as the avian took flight, disappearing into the clouds.
Techno stepped back inside, steps heavy. Flipping open his phone, he dialed a number.
"Hi." Dream's voice rang through the phone.
"Hello." Techno replied gruffly. "You know why I'm calling."
Techno could almost see the smile on Dream's face. "I do."
Their voices merged into one as they whispered one line.
"Blood for the Blood God."
