Chapter 22
“So …” Josie said, watching her feet line up with the cracks on the sidewalk. “... a Mikaelson, huh?”
Andrea tried not to show how much it bothered her. “By name, yeah.”
Josie glanced over, arms crossed and studied Andrea’s face. “That sounds resentful.”
“My family members all had different names,” Andrea explained. “Marshall, Kenner, O’Connell … The Mikaelsons are Hope’s family.”
Josie scrunched up her face more. “But you guys grew up together? You have the same family.”
“It’s … complicated,” Andrea sighed. She stared around the park they were in. It was pretty empty, but then again, it was mid-school day and everyone else was inside.
“Oh, trust me.” Josie laughed loudly. “I know all about complicated.”
Andrea shook her head. “Lizzie can’t be nearly as bad as Hope.”
“Are you kidding? Lizzie is Hope.” Josie smirked bitterly. “They’re practically the same person.Although Lizzie would cut your tongue out if she heard you say that.”
Andrea arched an eyebrow. “Cutting tongues out? Maybe she is like Hope …”
Josie laughed again, doubling over and stopping in her tracks. When her laughs died down, she spoke again. “Maybe not.” She could feel the shift to serious. “Lizzie hasn’t murdered anyone - yet.”
Andrea’s smile dropped.
“Sorry,” Josie said quickly. “I didn’t mean to kill the mood.”
“It’s fine.” Andrea turned before Josie could see the pain on her face.
Josie had to hurry to catch up. “We can talk about it, you know. Or we can keep making it awkward anytime it comes up.”
Andrea stopped. It was her turn to study Josie’s face and decide if she could really tell this story. “Okay,” she decided finally.
