10.

This chapter is almost 1000 words shorter than last chapter and there isn't a lot of action in it. I'm sorry.

Mount Justice

September 22, 18:43 EDT

Pietro walked into the hangar to find Wally working on Conner's bike while Conner and M'gann stood by watching with Sphere. He took the granola bar from Wally and started to eat it, ignoring the fellow speedster's complaints.

Kaldur came into the hangar a few minutes later. "I have been meaning to ask. Any problems juggling schoolwork with your responsibilities here?"

Pietro narrowed his eyes at Kaldur as the others answered.

"No."

"Juggling is just one of my many talents. Socket wrench."

"Daily cheerleading practice has presented a challenge. Oh, but my first loyalty is always to the team. This team, not the Bumblebees." M'gann answered, using her telekinesis to hand Wally the wrench.

"Why do you ask?" Pietro pondered.

"Just checking in. Artemis starts school today. Do you think she will have trouble maintaining her loyalties?" Kaldur asked.

It clicked in Pietro's head. Kaldur was looking for a mole. Someone must've tipped him off. But who? And why?

"Nah, she'll manage alright. I mean, how much more hostile and annoying-" Wally got cut off as an explosion broke down one of the cave walls, sending the five of them flying through the hangar air.

Pietro hit the wall harshly. He sat up and began running as water started to fill the room. He heard metallic clanging and looked up, seeing two red androids fly into the hangar. They shot flames and water at him and Wally, melting them into a concrete tower along with Conner.  They encircled Kaldur and M'gann in a fire wall, leaving them there to slowly weaken. Sphere was trapped in one of the cave walls, unable to be freed by herself.

"Can't you vibrate your molecules out of this thing?" Wally hissed to Pietro.

"I'm trying, but for some reason it is not working." Pietro grunted. "I need some wiggle room to get started and I'm sealed in tight here."

"Where are Artemis and Robin?" Conner asked.

"Hopefully getting the Justice League." Pietro sighed. He watched as the two red androids disappeared out of the hangar as the zeta tubes announced the arrival of Robin and Artemis. "Or they could be joining us soon."

"Way to stay optimistic." Wally groaned.

They fell into a momentary silence as they all stopped struggling, looking up at the fire cage that their other two friends were in. "How are you two holding up?"

"We live." Kaldur replied.

A few minutes passed before the red androids returned, heating up the cage more. The male looking one rose the water levels to just under their chins. "Attention Robin. Attention Artemis. You have ten minutes to surrender yourselves or your teammates lives are forfeit."

"Oh, great. This is so not how I wanted to die." Pietro whined, starting to struggle again. "Can't your super strength bust out, Conner?"

"I need wiggle room just like you, Pietro." Conner grumbled. "Otherwise I'd be smashing androids right about now."

"You and me both."

Two gasps were heard and the trio looked over to see Artemis and Robin surface. "Look out!"

Fire balls descended upon them and they ducked back underneath the water, resurfacing next to the trio. "You guys okay?"

"Just peachy." Pietro gave a false grin.

"Forget us. Help M'gann." Conner demanded.

"And Kaldur. He has gills for crying out loud!" Pietro reminded everyone.

Artemis turned to the platform. "Aqualad! Is she-"

"She is unconscious. I fear she...we cannot survive much longer."  He called back.

The fire android shot blasts of flame down at Artemis and Robin, making them go back beneath the surface. Pietro watched as they swam over to the stairs and started to run up them, losing sight of them as they ran out of view. He heard Artemis fire an arrow and suddenly one of Robin's bird a rangs landed next to Wally's head.

"Woah!"

"He almost took off your head." Pietro whistled lowly.

"He hit exactly where he was aiming for." Wally smirked.

"-do you say KF? Doable?" Robin's voice came through the little disk and Pietro's eyes widened.

"Totally doable!" Wally exclaimed.

"Five minutes." The android declared.

"You know, if you had more time." Pietro listened as the duo made their way through the vents. "Med lab. X-ray machine. You'll find a small vacuum tube called a vircator that converts high energy pulses. Reprogram the units microwave conversion from X-ray's to EMPs with a cascading energy vector directed outward."

"A ripple effect. Like dropping a stone in a pond."

"A stone with a ten to the twelfth power wattage, yeah." Wally chuckled. "You'll need to hook it up to the cave's main generator."

"I'll need you three to cause a distraction while we set it up. On my signal."

"You got it."

"Make with the distraction." Robin directed.

"Hey, Red Tomato! Who's your girlfriend, Red Onion?" Wally called over, making Pietro snort.

"Yeah, and by the way, worst death trap ever." Conner joined in.

"We can escape any time we want, you know." Pietro hollered. "Ever heard of vibrating molecules to phase through solid objects? That's kind of my thing."

"And you can't drown a Kryptonian, dumb bots. We don't breathe air." Conner yelled.

"And Miss Martian? I can't believe you're buying her act."

"Yeah, do you know how hot it gets in the caves on Mars?" Pietro asked rhetorically.

"That cage is just making her homesick."

"Duh!"

"Robin, look out!" Pietro looked up at Artemis' cry to see a tidal wave hit the boy wonder down off of the main generator. He watched hopelessly as the youngest was brought before the two red androids in a bubble of water.

"It's all up to Artemis now." Wally whispered. "Great."

Pietro glared at the other speedster. "Have some faith in her, will you? At least she didn't get captured right away, like the rest of us."

Wally glared back but didn't say anything in return.

Pietro stared up at the red androids, wondering if this really was the end for him. He would've spent his last few months away from his sister, fighting against her in public while privately working with her to bring the Justice League down. He would've spent his last few months - no, years - working with a criminal organization, barely getting time with his sister, all in the hopes that they get what they want and would reunite the twins? How was that anyway to live?

Maybe if he just told the Justice League what was happening, they could rescue Wanda from the Light's grasp and maybe they would forgive him. After all, he was just an impressionable young kid doing what he thought he had to do to stay with his sister.

Who was he kidding, they would never understand. The Justice League would lock him and Wanda away, apart from each other, for the rest of their lives and the Light would probably send Cheshire to kill them for betrayal.

There was no way out. He was stuck.

"I surrender. Stop the clock." Pietro looked up to see Artemis approach the reds with her bow out in front of her. He watched as she jumped into the air, leaping off the reds and flipping backwards to fire her bow at the generator. She hit the EMP emitter and the reds powered down, stopping the rising water and putting the fire cave out.

"Kaldur! How's M'gann?" Conner called up.

"And how are you?" Pietro made a point to ask.

"We are both breathing. I believe we will both recover. What of Robin?"

It was a minute before Artemis called out. "He-he's breathing too."

After the other four collected themselves and a machine to cut out the remaining three members, they made their way down to Pietro, Wally, and Conner. Robin looked at them, explaining his line of thinking. "I figured my only shot was to surrender pretend to drown before I actually did. Blacked out though." He shrugged.

Conner looked to M'gann and she grabbed his hand. "I'll be fine."

Wally glared at Artemis. "Will you quit playing with that thing and cut us free already?"

Pietro rolled his eyes. "Hey, she just saved all our lives."

"Besides, its not working, genius. EMPs shut down all machines, remember?" Artemis bit out at Wally.

"All machines present at the time." The team looked up to see Red Tornado fly in to the hangar. "What has occurred?"

"Had a little visit from your family. Splendid people. You should have them over more often." Pietro smirked, wincing when Robin hit him upside the head. "Ow, kidding."

"I was not aware I had relations."

"Where have you been?"

"Monitor duty on the Watchtower. When it became clear cave communications were down, I attempted to investigate, but your zeta tubes were also nonfunctional. I transported to Providence and proceeded here." Red Tornado explained, kneeling down next to the other red androids.

Sphere whirred to life and got out of the wall, speeding up to Conner.

A beam shot out of the machine that Artemis was holding, startling her.

Robin and Wally looked at one another. "The pulse has worn off!"

Pietro watched with wide eyes as  Red Tornado whirled around with red eyes and started up a tornado, spinning the air in the room in such a way that it began to be sucked out of everyone's lungs. Pietro gasped for breath, his vision blurring before he passed out.

When he came back to consciousness he noticed the Justice League was present, checking in on the team and working on freeing the trio from their confides. Pietro looked groggily at his teammates, his head pounding. He listened as Superman helped Artemis off the floor, asking what happened.

"What happened?" She snapped. "The Reds happened! Tornado and his...wait! Where are they?"

"Gone." Robin stated seriously. "All three of them. Gone."

Pietro felt his stomach do quadruple flip. Was he not the only inside source the Light had? Was Tornado also apart of their scheme? If he was, why wouldn't they alert him of this?

What else were they keeping from him?
