"Jobs done. He's finished." I say into my cuff microphone. I smirk at the body on the floor, and walk back to my black car. As I drive off, I loosen my tie, and attach a collar with my badge. I pull into a large grey building. I park and get out, slamming the door behind me and locking it. I straighten my collar and badge and open the door to the building. The lady at the desk is filing her nails again. I smile and nod at her as I walk past, getting no response. I pop into the elevator and close the doors. I press the numbers 2, 7, 1 and 9 and the elevator makes a quick descent. It stops suddenly and the doors slide open. I chuck my hands in my pockets, walking out of the elevator, curving my lip up slightly.
"Welcome, Agent Star." The robotic voice sounds, announcing my arrival. A few people turn to look, the rest continue with work. I walk up to my desk and gather a few files, before walking up to a large blue door and knocking.
"Yep," a familiar voice sounds and I swing open the door wide. "Agent Star, welcome back!" a man with blonde hair is sitting at the end of a long black table. His guard stood beside him, arms crossed.
"Hey, Simon," I say, closing the door behind me and sitting at the other end of the table. "Josh," I nod towards the guard, he nods back. "Another agent has been killed'" I say, leaning back in my chair, grim-faced. Simon sits up and puts his hands in his lap.
"This is getting out of hand. At this rate, the Company will have so little left." He gets out of his chair and walks to a map of the city. "Why would anyone want us dead? All we do is control most of our society and kill anyone who doesn't fit the standards. What's wrong with that?" I glance down at the floor, not agreeing with his statement. "Who's dead?" Simon says, turning his head slightly towards me. I flipped through my files and stopped at a page.
"Agent Freezy..." I say softly. He was a good friend and an even better agent. Dying on the field wasn't like him. Simon sighs, and I see Josh take a deep breath. Him and Freezy were close. He scratches his beard and returns to his original stance. Simon studies the map, with pins and strings marking the agent's deaths throughout the city. I stand up and walk over to him. I raise one eyebrow at the map. "There's no pattern..." I say. Simon nods his head.
"I know. You are dismissed. There is another assignment on your desk waiting for you." He doesn't look away. I bow my head in respect and leave. Once I've closed the door quietly, I sigh a heavy sigh.
"Hey, Star!" A cheery voice calls. I gather myself and look up smiling. A small man with brown hair bounds up to me, following him is an African American male with a smirk on his face.
"Hey Harry, JJ," I say, trying not to show my grief.
"What did the boss say?" JJ says, tilting his head slightly to the right.
"Oh, nothing important, just another assignment." JJ nods and walks off, leaving me and Harry. His voice suddenly gets much quieter.
"Hey, did you hear about Freezy? Shame, huh?" I nod my head in silence. "I heard he was killed..." I snap my head up and look him dead in the eye.
"By who, do you think?" I say monotone. Harry jumps back slightly, looking at me weirdly. I smile at him and laugh, rubbing the back of my neck. "Sorry, still a bit upset." He nods and smiles sympathetically. He walks off and I return to my desk. I sit down, sighing. I pick up the new file left on my desk and flip through it. Just another proposed foreign agent. Easy target. I place the file in my drawer and turn on my computer. A tab of YouTube with cat videos pops up. "Ethan! Have you been on my computer again?" I call out to the cubicles. The redhead pops out of his.
"Maybe..." he calls back, then slowly sinks into his cubicle. I sit back down and close the tab. I sit back on my chair and stare at the ceiling, think about, nothing particular. My mind flips from one thought to another continuously. I soon find myself drifting off, only to be awoken again by Ethan bursting death metal out of his cubicle. I stand up and head to the elevator. Tobi rushes in before the doors close and enters his code. The elevator goes up slowly as cringe-worthy elevator music plays.
"You hear about Freezy?" Tobi says, hands behind his back, rocking back and forth.
"Yep," I say, trying to make little conversation. I just wanted to go home. Tobi shuts up after that and we spend the rest of the elevator trip in silence. The doors open finally and I rush out with no hesitation. I wave bye to the receptionist but she's too busy scrolling facebook. Tobi's far behind and I race out to my car. It has tinted windows, so when I get in, I sigh a heavy sigh of relief. I take off the collar and buckle my seat belt. I drive out of the parking lot and onto the main roads. The radio is on and Fallout Boy comes on. I turn it up louder and sing, cause I'm happy as hell. Two jobs in one day, can't wait for pay day!
