Chapter 26: Are You Ready?
Three Weeks Later
"Calm down. You look great," Fishlegs assures me.
I fiddle with my clasp again, looking myself over in the mirror. There's a fur cape draped over my shoulders, a clean white shirt and black pants underneath. One fur boot is worn on my remaining foot, my prosthetic looking rather shiny.
"You sure? I don't look stupid, do I?" I ask.
"Well, you were never as good-looking as me, but-" Snotlout starts.
Eret elbows him in the gut and he chokes, stopping his sentence. I laugh a little, but it wavers.
"Look, man," Tuffnut says, placing a hand on my shoulder. "This is your big day. If you allow me to say it, you've got a smoking hot babe out there, and she's all ready to be yours forever."
"Besides, after these last three weeks of you two getting comfortable, we're ready for a party," Eret adds.
I gulp, adjusting my collar. "Is it hot in here?"
"Nope. You're just nervous." Tuffnut chuckles.
"Thank you...for summing that up." I roll my eyes.
"Point is, be happy!" Eret says. "Thora's all healed up, Berk is safe, and you're getting married!"
I nod again as my friends usher me out to the Great Hall.
Thora's POV
"Come on out. Don't be shy," Astrid calls to me.
I exhale and send a quick prayer for strength to the gods. I step out from behind the small curtain, unable to stop my hands from their nervous fidgeting. Astrid and Ruffnut gasp.
"Oh, you look awesome," Ruffnut exclaims.
I smile, rolling some of the material between my fingers. The dress is beautiful. It has a long white train, flowing sleeves, and gold embroidery on the front. My hair is done up in soft ringlets, pinned together with little flowers. I'm still wearing my necklace, even if it's magic is gone.
"And now, the final touch!" Astrid declares, producing a lacy white veil from behind her back.
She drapes it over my head, fussing with it. I take a deep breath as she steps back, admiring her work. She giggles and brings her hands to her mouth.
"You look like a goddess," she says.
"Yeah! You totally don't look like you died a few weeks ago," Ruffnut adds.
I spare a small laugh before I turn to look myself over again, my hands shaking.
"Oh gods...this is happening," I murmur.
"You ready to get hitched? Be the wife of a chief?" Astrid asks.
I nod as I pull my hands from my dress and straighten up. "Yes. Let's go."
