Chapter Eight
•• Marinette's POV••
The continuous buzzing of her jacket's pocket was getting annoying. Marinette thought it would most likely be Alya, after all, she needed to fill her in on the date plus what happened with Chat without Adrien's ears around. Reaching into the pocket she pulled out her phone, only to then realise it wasn't hers. Staring back at her was a picture of herself, a picture of Ladybug from about a year ago. She suddenly realised that she left that night without a jacket and that this was not hers. Her heart fluttered, she was wearing Adrien Agreste's jacket.
Adrien's jacket.
Which meant this was Adrien's phone.
She put the phone back into the pocket only to be met with a slight resistance. Moving her hand around to get the phone in she touched something fuzzy. Curiosity won out and she pulled the fuzzy item out the pocket only to scream.
Once her shrieking had died to a minimum and she was sure her parents weren't going to have her placed in an asylum, Marinette said a quick goodnight and made her way into her bedroom. Whether it was a good night though was still a boggle to her.
The date with Adrien, with Chat, had been interesting, and now she could slowly begin to understand why she'd been 'saved'/embarrassed by the leather clad hero.
She had to give it to Adrien, he'd played it well. Even though she was slightly suspicious as to why they were both there at the same restaurant, especially after the interview with Alya was meant to take place in her apartment, she never would have guessed the reason why was because they were the same person.
Adrien Agreste was Chat Noir.
Chat Noir was Adrien Agreste.
The thought still felt foreign to her. How the hell was she supposed to react around him now? Her verbal skills could not support this. She stuttered for Adrien and sassed at Chat Noir, those two things were polar opposite, she couldn't do both, it didn't work.
"Do you want me to speak or can I just go see the others?" Plagg was hovering above her head, and during her mental breakdown she'd forgotten he was there.
"Does he know?"
"I can see the others? Oh, guardian, that's so kind of you."
"Plagg," Marinette slightly raised her voice bringing Tikki out of her current sugar coma to see what was going on. "Does. Adrien. Know?" She pronounced every word sharply at the kwami of destruction.
"Who's hiccup?"
Marinette screamed, placing her own hands over her mouth to muffle the volume and slamming her back into the chaise as she looked up at the ceiling.
"How long Plagg?"
The other kwami's suddenly made their appearance, looking over their guardian with curious eyes. None of them had a clue what this teen was doing.
"I can see why masters are always adults," Longg spoke out the side of his mouth.
Marinette picked up a cushion and launched it at him, only for the kwami to phase through the abundance of material.
"Plagg, I'm going to ask you again and I suggest you give me an answer. How long has Adrien known I'm ..." she looked around her room before whispering in quiet tones, "Ladybug."
"He doesn't -" Plagg was cut off by Tikki tackling him.
"Tell her the truth Plagg, or so help me God, I will create you a new favourite taste of cheese."
Plagg gasped.
"You wouldn't!"
"Just try me, Stinky Sock, I hear cheddar is to die for."
A hiss emitted from Plagg's mouth as he stared at his black polka dotted friend.
"You wouldn't!" He questioned.
"When it comes to hiccup I'll do just ... about ... anything." Each word got progressively more violent and Marinette saw Plagg gulp.
"Fine!" He flew over to Marinette. "Before you go all crazy, he hasn't asked you out because you're his bugaboo, or whatever disturbing name he's given you this week. He likes you too, maybe not the same as Ladybug at the moment, you know because of your verbal incontinence, but the kid genuinely cares about you, a lot."
"A lot?" Marinette questioned.
"A whole lot to the point the denial was making me ready to vomit. Honestly, the day of 'Weredad' I thought we were going to get it sorted."
"Me too," Tikki spoke up.
"Me three," responded Fluff.
Tikki looked at her rabbit friend with frowning eyebrows (if you can call them that).
"Fluff, you weren't even there." Tikki said.
"Time travel, remember. I'm the all seeing eye," Fluff tapped himself on the side of his head causing the others to glare, unsure whether to believe the little basket case or not.
"As much as I'd like to delve into this deeper, Fluff, I need help. What am I going to do? Adrien's going to get home and realise Plagg isn't with him, then what?"
The kwami's looked between themselves and Marinette, she had a point. Adrien was going to go crazy. With the way Shadowmoth has been launching attacks recently, it was impossible to leave the kwami's alone for a minute. They even needed extra help most of the time ... the thought trailed off and Marinette's eyes widened. She'd got it. If he wanted to play, then she'd play too. The guy had tricked her and embarrassed her, she was allowed a little payback.
"Ladybug is going on a little trip." Marinette stated, standing up to her full five foot two inch height.
"Oh, are we going to Disney World? It's on my bucket list." Fluff began to jump around the room bouncing from the lamp to the computer to the bed.
"Sorry Fluff, not you this time." Marinette pulled out her phone and called Alya.
"Hey Mare, can you believe tonight? There's more I need to tell you too."
"Really?" Marinette rolled her eyes as she moved up to her terrace.
"Yeah, Chat was on one. Not sure if he'd inhaled cat nip or something, but man he was jittery."
"Oh I know why," Marinette said, "but that's not important. I need your help, well Rena's help."
"Of course, let me just deliver Nino his dessert and I'll be right there."
"So here's the plan ..."
Marinette filled Alya in with as much as she could, slightly exaggerating some things and down playing others. Yes, she needed help getting Adrien to escape his house ... no, Chat isn't on drugs ... no, she wasn't going to dump Adrien for Chat Noir.
After fifteen minutes of listening to Alya, Marinette stopped her friend and brought her back onto the same page.
It was time for Aspik to make a return.
•• Adrien's POV••
Adrien walked around the courtyard berating himself for how stupid he'd been. He'd left his coat with Marinette which had both his phone and his kwami in. He was in that much of a daze from her gentle kiss to his cheek, he seemed to have lost any coherent thought.
Now, this would have all been fine except he'd sneaked out the mansion as Chat Noir and now he was trying to sneak back in as Adrien. He looked up at his open window and considered how much it would hurt if he fell. He'd properly end up with a broken arm, or leg, maybe even both, oh and definitely a severe concussion. As painful as it all sounded it would give him a couple of weeks in bed with no modelling. Pros and cons really, pros and cons.
He placed one foot on a plant pot and began to heave himself up the wall, only to find there was nowhere to grip. Once, twice, three times to no success. He was just hitting five foot ten, yet he couldn't reach higher than six foot on the wall. What a chump!
"Having some trouble there, sunshine?"
Adrien snapped his head to the side.
"Al- I mean Rena Rouge, what are you doing here? Is Ladybug ok?" Panic began to set in, what if something had happened? He hadn't got his phone so there was no notification of an akuma attack, plus he didn't have Plagg. No, no, no this was bad.
"Why are you so panicked?" Alya dropped down next to Adrien on the concrete and looked up to his open window. "Also, were you trying to climb that?"
"I - um - I," he looked around for some inspiration, but he was screwed. "I was tired of climbing the one in my room?" He didn't know why he'd asked it as a question, but hey ho, life was kicking him in the backside today.
"O-Kay," she didn't sound like she believed him, hell he wouldn't believe himself either. "Anyway, Ladybug has asked me to pass this onto you."
She handed him the bracelet which plagued his nightmares for years. The only time he was successful was when he unified it with Plagg, the other thousands of times he'd just been a burden.
"What about Lu- about Viperion?"
"He's out with LB at the moment wearing a different Miraculous. Apparently she wanted to give other holders a chance to experience different Miraculous', because well, you never know. Between you and me, I think she wanted him to have the black cat, she would work well with Viperion as the cat."
Adrien gritted his teeth. What the hell was this about?
"Yes," he spat out, "just peachy."
"Anyway, you know what to do with Sass, and you'll meet your training partner on the roof of the school in about thirty minutes. I've just got one more drop off to do."
With that Rena bounded out of the courtyard and he watched her run along the rooftops and into the night. Adrien left staring with a nasty taste in his mouth.
