Prologue

3rd Person Pov:
He couldn't stop being nervous. He couldn't concentrate on their newest comic book. He couldn't think of words to write down. He felt his tie feel a bit tighter on him as he panicked. He looked over to see his best friend doodling away some characters for their newest comic book. He saw how calm and happy he was after their last adventure. How come Harold Hutchins was so calm? How can he be so calm after going into the future like that? Knowing he is gay. Knowing he'll get married to another male and have kids. Even though George Beard is the smart one of the two, he can't understand that. He was freaked out about everything that will happen in the future. He saw that he'll get married to another girl and have kids yet, he doesn't want that future.

"Calm down, tell him how you feel." He said to himself, you see George has been developing a crush on his own best friend. Something, he thought he could never have considering he wasn't gay. He was straight, right? "Um, buddy. I-I got something to tell you." He said, Harold, took his eyes off of his sketchbook. He looked over to his best friend and nodded for him to continue. "Okay, so this is actually I really wanted to tell you for a while." He was getting off track, he knew it, he could sense it. "What is it?" His best friend asked, now getting curious about this. "You see the thing is...I-I always liked you." George spat out, he knew that wasn't the best way to put it but, he was too panicked he forgot what to say. "Me too!" Harold replied with a smile on his face.

"Not like t-that! I mean I like like you as in relationship love." George clarified as he fiddled with his tie. Silence rang throughout their treehouse and both could notice the awkward tension between them.

"Okay, look. I like you but, only as a best friend." Harold replied as he got up from the chair he was sitting on. George could feel his heart break like an arrow to an apple. "We've seen the future if I end marrying that guy, Billy. I want to know how happy I am going to be with him. Plus, he seems pretty cute." He explained as he patted his best friend's head. He was close to the exit but, he left George with one last sentence. "Sorry but, I can't accept those feelings. We can still be best friends! I'll see you tomorrow!" He exclaimed and went down the latter to his home.

George could feel the sudden coldness in the treehouse and he could feel how hurt he felt. He could feel tears in his eyes, he felt so alone all of sudden. He tried holding back his emotions but, he stopped fighting back and cried. He cried knowing how normal Harold is going to act after all this. How he wants to meet his future lover. How he wants to know if they are the perfect match. They are, why else are they going to be together in the future. Why else did they decide to have children of their own. George could wait and see if something would change in Harold's feelings. Something that would make his best friend realize something. And so, he decided to wait for tomorrow to come.

But the thing is...

Harold never talked to George ever again for the rest of their time at Middle School.
