Chapter 44: Miracle Distractions
Melvin's Pov:
"Well, crap, I don't get how this machine works..." I mumbled after removing my arm from my nose. I've been experimenting with this machine for a while now yet, all it does is blow dust and smoke in my face. I coughed aggressively and I knew I had to take a step outside for a breather. Yet, if I go out, Billy will notice me and my entire plan will fail. My eyes widen as I heard something being slammed against a wall. "Oh, you little shit! I'll hurt you worse!" I heard Billy yell out. I forgot about whatever I was thinking about before and stepped outside into the open air. I looked up only to see Captain Underpants trying to avoid Billy's...mechanical tentacles? Since when did he get those? I realized I was finally free from that breathing hazard machine so, I quickly took out my inhaler and used it while I still could. I was interrupted quickly when Captain Underpants managed to grab one of Billy's tentacles. I quickly put away my inhaler as I saw how the Captain spun him around until he threw him where I stood. "Watch out!" He exclaimed as he noticed where I was standing. I looked around quickly for a hiding spot but, the Alternate Time Machine is my only option. I was about to jump into the machine until Billy's impact forced me in there. I could hear his tentacles help Billy get back up and I put my legs close to my chest. I panicked as I reached my arm out and I grabbed the curtains before swiping them closed. "Son of a bitch..." He mumbled out softly. One of his tentacles hit the ground and I gasped loudly. I put my hands on my mouth almost immediately as I heard Billy turn around.
"Someone is there, you say?" He questioned and I hear the tentacles make some type of sound of agreement. I held my breath and I shifted my legs as close to my chest as possible. Please, go away. "Liars..." He mumbled before walking away. I removed my hands and I took a deep breathe in and out. I took out my inhaler and used it as I almost deprived myself of oxygen once again. I put my inhaler away and closed my eyes tightly until I opened them quickly as I heard some things being said.
I slowly and carefully peek out the curtains to see Billy standing near Harold. "Oh, my sweet husband. I promise I'll win against that underwear idiot and we can go back to a happier time. Just you and me. Together forever. I promise that." Billy mumbled as he put his forehead against Harold's. I almost gagged at the sight and words, this wasn't love at all. This was just pure obsessiveness over someone he knows he should move on about. I feel both bad and pity toward the blonde guy, he didn't deserve this. But, most importantly, George doesn't deserve this.
They were just two best friends who hung out a lot and made comics. Who understood each other and then, George passed on that feeling toward me. They were just...children. I was just a child too. So, why did we suffer the way we did? "Don't worry, Harold, I'll save you, I promise," I whispered. "Get away from my sidekick, villain!" Captain Underpants exclaimed as he shot underwear at Billy's head. "Oh, you bastard! You aren't doing a very good job at protecting your sidekicks then, are you?" Billy asked as his tentacles picked up some concrete from the ground and threw it at the Captain.
Captain Underpants was hit by it and was thrown to the ground with a harsh impact. "Wait, where is George?" I asked as I realized he was nowhere to be seen. "Had enough, Captain?" Billy asked, the word being "captain" said as if it was the worst word possible. He started to make his way over to Captain Underpants with the help of his tentacles as he lifted the concrete. It was thrown over his shoulder and toward a rusty flag pole and that's when I saw it.
I saw someone gasp and shut their eyes as they did whatever they could to avoid the concrete from hitting them. The concrete, fortunately, missed him by only the tips of his shoes. "Hold on, Captain Underpants!" George yelled out. What is? Why and how did George get tied up to a flag pole that is leaning over the building? I could hear the flag pole briefly creak and it went over the edge a little more. George screamed at that and I could hear Billy chuckle from the other side lowly chuckle. "You hear that? It's the sound of your sidekick screaming for his life. Probably wondering why aren't you winning..." Billy explained.
"This messed up person..." I mumbled as my eyes widen at those words. Billy doesn't even care if Captain Underpants dies. Hell, he doesn't even care if the Space-Time continuum is thrown off balance and destroyed. This idiot doesn't even understand basic science. If Harold leaves this timeline, he'll definitely won't survive whatever timeline Billy will come from. So, either way, this is a lose-lose situation! I groaned as I realized how complex the situation has become and the many reasons that showed up to tell me we HAVE to defeat Billy before it's too late.
My eyes went toward the ground and looked around the area until it landed on a nearby golden key. I looked up to see if the others were distracted and Billy seemed pretty busy with the Captain. So, I left my spot and quickly yet, quietly crawled over to grab the key. Once I grabbed it, I looked up to see George looking at me with a scared look. "I'll save you both, I promise..." I mouthed to him reassuringly before returning back to my spot. I got up and looked around the machine before I noticed a key slot below the screen.
I inserted the key and the screen booted itself up then, it went to the home screen menu is what I'm assuming it is. "Yes! Now, let's look at these options..." I mumbled, reading each option carefully.
