Chapter 30: Temporary Roommates
Heidi's Pov:
"Hey, George. I was wondering when you would arrive." I spoke, opening the door to see him at the door. "Yeah, sorry. It's just that I missed the first train and I had to wait for the second one." George responded as he chuckled a bit. "Okay, that's not possible. I know for a fact that there was not a second train." I spoke as he entered my apartment. "How did you know?" He asked, teasingly. "Well, I checked the route and all that information. So, what happened that made you so late?" I explained as he set his bags somewhere. As I went to go get two coffee mugs, I heard him let out a huge sigh. "It took some time to pack my stuff, I had to leave a note, and well, I had to sneak out so Harold wouldn't notice me." He explained, sitting down at the table. "I see. Did he notice you at all?" I asked, preparing the coffee. "At first, he was suspicious of me. He was asking me where I was going or why I was packing my stuff. I had to lie saying I was packing books and other stuff to take to the library. Then, he backed off, I guess he was still pissed at me to notice." He explained as I poured the coffee in our mugs. "At least, my brother backed off since he's a jerk. How are you feeling?" I asked, setting down his mug in front of him. "Good, I guess. I'm really just relieved to leave that place. Harold was being a real jerk to deal with. I hate him sometimes." George replied, taking a sip of his coffee. I nodded slowly as I took a sip of mine and sighed softly. What does my brother do sometimes?
What kind of thoughts does he have when he makes the decisions he chooses to do? Why did my brother change so drastically? I looked over at George to see a saddened look on his face as he continues to drink his coffee. What did Harold say to him this time? "Hey, George. Do you kinda wanna talk about what happened?" I asked, hesitantly as I grasped my coffee mug a bit harder. There a moment of silence for a while as he thought about it. "Yeah, sure but, first, let's finish this and unpack my stuff." He replied after the short wait.
I nodded and finished my coffee instantly as I put it in the sink. I bring his backpack and bags into my room as I wait for him to finish. I peek into the kitchen to check on him and I see his head down with the coffee mug next to him. I quietly walk next to him and poke his shoulder to check on him. He looks up and smiles, probably one of the fakest smiles I ever have seen. "Come on, are you done with the coffee? Do you wanna unpack and settle for the night?" I ask, concerned about him.
Okay, seriously, what did that idiotic brother of mine say to him? He slowly stands up and I lead him to my bedroom to settle for the night. "Okay, how about we talk about what happened while I help you unpack?" I suggested and he nods slowly as he looks down. He gets his backpack and unzips it as he gets out the stuff he needs for these few days. "Oh, uh, don't worry. I won't stay here for long, besides, Harold might notice that I'm gone anyway." George reassures as he gets out his stuff.
"No, you don't worry about that. Stay here for as long as you need to." I reply, smiling. We start setting aside his items and I look over at him, realizing we need to chat. "So, what happened to you and Harold?" I asked. "Well, I guess it all started when I mentioned that I was going on a date with Melvin again. He said a date can end anyhow in any way. He told the reasons and we both started spewing out the things that changed within us. How he changed from being a shy artist to a jerky bully." He explained, sitting down on my bed.
"First of all, a date with Melvin? When did this happen?" I asked, curiously?. "Like a few days ago, my date is on Friday at 7 PM. Ever since that, Harold has been teasing and being mean toward me." He explained, blushing a little. "George, I mean, do you have a crush on Melvin?" I asked, sitting on the floor. "I don't know. I just accepted his offer because I want to take my mind off of Harold and why he left. Maybe I do, maybe I don't." He responded, looking away.
"George, think about it. Maybe, Harold is a little jealous that someone like Melvin asked you out. I mean, do they have something going on between the two?" I asked. "Well, Melvin is overprotective of me when Harold is around. And Harold does tend to send glares to Melvin when he's around. But, I doubt he would be jealous. He's going out with Billy, his future husband." George responded, looking back at me. "George, how many times do people have to say this to you. Just because you saw the future, doesn't mean it's the certain one." I explained, getting up and sitting next to him.
"Who knows, maybe, after that visit, you altered the future. But, you can't trust one future." I added, putting a hand on his shoulder. "But, then, why does it feel like that future is already coming near?" He questioned, looking down. "Because I feel that maybe it could be a trap," I replied. "Think about it, that mysterious boy that Harold met the day after the whole visiting future thing. That was the day, everything changed. I'm not sure about you, but, I think it may be a good time to call Krupp. It's a little suspicious." I explained and his eyes lighten up.
"Yeah, uh, I guess, you're right. Let's just get some sleep." George responded and I nodded.
