Chapter 27: All Alone With Thoughts
3rd Person Pov:
Silence was the only thing present and not the good kind, the bad awkward kind. "Oh jeez, did I really just say that?" Melvin thought, a sweat drop dripping down his face. He hadn't really planned to say that, it just happened since the moment was just right. Melvin could see George's eye widen every second and the blush on his face darken. "C-Come again?" George stuttered. "I-I...Okay, fine. I'm asking if you wanna go on a date together." Melvin replied, looking away. He never thought of doing anything like this in the future. Even in elementary school, he knew in his mind he would never fall in love with anyone. The mere thought of romance disgusted him, the emotions, the affection, everything. That is until George was in a bad place and he wanted to help, he realized how he was feeling near his old enemy. Heart beating faster. Nervous to say even a word or a sentence. His face warms up. George looked down at his poster for a while as his eyes kept darting any place that wasn't Melvin. He never expected anything like this to happen considering their past together. But, now, here they were. In awkward silence with a blush darkening on their faces. "Well, this whole 'Harold situation' is stressing me out and I do need to take my mind off him. Plus, you seem like a pretty decent guy too!" George responded, looking up finally. "Is that yes?" Melvin asked, looking at George once again. "Hm, well, do you think on Friday at 7 P.M. will work?" George asked, trying to get confirmation. "Oh! Uh, yeah! That'll work for me just fine! I have to get going now but, I'll see you later! Bye!" Melvin exclaimed, getting up from his seat.
George softly chuckled as he waved goodbye at his flustered best friend who left quickly. Soon enough, he was alone in his dorm with nothing but, his thoughts to keep him company. George put his face into his hands as he groaned loudly. 'I can't believe that happened!' Both of them thought. Melvin stood on the other side of the door as he slid down against it. He needed a bit of time to relax after what had happened. George silently put his head against the table and area of the dorm before him. He needed time to just think.
So many things were happening fast and not to his liking. First comes Harold then, Heidi, and now, Melvin. "I can't believe it though. I'm going on a date with my best friend who just so happened to be an old enemy." Melvin mumbled underneath his breath. He never thought about this happening. To have his mind so jumbled up at the sight of George. To have to gain so much more confidence just to ask him out. Now, he did and he got accepted too! "Get up, Melvin. You need to get mentally prepared for your date." He mumbled, slowly getting up.
Melvin walked around a corner to get to the elevator only to walk into someone. "Pardon me-" He stopped halfway once he noticed who it was. "Oh, it's just you, Harold." Melvin spoke with an annoyed tone and expression. "Yeah, who else would it be?" Harold asked, his hands at his hips with an equally sounding annoyed tone. "Just someone I'd actually feel guilty for running into." Melvin responded, getting out of the way to return to his original route. Harold looked back with a glare but, continued to walk to his dorm. "Typical nerdy asshole." He spoke, knocking on the door of his dorm.
"Welcome home, Harold! Get ready quick, seriously. You'll be late for work." George spoke. "Is it just me or do you sound different?" Harold asked as George turned around. Harold quickly grabbed George's wrist and pulled him closer which confused George ultimately. "As well as feel and look different?" Harold asked, feeling George's forehead and squinting his eyes at him. "It's nothing! Probably just tiredness of working on a business thing. Please, just get ready for work!" George exclaimed, pulling away from the grasp. Harold nodded his head slowly and ran to his room to change.
"George, once I get out of this room, you have to tell me what is going on with you! Because I know for a fact, you are definitely hiding something with a lie!" Harold exclaimed from their bedroom. George silently gulped but, soon questioned why he was feeling the way he did. He shouldn't be feeling scared or nervous to tell Harold. He should be calm and brave to tell what was going to happen on that upcoming Friday night. George breathed in and out slowly and quietly. Soon enough, most of that nervousness went away and he was ready to admit it.
He heard the noise of the doorknob and readied himself to tell what happened. "Alright, no jokes. What is going with you?" Harold asked, putting his jacket over his work uniform. "Honestly, it's not much. It isn't that business thing I was working on. It was something else." George started, looking away slightly. He closed his eyes for a second before looking at Harold with a confident glance. "Melvin asked me out and I accepted the offer. We're leaving at 7 P.M on Friday for our date." George admitted, finally.
"Oh? Really? That's-I'm really proud of you, buddy. I-uh, I have to get going now! But, I'll tell you dating advice and how my date went later!" Harold responded, quickly going to the door and leaving. George was once again left in silence all alone but, this time with confusion. "What was that reaction? Was that good or bad?" George questioned as questions kept getting created and lingering. "Ah, whatever. I shouldn't worry about him anymore." He responded, leaning against the wall. His phone on the table suddenly caught his attention and he slowly stood up straight again.
"Billy..." He mumbled, remembering his original plan.
