Chapter 22: My Crush's Sister

George's Pov:
"Heidi?" A quietly mumbled. What is she doing here? Why isn't Harold's mom here? The room was filled with silence as she made her way over to the bed. Harold never took his eyes off of her as he was confused. Once Heidi was close to him, she moved one arm out and punched Harold in the stomach. "Ow! Jeez!" He yelled out, holding his stomach. "I'm still sick. Calm down, you psycho!" Harold added, his voice strained in pain. I looked at Melvin who stared me with a surprised glance. "Who is she? How do they know each other? Are they ex-lovers or something?" Melvin questioned. "Melvin, they look the same, what do you mean?" I asked. "Well, you wouldn't be in this situation if you didn't take care of yourself!" Heidi exclaimed, crossing her arms. "Oh shut up, you annoying little brat." Harold spoke, laying back down in bed. "No wonder mom was hesitant about you living alone." Heidi spoke, looking away. "Because I'm older than you, genius. I need privacy since I'm in high school." Harold responded, clearly annoyed. "Siblings huh? How come I never met her?" Melvin asked. "She is younger than us, she was in kindergarten when we were elementary." I explained, staring at the scene that was playing out before us. "Right, I'm pretty sure you suck at every subject there is considering your past grades." She mocked with a smirk. "Not in front of people, you idiot! Why didn't mom come for me?" Harold exclaimed, smashing his face against his pillow. "Mom's busy with work. She has two kids to pay educational bills for! It's not like dad helps to pay them." She explained, smacking her brother's head. "Their father doesn't pay? It's just their mother? How come?" Melvin questioned.

"Their father had a divorce with their mom so yeah. How about we leave them be?" I suggested. Melvin nodded slowly as we slowly walked to the other side of the room. "Well, Harold, I hope you feel better soon. We'll be taking leave now." I spoke, panicking slightly at his glare. "Hey, wait!" Heidi yelled as she grabbed our arms. "Aren't you gonna thank them for saving your life?" She questioned. Harold looked at us and sighed as she slowly sat up again in bed. "Thank you, dorks. I'll owe you guys something." He spoke, looking away. "Yeah, no problem. We'll be going now." I replied.

"Hey, wait! I'll go with you!" Heidi spoke, running to my side. "Melvin, what about you?" I asked, noticing he lagged back. "You can go on ahead. I must have a talk with Harold. I'll see you later." Melvin explained, crossing his arms as he stared at Harold. They both held a strong glare at one another and sweated a bit. I slowly nodded as I opened the door to leave. Heidi followed after me as we took the stairs to the lobby. I looked at the clock in the lobby which now read 7 AM.

I sighed as I realized it was better to take the day off from school, the hospital did inform the academy for our absence. "So, George, that's your name, right? I'm Heidi Hutchins, Harold's sister! Nice to meet you!" She exclaimed, shaking my hand. "Yeah, that's right, it's George Beard. So, why are you here in the hospital?" I asked as we sat down in the seats. "Well, my mom received the call about Harold and since she couldn't come because of her job, she enlisted me to do it. She's kinda pissed about the whole situation since Harold is a man-brat." She explained.

"Man-brat?" I questioned, I never heard that word before. "Harold may look older than he is but, he's still a childish brat on the inside. So, he's a man-brat." She explained, chuckling a bit. "Man-brat. Yeah, true, he's such a jerk!" I pouted, remembering each time he was one. "Aheh, so, you're in high school right? I'm an 8th grader at your old school, they expanded the grades for some reason." She whined at the last part. "Yeah, me, Harold, and that other kid named Melvin are all juniors at Moonlight Academy. Wait! You mean you go to Jerome Horwitz Elementary?" I exclaimed, shocked.

"Yeah, the school was big enough to hold four more grade so, they did just that. Harold is right about one thing though, Mr.Krupp is really strict and mean. Except when he's around Edith that is then it's all cupcakes and rainbows." She explained, teasing me at the last part. "Yeah, he is. I'm glad that Harold and I brought them together though." I spoke, smiling at the last part. Oh, how I wish that we were still friends so we can look back and laugh.

"You used to Harold's old best friend, right?" She asked, her cheery tone now gone. "Yeah, how did you know?" I asked, looking down. "Our parents know each other, George. Plus, Harold's invites you and he gets invited to your old treehouse. Mom never really stops talking about you since you guys left for high school." She explained, slightly smiling. Ms.Hutchins, she was a really nice lady and my parents felt bad for her about the divorce. She was fine by it considering she wanted it, she really appreciated how we treated her family like we were related. I miss her a lot just as I miss my early childhood.

"What happened with you guys?" Heidi asked, concerned. "It's a long story, to say the least." I replied, standing up. "You can tell me about along the way. I mean, we're both free from class. We can breakfast, I'll pay!" She spoke. "I guess okay. Well, come on then." I replied as we exited out of the hospital.

I suddenly felt a wave of relief as I stepped outside.
