Chapter 18: In Front Of Us
Melvin's Pov:
"Yeah, so, I don't which club to pick. It's either cooking or writing. I really like cooking, it's so fun to see people eating and enjoying something you made. But, I loved telling stories ever since I was in kindergarten, I can't just drop it. What club do you choose to be in?" George rambled. I looked at him with an unimpressed glare as he started to sweat a little. "George, I know what you're doing." I spoke, pushing my glasses upwards. "What do you mean?" He questioned. "Whenever you're hiding something, you always seem to ramble about whatever crap crosses your mind." I explained as we continued walking to school. "Well, first of all, I'm not hiding anything and second of all, I'm asking a genuine question." He pouted, crossing his arms and looking away. "I don't believe your excuse besides I always feel like something bad will start up when you're not smiling," I spoke as we stopped at the school entrance. He slightly chuckled and showed a small smile to calm my nerves. "Even if you smile now, I'm coming over and have a sleepover just to check if anything is happening in that dorm of yours," I stated as I put my hand on his head. I turned around and continued to walk inside the school. "You don't need to do that! Everything is just fine!" George exclaimed as he ran to catch up with me. "As your best friend, I must as best friends always check on one another." I replied and he slowly nodded. As we made it to our lockers, a few girls squealed and we looked in the direction of them. I noticed Harold and his little gang of troublemakers walking down the hallway. He looked both ways as if he was searching for someone.
Suddenly, he slammed his hand against a locker door and cornered that boy who helped me. "Hey, you seem pretty cute. Do you wanna hang out with us?" He asked with a smirk. "What kind of method of proceeding to ask someone out is that?" I asked George who shrugged his shoulders. "So, you want to hang out with me because I'm cute?" The boy asked. Harold nodded and I scoffed at the reason as I rolled my eyes. "Well, you don't seem like a bad guy plus you're as I would put it drop-dead gorgeous." The boy replied, winking.
"You'd think someone with a brain would decline an offer like that." I spoke as I facepalmed. "Good, what's your name?" Harold asked as he took out a piece of paper and pen. "He planned this I know it. I mean, who does this?" I stated, starting to get annoyed. The boy took the paper and pen, he wrote down something as he smiled. "My phone number and name is on there, okay? Call me, later." The boy spoke as he left the gang with a wink. Harold looked at the slip of paper and his eyes widen.
He blushed furiously and looked at his friends with a smile on his face. "I wonder why his reaction was that, oh well, he's got a date so that's that," I spoke as I closed my locker door. In the corner of my eye, I saw Harold and his gang walk up to us. "Hey, George, maybe we should leave," I mumbled, panicking a bit as I shook his shoulder. I saw his head look down as tears dared to stream down his face. "Hey, loser. I noticed you making heart eyes at Harold." One of the members spoke. "Hey, leave George alone!" I exclaimed, angrily.
I was pushed against a locker suddenly by none other than Harold himself. "Just shut it, okay?" He whispered. "Understand he has a boyfriend now. So, you better not try anything funny or else." The member threatened and George nodded quickly. The gang chuckled and Harold let go of me. As I dusted off my uniform, I swear I could have seen George and Harold staring at one another for a minute before leaving. I could George pout and look away as Harold sighed and left. "Are you alright?" I asked as I put my hand on his head.
"Why is it that everything that could have possibly gone wrong for me happened?" He asked, tears streaming down his face already. "Ignore him, Harold isn't worth your time anymore. He missed out on dating someone as cool as you." I complimented as we both smiled. "Oh, by the way, the club I want to join in is the science club." I added as I gave him a wink. He chuckled and the bell rang, we both waved goodbye at each other and went to class.
George really didn't handle that confession too well.
