Chapter 13: Pay Attention To Me!
Melvin's Pov:
I closed my locker door and sighed as I looked at my watch. I haven't seen George this morning and I'm really worried about him. Did he oversleep or did something come up? Or maybe he is here today but, he just doesn't want to hang out with me today? No, he would always want to hang out with me since he's too shy to make friends. Maybe he has the confidence to make friends again and abandoned me. 'Stop overreacting, Melvin. There is a perfectly rational reason as to why George isn't present.' I scolded myself as I walked through the hallways with my items in hand. As if on cue, George ran past me and I turned around quickly to try to stop him. I made an attempt to grab his arm but, I failed and ended up dropping two of my notebooks. I dropped down to pick them up until another hand went on the other notebook. I looked up to see a boy with white skin, dark hair, and brown eyes. He was wearing the same uniform as everyone else but, he just had the vest wrapped around his hips. "Sorry for scaring you there. Heres your notebook." He spoke as we got up. "Thank and it's fine." I replied as he handed my other notebook. He soon left with a wave and I grasped on my notebooks tighter just to make sure that they won't fall again. I remembered George and turned around to run after him. Why was he running? Was someone chasing him? Did he forget something? Does he need to see someone quickly? I reached a corner and saw him standing still while looking both ways. 'He's definitely looking or waiting for someone but, who?' I thought as I continued to watch him.
I noticed Harold walk pass me and I hoped he didn't notice me staring at George. That would be an awkward confrontation that I most certainly wouldn't want to be a part of. "Harold!" I heard George exclaim and Harold stopped for a moment before leaving. After that, I looked at George and saw his expression had saddened. What is he so sad about? I thought Harold had broken his heart enough for him to get used to it. He suddenly trembled as he turned the other way to walk. Is he afraid of something? What's wrong with him? Why won't he tell me? Does he not trust me? The bell rang and my mind snapped out of my thoughts. I made my way to class and tried to forget what just happened. It was probably a one-time thing.
I sat down in my seat and put my things to the side of my desk. I noticed the teacher wasn't here yet so, I'm guessing we had some sort of free time before she comes in. I looked over to see Harold sleeping on his desk. I was surprised since he usually always come in with energy and sass. Wonder what got into him or at least what happened to him for him to get a lack of sleep. I will admit though he is sleeping rather peaceful which is odd.
I'm so used to his tough and controlling personality type. I heard the door slightly creek and I looked over to see someone standing there. 'That must be the teacher. I should probably wake Harold up.' I thought as I took out my notebook for the class. I was about to tap Harold's shoulder or shake him until the door fully opened. "Haro-" The person was stopped mid-way. I looked around to see George standing there with a blush. He trembled slightly and I could see him sweat with fear. My eyes widen at the scene and I looked around the classroom.
The once loud classroom with students talking became a quiet one. Some students stood there surprised at the scene while others slightly chuckled at George. "O-oh my! W-Wrong classroom! I'll g-get going now." He stuttered as he quickly left with the door being slammed shut. I could his footsteps echo as he ran further away from the classroom. "What's going on here?" I heard Harold asked as he woke up. "Um, something weird happened for sure. But, I think you might find out later." I replied as he yawned and rubbed his eyes.
Why does George want Harold's attention so badly that he almost made a fool out of himself?
