Beep. Beep. Beep.
"Harry, turn off your alarm!" Louis groaned. When he didn't receive an answer, he turned around in his bed to face the curly boy, but he wasn't there. That's when he smelled smoke.
Jumping up from his bed, he quickly ran out to the living room, but he wasn't there either. Quickly slipping on some converse, he ran towards the door, spotting Harry finally in the kitchen. He didn't take notice to what Harry was doing there when the dorm fire alarm was going off, he just quickly grabbed Harry and ran out.
"Louis, what are you-"
"Shut up curly, that alarm means there's a fire and you should've been out that door already!" Louis yelled at him, making Harry lower his head as they ran out the dorm building and into the grass.
Louis bent over, coughing a bit from the smoke intake, trying to get in some air.
"Louis, are you okay?" Harry panicked slightly.
"He's fine, just needs some air is all." Harry looked up to see Louis' friends walking towards them. Louis stood up and smiled. "Zayn! Liam! Did you guys have to leave your building too?"
"Nah, we were just walking around when the alarms suddenly went off in your building. You guys okay?" Liam explained, making sure they were breathing fine. Louis turned and looked at Harry, who was shifting around while looking at the ground.
"Harry, are you okay? Can you breathe alright?" Louis asked worriedly.
Harry looked up and faltered a smile. "Yea, yea..I'm good."
"You sure? You seem a bit off.. did something happen?"
Now Harry looked down again, before mumbling something the boys could barely hear.
"Harry, you're going to have to speak up. I didn't catch what you said.." Harry sighed before repeating himself. "I said, I caused the fire.."
Louis laughed a bit after hearing him. "Harry, you don't have to put the blame on yourself, there could be many reasons it happened. What do you mean you caused it?"
Harry kicked up some grass before answering again. "I was making breakfast, but burnt the food. I tried putting it out with water.."
Louis started laughing hysterically. "Oh curly, you don't put out a grease fire with water! That makes it worse!" Harry blushed in embarrassment and kept his head down.
"Oh calm down Hazza, we all make mistakes. You have to learn to laugh at them!" Louis smiled, making Harry blush more at the sudden nickname.
"Hazza? Is that my pet name or something?" Harry laughed a little. "Why, do you not like it, Hazza?" Louis laughed to himself. Harry smiled as well. "No, I love it, Lou bear." Louis grimaced at the name while Harry laughed at his expression. "Just say Lou, if you're going to give me a pet name as well." They both smiled.
"So, Tommo, this is the Gucci kid you've been talking about, ey?" Zayn smiled, putting an arm around Louis.
"Gucci kid?" Harry looked up. "I thought we established that I haven't much money?"
"So no watches then?" Liam pondered, making Harry roll his eyes jokingly. "What's up with everyone expecting a Gucci watch from me?"
All the boys laughed some more, before hearing the alarms go off, meaning they could go back inside since the fire is out.
-
"Hazza, I'm heading over to Liam's if you need me!" Louis called out into the dorm before slipping on some converse. Classes were canceled when they got back to the dorm, so Louis was going to head over to Zayn and Liam's building after he got cleaned up.
"Okay, thanks Lou! I'll make sure not to miss you too much!" Louis could hear his laugh at the end of the sentence, making him roll his eyes as he slipped on a jacket and head out the door.
It was getting colder, seeing as they were nearing the beginning of October. Stepping outside, he felt the cool air hit his face as he made his way over the grass to their dorm building.
Stepping inside, he had a rush of warm air, escaping through the open doors. He made his way up the steps, opening the room door.
He heard Perrie's voice as he walked in. Making his way to the living room, he saw her and Zayn on one couch, Liam on another.
Walking over to Liam, he sat down on the couch as well, leaving Zayn and Perrie to make out on the other.
"Hey Tommo, I was afraid I'd have to sit with these two alone." Liam laughed, making Louis smile. "I wouldn't leave you like that, Li. Why didn't you invite your girlfriend then?"
Liam shrugged. "She's out. i didn't wanna bother her." Louis nodded, grabbing one of the beers they had out. Before he could open it, his phone went off, his mother's face lighting up the screen. He just frowned and let it ring.
"Still haven't talked to her, I'm assuming?" Louis shook his head, taking a drink of his open bottle. "Louis, it's been four years, you're going to have to talk to her at some point."
He let out a sigh, not wanting to talk about her.
"How are the girls doing?" Liam asked carefully, knowing it was a sensitive topic.
He just stared at his bottle in his hands, swirling the drink inside. "They're doing good, I still talk to Lottie and them. It's just her I don't talk to.."
Liam was silent for a minute before making a sad smile. "Louis-"
"I know what you're going to say, and I don't want to hear it. I have no reason to speak to her, and I don't plan on doing it anytime soon." He stood up, heading into their kitchen as to not disturb the couple on the couch still. Liam stood up and followed.
"Louis, I'm not saying you have to talk to her now, but soon. You can't just cut her off, she's your mother-"
"No, she's not. She's a monster. A mother wouldn't break her children's heart and kick out her child just so she can have more money to pay for that dickhead who beats her to bloody hell! That's not what a mother does, Liam! So as far as I'm concerned, she can call all she wants, but she's not going to get an answer." He threw his jean jacket back on before throwing open their door, deciding to head out early.
"Louis, calm down and just listen for once! You don't mean those things! You're just too scared to face her again-"
"I'm not scared of her, Liam. Fear is not something I feel when I think about her. Anger is one, though. Complete and utter anger is all I feel for that bi-"
"Louis, stop! You aren't listening again, as usual! I know how you actually feel, I know you're mad, but it's at him, not her! You're mad about him, so don't talk to him! Just talk to her. She's your mother who raised you, she deserves to at least know how her son is doing!"
People were staring at them now, since they were in the hall after Louis stepped out. It wasn't their business, so why were they still listening? This just made Louis' anger rise.
"Li, we'll talk about this later, not in the middle of a bloody hall for everyone to hear." Before Liam could even argue back, Louis stalked away quickly downstairs and out the door.
He didn't realize how long he was there, seeing as it was already dark outside, the air much cooler than earlier. He decided to wait outside for a bit, calming down before heading back to his room.
He wasn't scared of his mother, he had no reason to be. He was scared of himself. He didn't want his anger he had held up all these years to be let out on her. He was scared he would hurt her. He didn't want to turn out like him. He wanted to grow up like his father, and he wasn't his father. That's why Louis never loved, either. He never allowed himself to fall in love with someone. Once he noticed he was, he would cut them out of his life completely.
Maybe he was done with girls. This way, he wouldn't fall for another woman, and he wouldn't get hurt.
Deciding it was getting too cold, he made his way back to his building. Wiping his eyes, he opened the doors and walked down the barren hallways and found himself at his door, opening it and heading inside.
He could hear the tv from the living room, seeing the lights on from the dark kitchen he was in before walking through the doorway.
He smiled as he spotted a curly haired boy on his couch, watching the movie. "Still awake, curly? I would've thought you'd have gone to sleep by now." Harry turned to see Louis walking towards him, and smiled. " I'm not tired yet, I guess. Just waiting for you to get back." he winked jokingly.
Louis smiled softly. This boy always seemed to bring his mood up for the past month that he's known him. He felt closer to him then his mates though, which was a bit odd.
"Well I'm home, so we can hang out now." He took a seat on the couch next to Harry, who seemed to have dropped his smile a bit. "Lou, are you okay? You seem upset." his head tilted to the side a bit, like a lost puppy, which made Louis smile.
"Yeah, just some stuff happened back at Li's is all." he looked down at his hands that were resting on his lap.
Harry scooted closer to him, his body now fully facing toward Louis. "Do you want to talk about it? I'm here to listen, you know. Nothing you say will leave this room."
Louis let a tear fall, thinking about the fight earlier. Why did he get so angry about it? And at Liam? He was his closest friend, they almost never argued, unless it was something stupid. Liam knew it was a sensitive topic, so why did he push about it?
He didn't notice when Harry pulled him closer, holding him as Louis fisted his shirt, letting the tears fall. Usually he'd push them away if someone tried pitying him, but he didn't. He let Harry hold him, pet his hair softly, comfort him.
"Shh, Lou, it'll be okay. Just don't think about it right now, you'll be fine. It'll be over." he whispered softly, slightly rocking them as he curled his fingers through Louis' hair.
It was softer than he had imagined it to be, not that he was thinking about it or anything. It hurt to see Louis in his arms, crying, hurt. He didn't know what had happened, but he wouldn't bother him. He will tell him when he was ready.
After a while of tears, Louis pulled away and wiped his eyes, laughing a little. "I look like a big baby right now. My eyes are probably all puffy and red too, not very attractive."
Harry shook his head. "Louis, your a very handsome man. You won't look ugly if you cry, if anything it makes you look innocent and cute, actually."
Louis blushed lightly, smiling. "If anyone's cute, it's you curly. I'm quite jealous of your looks." Harry smiled, not trying to hide his blush like Louis was. They both felt something then, not knowing what it was, but it was something.
They both stayed silent for a few minutes, just looking at each other, before Louis realized and became awkward. "Well, uhm, it's getting kinda late. What do you say we head to sleep, Hazza?"
Harry smiled, standing up and pulling Louis up with him. They both head to the bedroom to get ready, before turning out the lights and heading into their own beds.
"Harry, I'm sorry, for earlier..some things happened, and it made me quite upset.." He could faintly see Harry's face thanks to the moon shining through the window, but it was still quite dark.
"Lou, you don't have to be sorry about something like that. I'm your roommate and your friend, I'm here for you if you need me."
This made Louis smile. His mates were always there for him, but having Harry be there for him too gave him a feeling of comfort. Maybe it was because they shared a dorm, but something about having him there made Louis feel closer to Harry than his other friends.
"Goodnight, Curly."
"Goodnight, Lou-Bear." Louis groaned and it just made Harry laugh, making Louis smile. This boy would be the death of him one day.
