Bum bum. Bum bum.
That's all he could hear, was his heartbeat through his ears. Muffled music and voices was all that was left of the party he was currently at. Then he felt someone pull away the girl who was snogging him, as he was pulled from the wall too.
"Louis, it's getting late, and you're hammered. Why don't we head back?"
That was Zayn, one of his childhood friends. He was always looking out for Louis, like he was his caretaker and Louis was his responsibility.
He slowly staggered away from the wall, Zayn holding him up as they walked. "Li is already in the car, I had to come find you. Didn't know you were into those kind of girls mate." He laughed slightly, looking down at a drunk and smiling Louis.
They make it to the car and he sets Louis in the back and makes his way to the passenger seat. "He really is hammered, huh Z?" That was Liam, the one who acted as his mother, and was always there to hear out all his problems. He actually took Louis in a few years ago, when he had nowhere else to go.
*
Louis was so little, about 6 at the oldest. He was in his room when he heard screaming from downstairs. He quickly ran down, wanting to know what happened. That's when he saw his step-father beating his mother. He starts crying, making the man turn towards him before grimacing and coming after him too. His mother tried holding him back, but wasn't strong enough as he knocked her down and proceeded to hit the child. Soon sirens were heard, luckily.
Then he turned 12, walking down the hallway to his mothers slightly open door. He saw her crying through the opening, and walked in, tearing up too. She almost lost the house, she can't afford all the kids, but is trying her best.
16. He got a part-time job to help out his mother, but it wasn't enough. She almost lost the house and the little ones. She didn't want to, but she had to let Louis go. She couldn't afford it. They both cried, but Louis would've understood, if she hadn't let his step-father back in the house after his jail release. He wouldv'e understood...but now he didn't care.
*
Would Louis have his life another way? Maybe. But that doesn't mean he regrets this one. He has his friends, he's in college now, and he has lots to be thankful for. He hates being unhappy and fighting, it reminds him of his mother and step-father.
People tell him he has a big heart. Not really, he actually doesn't. He's just afraid to have a relationship with someone, friends or more, and have it end the way his parents' did.
"So Louis, who was the girl you were snogging at the party, eh?" Zayn turned around in his seat to smile down at him. Louis just shrugged. He vaguely remembers anything of her. She walked up to him and started it, and he just went along.
"Well, she was a cute one. Not as cute as Perry obviously, but she seemed you're type." He smiled once more before turning back around.
Louis didn't actually think about what his type was. Maybe a cute girl, like Zayn had said. Or maybe he likes quiet girls, to balance out his own loudness. He never thought about it.
"We're here Tommo. Do you need Zayn to help you to your dorm?" Liam looked at him through the rearview mirror, making Zayn get ready to get out if he needed him. Louis just smiled. "I'll be fine lads, thanks for the lovely offer though."
He stepped out of the car, already making his way up the cobbled pathway.
"There's another party here soon, if you want to come out again!" Zayn yelled out the car window.
"A second date? With you guys? How could I refuse!" Louis laughed after them, before they drove toward their dorm building. Sadly, Louis' dorm was in a different building from theirs, otherwise he'd be at their room each day.
Walking through the lit up hallways wasn't too hard. He was still slightly sober, but the brightly lit building and the chattering of the other students still gave him a headache. Unlocking his door, he walked into his room before shutting and locking it up. He made his way to the bathroom, before slowly undressing and stepping into the shower to wash away the smell of alcohol. Letting the water run down his body, he laughed a little to himself. It's only been one week since school started and he's already drunk. New record since he started college. He's in his third year now.
After a while, he turned off the shower and stepped out, slipping on a pair of red sweats before looking in the mirror. He had quite a feminine face, like a pretty boy rather than the masculine type he wanted. His wet, feathery hair was draped in a fringe across his forehead, making his face look smaller.
Louis didn't hate how he looked, but he couldn't say he loved it either. But it's the body he was born with, and was going to have to live with for the rest of his life, so might as well just accept it. Unless he got plastic surgery, then you can just forget about dealing with it. But surgery was something Louis despised. He didn't like people who alter how they look, because it was like lying about who you were. No one's perfect, so no use trying to be.
He sighed before making his way to his bed. Falling down on his back, he looked to his left. Each dorm had 2 beds for 2 people. Louis didn't have a roomate, although he wouldn't mind one. No one wanted to share a room with him though, he was way too loud.
He shrugged off the idea. More room for himself, at least.
Pulling up the covers, he slowly fell asleep.

Louis slowly opened his eyes, his head was pounding. All he could hear was his heartbeat in his ears once again, thanks to his hangover he now had. Why had he decided to have more than one drink?
He groggily made his way out of bed, heading for the bathroom to get ready for his classes. Slipping on a pair of red jeans that hugged tight to his legs, a blue striped shirt and some suspenders, he looked in the mirror and fixed his brown fringe before slipping on some white converse.
He stalked his way to his bed and grabbed his class books for the day and his phone. He clicked it on, checking the time, just to see that he was already late for his first class. It started 10 minutes ago.
He silently cursed to himself before skipping breakfast and hurrying out his door.
He ran down the almost empty hall, since some students don't have morning classes like he did. He almost didn't see who it was he ran into that knocked him down.
Rubbing his already throbbing temple, he looked up. "I'm already going to be late, and you're just making the situation worse!" He didn't feel like being nice to the person, seeing as he was already having a bad morning.
Picking up his books, he quickly ran past them and stopped at the classroom door, taking in a few breathes before opening it silently. Luckily, he didn't see the professor anywhere, and quickly made his way up the steps to his seat by his friend Stan.
"Where were you this morning? I thought I'd have to sit through Mr. Baltin's lecture alone!" He laughed. Louis groaned and crossed his arms on his desk before resting his head on them. "Another hangover mate? You need to stop drinking so much before the day you have classes. Not very smart of you ey?" he laughed to himself. Louis only looked up at him and glared. "Don't act like you weren't hammered either. I saw you there with Eliza." Stan scoffed, but they both smiled before the professor walked in.
-
"How's your head doing, Louis? You still knocked up?" Liam looked sympathetically at him. Louis just shook his head lightly. It wasn't as bad as this morning, at least.
The boys were sitting in their usual lunch spot in the cafeteria. Most people went out to eat, which left the place quite emptied, which is why they stayed there at lunch every day. No loud noises to worsen their frequent hangovers. Plus, there's more food for seconds.
"I hear there's another party this weekend. We should go. You up for it, Tomlinson?" Zayn asked him
Louis didn't really feel like another party so soon, but he never refused an offer to one, so he smiled. "Sure, I don't have anything going on. How 'bout you, Li?" He shook his head as well, and they all agreed to go together.
"So, how's Perry doing?" Zayn smiled and said she was doing great, going out with her friends a lot, but they still have lots of time together. Soon they all smiled and chatted away, laughing at each others stories they told.
-
"Hurry and set your things down Tommo! Li and I will be in his dorm, so come over." Zayn smiled before taking his arm off Louis' shoulder and making his way to their dorm, leaving Louis to head to his own building to drop his things off quickly.
He walked through the familiar hallway and stopped at his door, turning the knob and about to pull out his keys, but instead saw it was already unlocked. Why was it open? He was sure he locked up this morning.
Carefully, he opened the door, hearing shuffling going around inside. Keeping his guard up, he made his way inside, in case it was an intruder and not some kid playing a prank.
He took small steps away from the door and through the kitchen, going into the living room. Maybe he was just hearing things, nothing seemed out of place.
He jumped as he heard someone curse from down the hall, coming from the bedroom. He took steps toward the bedroom door, slowing as he got closer and the noises became more apparent.
Looking inside, he saw a tall stature of a person, going through their luggage.
Accidently tripping on air, he stumbled into the room, catching himself on the doorway. The person jumped and turned around to face him. "Oh, hi, you must be my roomate, then. I'm-"
Louis looked up at hearing his voice, and immediately fumed. "You! You're the curly headed kid who made me late this morning!" He was now standing again as he practically yelled, making the boy cower a bit at his voice.
"S-Sorry about that, I didn't see you and-"
"Save it curly, you about scared me! I thought someone had broke in!"
The boy just seemed to cower down more, not getting a chance to speak and explain himself because of him.
"Look, I'm sorry for this morning, and I'm sorry for scaring you, but they gave me this room, saying I'd be roommates with someone, and I didn't know-"
"Didn't know what? That someone was staying here? You think you're too fancy to stay in a room with someone? Does Mr. Expensive Looking Attire need his own room? Why don't I bring you some champagne while we're at it?"
The curly haired boy seemed offended, but hesitated to defend himself. "I didn't say that, so don't put words into my mouth and assume you know me already."
Louis scoffed at his answer. He didn't need to deal with this right now, Liam and Zayn were waiting in the next building for him, probably wondering where he is.
"I don't have time to argue with you Mr. Money, I have somewhere to be." He walked over to his bedside table and grabbed his wallet before looking up at him again. "Either you leave this room and find another before I get back, or I'll happily find one for you." He glared at the curly haired boy before stalking out of the room and making his way quickly out the door and leaving the building. He ran his fingers through his feathery hair. "Can this day get any worse.."
