I'm totally dreading seeing Cecilia Summers in school today.
It feels so WEIRD when you're the only one who knows that there's an investigation going on.
But also, you have to be SECRETIVE about it . . . Or else!!
I wanted to talk about Brandon's invites and that Mackenzie rumour to Chloe and Zoey, but sadly, both of them are all engrossed in getting a FREE T-shirt for this event called Holiday on Ice.
Then my gym teacher made a loud sound with her whistle, I wish she swallowed it!!
Hey, that sound COMPLETELY depeleted my eardrums!!!
Then she talked about the show, that it's part of Westchester holoday tradition for grade eight students to skate and encourage community service, that we'll get As like candy because of this charity event. And also that we had to get a shirt and do some warm up exercises.
Now that I think about it . . . That doesn't sound so bad :) !! I once tried ice skating when I was in grade three and I admit that it's fun!
Until I realized only the XXXXXL T-shirt was left for ME :( !!!
Mackenzie looked like she was ready for a photoshoot of Vogue while I looked like a fat, mouldy slug!
I was so . . . DISGUSTED :( !
Mackenzie glanced at me with this evil grin that I wanted to smack out of her face. She approached me but then Chloe and Zoey stopped blabbering and reacted upon sight.
"Nikki! Poor you!! Why didn't you tell us that your shirt was like this?!" Chloe gasped and looked how humongous my shirt was.
Zoey took an observant look on my shirt and she smiled. "Wait, Chloe, get your hair accesories. I know how to make this shirt work!"
"Gotcha!" Chloe left for a moment and came back with a small-looking container filled with various colorful hairclips and bobby pins.
I smiled and decided to hug them out of thankfulness. What can I do without these two? Mackenzie just glared at us in disappointment and looked away.
Thankfully, Chloe and Zoey had ideas on how to improvise my gigantic large shirt. I managed to NOT look like a blob of ulginess :) !!
I then started to talk about that Brandon has invited us to his birthday party, then that Mackenzie rumour. Chloe and Zoey responded with enthusiasm and even though they know they're invited, they're STILL excited! For the rumour though, they didn't know if they should believe it or not but they did have a clear depiction of the CCP from another school.
"Oo! Oo! I remember some of the CCPs saying that they'd KILL for her natural emerald-like eyes!!" Chloe remembered and got excited.
"And the way she styled her brunette hair was AWESOME!" Zoey beamed.
Chloe then decided to whisper. "I've heard her fashion style is simple yet classy, clean yet attractive. Some even say her voice is an angel's!"
We got so caught up talking about this mystery CCP from another school that I did several drawings of her in class! They loved all of them and we kept mixing and matching pieces from the drawings we liked.
The Holiday on Ice show is actually a big thing, only students from grade eight to twelve can join to raise money for their favourite charity. The show donates $3,000 to every charity that a skater, skating pair or group sponsors.
The three of us were gonna do warm-up exercises but then Chloe had this bizzare look in her eyes and did her usual jazz hands.
"Hey, you guys! Guess what I'm thinking!"
But I already new. Lately, she's been obsessed with this new book called The Ice Princess by this author, I.C. Cold.
It's about a girl and a guy who have been best friends forever and fall in love.
She's planning to be a world-class figure skater and he works hard to have a place at the Olympic hockey team.
Just as they're about to like each other romantically, they find out that their ice arena is the hidden hideout of the Deadly Ice Vambies, half-vampire and half-zombie beings whose supernatural ice-skating abilities grow more and more stronger each time they eat a double bacon cheese burger.
I don't know HOW that makes any sense, but it does.
Hey, I know zombies eat human flesh and vampires drink human blood. Did they decide to eat something else that was more beneficial to them without having the risk of an unpleasant exposure in public?
As I knew it, Chloe and Zoey were daydreaming their life as the main character.
Chloe said as her head was still stuck in the clouds. "There is no reason why WE can't be Ice Princesses too! Just like Crystal Coldstone!"
Personally, I could think of TWO very good reasons why we COULDN'T be like Crystal.
First, we haven't been training with a pesonal skating coach for the past twelve years. Second, it's going to be really hard slaying Deadly Ice Vambies during school nights and still get our homeworks complete on time.
Then they totally gushed about their fantasies and said that we're all going to skate in a group.
I backed out, saying that having a charity depending on us was a HUGE responsibility. What if something went wrong along the way?
They then argued that they helped me during the talent show as my back-up singers. Well, they do have a point in that after all.
Finally, I gave in after they used their highly effective tactic. . .
BEGGING!!!
After that, we decided to do “A Christmas Carol” since it was something people knew already. And we had lots of fun debating on which one of us is the ghost of the Past, Present and Future!!
Then I got Brandon's invite in my locker later that day!! SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!
It was SO sweet!! Each invite has been personally crafted for the person's personality! Here's how it works.
There's a colored card in the locker (Mine happens to be lavender! Which is my FAVOURITE color!!) and inside it is a nice photo of the invited person, along with either a part of a poem or song lyrics that the invited will obviously like in his own handwriting.
Here's how mine went, I got a poem!!! Chloe and Zoey had song lyrics when they got theirs as well, LUCKY ME!
Now I'm getting severe RCS!!!!!
I think I gushed way too much over the invite because Mackenzie was evilly eye-balling me from the corner of my eye when we were at our lockers.
Eat your heart out, Mackenzie!!
OMG! You'll never believe what happened next!!
I actually forgot that Cecilia Summers was going to my school today :( !
I was outside WCD all by myself, in a nearby bus stop in my winter gear and suddenly I see two figures from a distance looking straight at me.
One was taller and the other one was shorter, I couldn't tell what they were doing besides slowly walking their way to me.
Talk about CREEPY! And Stranger Danger too!!
I froze there, standing like a deer in the headlights staring at them too. They were wearing dull fur coats, winter boots and winter pants but they managed to look unrecognizable.
Suddenly, once they were near me, they instantly pulled off their hoods to reveal their faces.
The tall girl had a soft smile and fair skin, she had sparkling green eyes like precious gems, her brown hair was in a cool braid and she was wearing fuzzy ear muffs. She looked so friendly!!
The short girl had a serious "let's-get-on-with-this-thing-I-got-better-things-to-do" look on her face, she had caramel eyes that strictly meant business! She didn't have a smile like the other girl, she had a sneer.
"Man, it's cold out here today. Right, Nikki Maxwell?" The second girl forced a friendly smile and I instantly knew who she was.
My jaw dropped. I couldn't believe what I saw. "C-Cecilia Summers?! OMG! A pleasure to meet you!"
She nodded and made a pleasant smile with her lips closed. She showed me her badge and license that she is, indeed, an actual detective despite being two years older than me.
And apparently, I found out that I spelled her first name wrong! Whoops!!
"Meet my friend, Vanessa Shellenberger, she'll be with us in helping the investigation." She gestured to her friend and Vanessa waved at me friendly-like.
I had a feeling that both Vanessa and Cecila were professionals but Vanessa's more friendlier and Cecila's more strict.
We talked about ourselves as we naturally explored the school. I showed them the way and the duo took mental notes based on the way they looked.
I found out that Cecila became a detective because her parents were murdered at a party when someone burnt the place down.
She used this as an inspiration to search for the truth before. Since nobody wanted to find out the motive behind the arsony.
So she find out that her parents were murderers as well, it also ddin't help that the parents killed the murder's special someone. Ouch :( !!!
I told her I'm sorry for asking that but she said she didn't mind.
Then it was Vanessa's turn, she happened to live with her aunt while her rich parents and her little brother lived in Australia, never seeing them in personal.
I asked further why she wasn't with them and she replied that her aunt was childless but didn't want to adopt any orphans. Then I get a glimpse of how problematic her aunt was and really wanted a child of her own.
When her baby brother was born and she was two years old. Her parents noticed that the aunt became more and more reliable. So they gave Vanessa to her and have not regretted anything since except not being with her as she grew.
Her voice sounded so clear and calming, even if she whispers, it's like she's talking in her usual tone.
So it was my turn and I talked about me and my family. We then chattered on and on about school, how to deal with it and then Cecila asked me.
"Nikki, you still remember when that girl gave you the fake tuition bill?"
"Yeah, it's just this November."
"Specifically?"
"November 13 on a Wensday."
"What time?"
"When I just went home, around this very hour. I usually have to ride a bus on the way there, sometimes I walk."
"Do you have it with you?"
"Yep!"
I opened my bag and found that paper in between all of my junk. She took one quick glance then showed it to Vanessa, she looked at it, took her phone out and silently caught a photo.
Then Cecila saw that I kept the paper in its best condition possible. "Mind if we keep this for a while? You'll get it back tomorrow, if you're wondering what we'll do with this. We'll make photocopies as back-up, make sure the original is safe with you."
"Uhm, sure!" I let her take the paper and she smiled once more.
We went around the school lockers once more then me and Cecila talked about the sharpness of the mind.
I have admit, that conversation BLEW my mind! She was a total nerd! In a good way!!
Then I got so caught up in our chatter that I didn't notice we made our way into the room where only certain students could go. The official records room.
Cecila and Vanessa went silent and looked around the place carefully. Vanessa took out her phone again and spun around taking a photo, she also looked fabulous while doing it!
Wait. . .
Is Vanessa. . . ?
OMG!!! I HAVE TO ASK HER TOMORROW!
WHY DIDN'T I SEE THIS COMING :( ??!!
At least she'll come back tomorrow! Then I can ask her!
Anyway, Cecila told Vanessa to get her gear out and start her forensic science thing.
I CANNOT BELIEVE ALL OF THOSE THINGS FIT INTO HER DESIGNER BAG!!! EVEN IF IT WAS A BACPACK!
SERIOUSLY. . . !!!
IT. WAS. INSANE!
First was the usual vials and vial stand, then she got out her chemicals in plastic containers, then her set of disposable gloves, then those slim glass things when you get samples in a neat plastic case. She also got her cotton balls, I wasn't bothered by this.
But then I sneak a peak in her bag and see her LOADS of organized schoolwork!! There was a big notebook, several books, a classy pencilcase and two full brown folders in it that it looked like they were about to explode! Lest I forget that she had two pairs of ice skates with her!
I was shocked and breathless in seeing how well organized her bag was.
It look liked it was in order and it was so scaringly fixed in place that I didn't dare to touch it. Because if I did, I felt the whole thing would fall apart!
I actually shuddered and took a few steps back in case I ever plan on touching it.
Cecila let me stay on how they did their investigation. Vanessa poured in a dose of a certain chemical on a cotton ball and applied it to all of the metal shelves.
I have to admit, that chemical STUNG my nose when it got out of the bottle and into the air!
Cecila actually told the WCD janitor and guard that she's coming with a forensic scientist somewhere around the weekend and they agreed. That way, nobody will get suspicious on what's going on.
Then she noticed the chemicals change, revealing multiple fingerprints all over it.
Vanessa called Cecila over and she did. She was told to put on the gloves and inspect all of the documents in the metal shelves. This went on for a while until the clue hit them, even though it seemed like they were effortlessly breezing through the pages.
"Cecila, I've got it." Vanessa turned around with a happy smile and she muttered under her breath. She was standing at a certain locker near the desk.
Cecila went forward and inspected it. "This is it, the fingerprints! They match with Jessica's!"
I can barely believe what I was hearing!! Then Vanessa pulled out a blank version of the tuition bill that she sent me and I can feel my smile grow bigger!
Before I met them, I had several ideas of what Cecila Summers was like and it never crossed my mind that the CCP from another school was right in front of me!
Now I do, and they're all amazing prodigies on what they excel in!
After the investigation, we chatted further outside WCD and Vanessa made me ice skate with her. Cecila just watched us from afar, in case anything happened.
There, I found out how TERRIBLE I was at ice skating!
JUST GREAT :( !
OMG! My poor behind would have bruises if Vanessa hadn't supported me!!
Vanessa was gracefully gliding around the iced lake with precision and style that she beat Crystal Coldstone in her own game!
She was like . . . A FALLEN SNOW ANGEL!
And I was there, somewhat able to stand up like . . . A FREAK STATUE!
But I'm not jealous of her or anything. Like, how juvenile would THAT be?
We walked all the way to my house and we talked about several topics. We talked about winter survival to favorite books to witiness to school projects to body shapes and to love lives!
I found out several things about Vanessa more than Cecila. Cecila wasn't willing to spill more about herself more than Vanessa was.
One, she knew way more than Cecila had. Which is shocking information because Cecila was the one that proposed the topic!! She's so smart!
Two, she's strictly firm in her religion. (Her favourite books are pretty varied but her top one is the Bible.) She's a Christian, like me, but then she explains the different branches of Christianity and only one of them is true.
Three, she prefers total logic rather than wit. Wittiness is nice, but logic is what really comes into play in the discussion.
Four, she actually reminded me to read Moby Dick and teach me the importance of pacing! Since the book had a huge number of chapters, she suggested that I read three chapters a day if my willpower is high and one if it's weak.
I also found out that she's an honour student! I was shocked, but that explained all of the other stuff in her bag. Hey, who said CCPs can't be smart?
She's REALLY organized! After the walk, she plans to meet up with her fellow student council members and give our her ideas, after that she'll work with Andrew and then give him the files that he needed for the information of the thesis his older sister required. Then she'll exercise in her house and read the Bible and then go around town with her friends until 7 PM.
I wish I can be like that too, hanging out with my friends after school on school days!
Five, she admitted that she had an hour glass figure and she noticed that Cecila had pear one. When I asked her what mine was, I got a brick!
Yes! Apparently, there's a body shape named after a piece of a building block!!
She also told me to wear a certain set of clothing and colors to fit my figure and compliment my complexion. And that lip gloss is okay but I needed a better shade.
I actually didn't feel insulted! I felt like she was helping me in. . . EVERYTHING!
Come to think of it, that might explain why I dreamt myself wearing a chocolate bar costume . . .
Maybe.
Six, I find out that there's this guy who's been crushing on her but she sadly doesn't like him back. She says that he's a great guy, an excellent dancer and skater too but romance is not her style and she'd rather be friends with him.
Poor Jonas :( !! Don't worry, bro. We've all been FRIENDZONED before!
Then we came at a halt when they saw my house . . . and that ugly roach van.
Just when I thought my day was going swell!!!
They told me that they knew I was in WCD because of my dad rewarded with the scholarship thing. Vans (that's Vanessa's nickname) told me that I shouldn't be embarrased of that thing and be grateful of what I have.
Well, secret's out then! Keeping any knowledge anything away from these two is FUTILE. Period.
I told them farewell and so did they, Vans looked so cheery and Cecila contented.
My family noticed that I seemed well today and honestly, I AM!
Oh crud!! Gotta read Moby Dick now!
