1 - Welcome to America, we speak American.
Monday, March 1
I can't believe there's a new girl at Westchster Country Day! And she was definitely not what I was expecting, but then again, I'm getting ahead of myself.
"Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Nikki, wake up! WAKE UUUUUUP!"
Thump. Thump. Thump. With each bounce, I could hear my bed creaking and moaning as to why it was being abused this way. "BRIANNA!!! GET OFF OF MY BED!!! MOOOOMMM!!!" I buried my head deeper into my comforters and tried to get a couple of extra z's.
"C'mon, Nikki," I heard my mom's cheerful voice chirp through my comfy blanket. "It's Monday, meaning a whole new week to begin!"
Ugh. Mondays. Always bringing sadness to the week. It's so annoying. I finally got up, groaning, and rubbed my eyes, glancing at the clock.
Wait a minute, was that clock right? Shoot! It was literally half an hour before school starts! I quickly changed and ran downstairs, eating a quick breakfast. Right as I was heading out, my dad called out, "Hey, I'm taking you two to school in the van, remember?"
No!!! NOT THE ROACH VAN!!! Why must life hate me so?
===
"Dad, can you please hurry up?!" I anxiously stared out the window as we drove to school. I was humiliated. Seriously, that roach was so annoying, and I was so embarrassed. I didn't want to be late today, especially since Zoey and Chloe wanted to tell me something important.
The light finally turned green, and my dad grinned as he turned the wheel. "Don't worry! I'll get you there on time!" He started speeding down the street.
"Oh my gosh, DAD! WE'RE GOING TO CRASH!?!" I gripped onto the arm rests, but Brianna seemed like she was enjoying it. She and Miss Penelope were having a whole conversation the whole time.
"Please fasten your seatbelts, because this is a bullet train in Italy. The fastest train in the world, it can reach up to speeds of 100,000 miles per minute!" Miss Penelope was informing Brianna.
"The bullet train is in Japan!" I corrected her, my face pale. "And it's not that fast!" But at the moment, it did feel like a bullet train. A COCKROACH BULLET TRAIN.
Suddenly, Brianna screamed, "Watch out, Daddy!"
He slammed on the brakes, just in time, because there was someone who had leaped back. Dad had driven up the curb and almost hit someone. "Oh my gosh, are you all right?" I got out of the van quickly to go see who it was.
A girl around my age was sitting on the sidewalk, as if she had just fallen over. "Haha," she shakily laughed, "Man, that was extreme..." She was a petit girl, and it seemed that Dad had missed her, but she looked a bit shaken. She rubbed the back of her head a bit, looking up at me with a little smile. "I'm fine, thank you~" Glancing at her purple watch, she suddenly looked worried. "Oh, no, I'll be late for my first day!" Hastily the waist-length black haired girl got up and picked up her bag. "Sorry, but I have to go!"
"W-Wait!" I tried to stop her, but she ran away.
"Hurry up, Nikki!" my dad honked the horn, startling me, and I quickly hopped back into the car.
===
As soon as I got to school, I couldn't wait to tell my BFFs about what had happened. "We almost ran her over!" I groaned.
"Speaking of which, there's a rumor about a new girl at school! And apparently, she knows MacKenzie!" Chloe suddenly bubbled. "I hope it's not another MacKenzie, though!"
"Right! That'd be double the trouble," Zoey frowned, shifting her books into her other arm.
"Ugh. Anyways, I have to head to history now, so I'll see you guys later!" I called, running to my locker quickly to grab my history book. And look who was at her locker next to mine? What a lucky day.
"Ew. I'm suddenly having a vision of Nikki next to me at her locker," her beady, ice blue eyes glared at me as she spat those words.
"Well, you should get your vision checked then," I quickly quipped back at her, running to class. I could hear her growl as I walked away and couldn't help but chuckle a bit. Serves her right.
===
Two classes had already passed, and I hadn't seen that alleged 'new girl'. Hopefully it was just a rumor and I didn't have to worry about two MacKenzies.
I was about to walk into biology, when I almost bumped into the guy in front of me. I was going to say, "Hey, watch it!" but realized that it was...
"Brandon! Hey!" I had a goofy grin on my face as I fidgeted with my books.
"Oh, hey, Nikki," his smile made my legs turn into jello. "Sorry, I was in your way, wasn't I?"
"N-No! It's fine, I should have watched where I was going," I insisted, taking a step back.
"Ah, but ladies first," the brunette grinned with a laugh, opening the door wider. Isn't he a cutie or what?
I tried not to look too dorky as I walked into the classroom, but then I almost tripped over another student's foot. Mumbling an apology with a cheezy grin, I quickly made my way to my seat. I'm so glad that it was biology. I mean, after all, guess who was my partner? You guessed it, Brandon!
And, just my luck, the principal decided to walk in to stop this boring lecture! But...someone was following him in. "Class," Principal Winston caught our attention, "This is our new transfer student, Jadyn Jin Zhang. She recently moved here from France, so please, welcome her and make her feel at home for these next two months."
"Bonjour. It is nice to meet you." Wait...was that...a British accent?
Wait a minute...she looks familiar...Then it suddenly hit me. An eraser. "Hey, watch it," I hissed to the person behind me who was stupid enough to throw an eraser at my head. All I got back in response was a couple of sniggers and giggles.
"Jadyn," the bio teacher smiled, "Please take a seat right there, by Brandon Roberts. Brandon, raise your hand?"
I couldn't help but squint at that new girl. Then...it really hit me. Not the eraser this time. She was that girl! The one from this morning Dad almost ran over! And now...she was sitting next to my crush?! Not cool!
I couldn't help but cringe and glare at that girl. Of all the empty seats in the room, the teacher just HAD to choose that one. "Calm down, Maxwell," I said in my head. "You don't even know this girl yet. She hasn't done anything supsicious yet...right?"
I turned to take a peek at her, and what is she doing? She's looking at Brandon and smiling! And he was smiling back?! ARGH! That isn't fair!
So finally, the bell rang, and I couldn't wait to give that girl a piece of my mind when I caught my foot in her chair, and our bags went flying - her messenger bag and my backpack.
"Are you all right?" the girl immediately turned towards me with...with a concerned look in her eyes? And then she started helping me pick up my things. But it was hurriedly because the teacher was leaving. "I'm so sorry about my chair being in the way," she rubbed the back of her head apologetically.
"No, well, I'm just a bit clumsy," I muttered, looking away. This wasn't what I planned. But I tried to smooth things out with her first. "I'm Nikki, Nikki Maxwell, by the way," I introduced myself as we exited the classroom.
"It's really nice to meet you," Jadyn smiled, her dark green eyes lighting up. "I think I've seen you before somewhere..." she scratched her cheek, thinking.
I cringed, the morning's escapade flashing before my eyes. "Well...my dad almost ran over you, sorry."
"Oh, I see," the ravenette laughed a bit. "That makes sense. Well, I think I have to get to my next class now. And my guide's waiting for me." She waved as she walked off.
I smiled a bit, thinking that she was an okay girl...until I saw who her guide was. He was waiting by the lockers, all his books in his arms. When Jadyn caught up, I saw him turn around. "B-BRANDON?!" my mind was screaming.
And then I looked down at the book in my hands and realized...
...THIS WASN'T MY DIARY!?!
Yep. I guess that I accidentally switched books with Jadyn during biology, since this book I was holding was purple with a weird foreign symbol on the bottom corner. That's when I started freaking out as I ran to class.
I barely made it in time for my class before lunch, but I couldn't help but feel curious but take a peek inside of the book. Yeah, so what? I wasn't snooping around or a- Yeah, I kind of was, but there wasn't much to see. Just a lot of drawings, photos of scenery - which were pretty amazing, by the way - and some writing/scribbling. I didn't really look too deep into it. But I did happen to look at this check list.
☑ Get to America
☑ Go to WCD
☑ Meet up w/ Brandon and Co.
...
Who was Co. anyways? I can't help but have this peculiar feeling about her...a not-so-happy feeling. I took lunch time to see if my suspicions were correct or not.
By the time I got to the lunch area with Chloe and Zoey, the place is so packed I can barely see my feet. "Oh, I think she's over there!" Chloe excitedly pointed her finger at a lone figure at a table.
Now I hated to admit it, but it wasn't right for her to be alone. Wasn't she new? And despite my gut-feeling about her, I couldn't help but pity her...until Mackenzie walked up to her. It seemed like they were having a pretty lengthy conversation. I decided to walk up after the notorious blonde left, which Chloe and Zoey agreed since they knew me well.
"Hey, Jadyn," Zoe was the first one to pipe up as she started eating her sandwich. "I heard you're from out of country?"
Jadyn looked up from her lunch and smiled, nodding. I noticed she was eating...rice and some side dish? Wait a minute...
French background + British-ish accent + Asian lunch = ...?
"Well, I just moved here from Britain actually, and my parents are French and Chinese," Jadyn chirped, balancing her chopsticks. "I took up my mum's surname because it's pretty~"
Typical rich kid.
Which reminded me..."Oh, here. I think we switched books by accident earlier," I pulled out her purple book.
"Oh, great! Someone found it! Merci! I was a bit worried about that," she took the book gleefully. "And I gave your book to Brandon in case he saw you before I did. Don't worry. We didn't take a look in the book at all."
SHE. DID NOT. JUST GIVE MY DIARY. TO MY CRUSH.
I was in my total freak-out mode when someone chuckled behind me. "Well, but it seems like you found her first." I turned around and came face to face with...
"B-Brandon!" I immediately started blushing. I was having RCS (roller coaster syndrome) mentally. SQUEEEE!!! :D
"Here's your book," he gave it to me with that cute smile of his. I thought my knees would turn into jello and I would faint! I felt like now wasn't the time to tell Jadyn that I peeked in her book, so I just said nothing and basked in the glory of Brandon's radiant smile.
"Man, Brandon, Theo, I was looking for you guys," Jadyn was piping up. "Where'd you guys go? Horrible guides."
"Haha, sorry. We went to the lockers and got stuck in a crowd," Theo apologized with a grin, sitting down next to me. And officially blocking me from Brandon. Grrr...
So Chloe and Zoey started talking and ranting about Miss Teller's test today, and we all started talking. So today wasn't that bad...despite the fact that THE CRUSH-STEALER GAVE MY DIARY TO BRANDON. Hopefully, she won't be as annoying as Mackenzie, because if she did...I'd go crazy!
What else happened? Well, the rest of the day went by without a hitch, and Mom told me I don't have to babysit Brianna and Oliver because her friend's daughter offered to do it, which is great! That means I can hang out at the mall with Zoey and Chloe, as planned! Hope the peaceful days stay...
