It was a nice beautiful day at the Wilson's household. Emily, a 10-year old girl, was sitting in bed waiting for her turn in the bathroom. Her mother, Cassandra, was giving George the Pug a bath. George the Pug had to be cleaned for his appointment with the vet. He had been acting very strange for the past two weeks, always barking at curtains and whimpering whenever someone shut a door. After dropping George at the vet, Mrs. Wilson and Emily went to eat some pizza at the new pizzeria. It was packed in the new pizzeria, so Mrs. Wilson even stifled in a little prayer when they got a table right away . They ordered the special, extra cheesy, saucy, and delicious. They chose some mushrooms, pepperoni, bell peppers and a little bit of parmesan cheese to top it all off. Boy was it delicious! Emily loved this pizzeria for many different reasons. The place itself was nicely decorated, and the kitchen always had a scrumptious smell coming from deep inside. The most important reason was that her father had worked in the old one before the tragic accident. She wasn't shy about talking of her father's death. In her mind, he was the biggest hero ever. She was devastated of course and it still left a huge hole in her heart, but she was in awe of her father's bravery.
Her dad was at work early as always when his boss, Sheryll, appeared in his office smiling.
He said, "Well, you're here early as usual Bill! I've been thinking to give you a reward. So today, you can have a free day off, just today. I'm sure I can find a replacement."
Bill was speechless, "Uh.. well um, th-thanks!"
Sheryll found a person named Volt, a hard-working man. He keeps to himself and can act mysterious at times. Well, he works nicely and gets the job done, she thought. Little did he know that he had hired death itself.
Emily didn't know exactly what Sheryll thought, so how did she know? Ah, who cares? Meanwhile, Bill decided to grab some food at the pizzeria. He stopped by the pet store to buy some food and supplies for George the Pug. He purchased the items and headed to his car. He drove to the pizzeria when he heard a high-pitched scream.
"AHHHRGGGCKKK!"
It was the most inhumane sound he had ever heard in his life. All of a sudden, he felt an urge deep inside him to help that poor victim. Then he realized that he was closing his eyes the entire time. When he opened them, the sight made his heart skip a beat.
The entire pizzeria was on fire. Not just any fire though, green fire. It was melting the place down as if it was acid, and there was an innocent person stuck inside howling in agony. Bill was either feeling very brave or he went insane, because he ran into the blazing inferno. Flames shot out everywhere and the ceiling was falling apart. He finally found the person bleeding, looking like roadkill, but still making that piercing cry.
Out of the corner of his eye, Bill thought he saw a shadow moving. He dismissed any thought about it though, and rushed toward the person. Carefully, he picked the person up with some oven mitts and dragged him out. He threw him out the door because he was afraid of getting burned himself. Beads of sweat dripped down his face, and his eyes were tearing from too much exposure from the smoke. As Bill made his way to the door, his leg got stuck and he fell down. The chair leg that he supposedly tripped on made a slight movement. Soon, it was crawling up his leg and searing him. Then he noticed four little finger nubs on the 'chair leg' hand. In a matter of minutes, a humanoid was standing before him. It was completely black, with gray smoke surrounding him, and he had a name tag on his torso: Volt. Then the humanoid wiped his tag with black withered hands, and revealed his true name, Voltrex.
Bill's vision went black, and he heard voices singing to him.
"I wanted revenge, now I will get it," snarled an eerie voice.
Then some images flash through his mind; first gnashing teeth, after that some minion demons, and finally a little baby crying in her crib.
"Do you know her Bill? Her name is Emily, and she is my next victim. You couldn't possibly know where she is now, could you?"
The voice laughed a wretched laugh and lifted his finger. He stabbed Bill right through the heart and watched him as he entered the void.
Emily's thought were interrupted by a flickering light. Lights always bothered Emily. Either they were on or they were off, there shouldn't be in between! But these lights had red eyes. They stared at Emily, and she heard the door whispering something.
"BOO!"
All the lights went off, and the people in the new pizzeria were frightened. But all Emily heard were voices saying, "... she is going to die a slow painful death. Poor girl, she has a great soul just like her father, don't you think?" The whispering stopped, and the lights came back on. A man in a nice suit came to the front of the room.
"Sorry everyone," he said. "This new facility will have some getting used to. You have my sincere apologies." Emily watched him disappear behind a tall pile of dirty plates before the double doors finally swung shut. Emily thought about what she had just heard.
"Mom, did you hear something?" Emily asked.
"The manager just announced-" Cassie started.
"Besides that?" Emily interrupted. Cassandra looked at her daughter.
"Is that any way to speak to your mother, Emily?" She scolded.
"Sorry Mother." Emily apologized. "But I really gotta know."
"Well, apology accepted. And I didn't hear anything at all sweetheart." Cassandra said.
It couldn't have been real, her mind was playing tricks on her again. It felt so real, though! She had some thinking to do when they got home.
When Mrs. Wilson pulled into their driveway, Emily raced out of the car, kicked off her shoes, and ran into her room. She closed the door, and flopped onto her bed, looking at the ceiling and thinking. Her mom came in and said that she had an emergency at the hospital so she had to be there a while. She called in her sister and got Emily settled before she left.
Her aunt had to run to the bathroom leaving Emily alone in the living room. She found the T.V. remote and caught up on some movies on Netflix. When her aunt, Aunt Rose, came back, she exclaimed,
"Oh my dear! You must be freezing! You're shivering like a pogo stick, let me close those windows. I must've opened them before I went to the bathroom." Emily didn't realize that the windows were opened. Windows at the Wilson house were always closed.
There's no way that Aunt Rose opened the windows, I was here waiting here for her the whole time. Could it be the.. no no.
"Stop thinking like that Emily!" Emily scolded herself for thinking such ridiculous thoughts. Emily was on her way to her room upstairs when she noticed some markings on the wall. She got a closer look and tried to decipher the words written.
Revenge... cursed... doomed... death.
What? She wiped off the marking to remove any excess dust or dirt on the marking. Aunt Rose came over from the kitchen to check on her. "Oh no Em! Did you cut yourself? Splinter maybe? I'll get a bandage." Emily realized that the markings has been written in blood. She shuddered and ran to her room to change. She assured Aunt Rose that she was okay, and that a bandage would be fine. She was tired from all the thinking and stress so she went to sleep.
The next day, Auntie told Emily that school was canceled for some teacher conference and her mother had to stay at the hospital for some time. Emily was okay with that, Mom had been in a situation like this before. It happened... when her dad died. "How do you know that? Could it be-Stop thinking like that Emily. It must be unhealthy for you, plus it doesn't help!" she told herself. All of a sudden, she had an urge to go outside to the park. She told Aunt Rose she wanted to go to the park.
"What a great idea, Em!" she said. "It's a great day out. Lots of sunshine, nice breezes. It'll be nice to exercise a bit."
So Aunt Rose went to get a small sweater and ran outside with Emily to the park. Emily kept wondering why she wanted to go to the park, but she managed to convince herself that she just wanted to stretch her legs after being inside so long.
Yeah, that's it, she thought. Her aunt went to jog around the perimeter, and left Emily under the supervision of her friend, Julia and her mother. They were playing together on the swings and chased each other around the slides. Julia went to her mom to get a drink, and Emily went to the water fountain near the gazebo. When she pressed the button, it wouldn't work.
Huh, she thought. That's really weird. In the back of her mind, she couldn't help but think that this had to do with the thing that wanted her dead. Still, she dismissed the thought and borrowed some water from Julia's mom.
"Thank you, Mrs. Green!" she said after a nice gulp of water.
"No problem dearie! It's very strange for the water fountain to not be working. Must be a pipeline problem or something" Mrs. Green replied. She kept silent while deep in thought. Could this girl possibly be the one I've had in my dreams? She did have some strange things happen for the past few days for some deranged reason. And her father was very tragically killed, but was it really an accident or had someone caused it?
You see, Mrs. Green had been very good friends with Emily's father. They worked in the same place. A few weeks before he died, she had terrible nightmares about a demonic thing. He would always be looking toward the Wilsons's house. Mrs. Green tried to warn the family, but she couldn't talk. Her body was just floating in the air. Then the demon looked her way, and she was trapped in his eyes. She literally got sucked into his eyes and heard voices.
"How do you think we should kill him?"
"WITH A SPOON!!!"
"No one asked you Fred, get a life."
"We're dead people how do we-"
"You know what I mean. So, you think we should just knock?''
"Come on. Don't be a boring person. Something draumatic!"
"But not too draumatic. Then people would suspect things."
Right then, Mrs. Green saw a room full of demons. All of them had human frames, but were dark colors, with smoke coming off their bodies. The head of the table was not there. All the demons turned and looked at her. Then they went back to their conversations.
"Well, I guess we could-
This demon got interrupted by the creaking of a door. The person who entered the door sat at the head of the table.
"'Sup Volt. Killed anything lately?"
"I have been plotting new ways to kill the girl."
"That's great! I was thinking we should take a spoon from Aunt Margrette's silverware shelf and-"
"I know how I will kill her, thank you very much Fred."
A couple of demons snickered while Fred sat down sulking.
"Volt, can we have a little bit of fun with her? You totally ruined the last time. Please?"
Volt shuddered when he heard about last time.
"I know you all want to get out of this dump, but if we are going to cause pain, it should be physical."
"Everyone knows that emotional pain is the worst!"
"No way! Just because you kill people by making them commit suicide, it doesn't mean we all have to John. Or do you want me to say your real name?"
"NO REAL NAMES!!" Screamed Volt. "We have a fragile life in our midst, don't we Amanda?"
Mrs. Green was listening to this conversation for a while, so it took a bit of time to register that the demon called Volt was addressing her. She opened her mouth to speak, when all the demons except for one crazy looking one, shook there heads desperately saying no. I wonder why? she thought. Volt looked at her for a good three seconds before slowly answering her questions.
"We are demons Amanda. We can talk, chill, and do whatever here. That includes reading your mind. The only thing we can't do is kill you-" A few sighs here. "-but you on the other hand can do nothing but watch. So shut up and listen. Look at the walls.''
And with that, Volt exited the room while the other demons erupted in conversation.
Amanda, Mrs. Green that is, was surprised that the demon knew her maiden name. Now it was Reilly. Amanda was in the past, a dead personality that will hopefully never return.
And then she would wake up, failing to go back to sleep. The next night, her dream would continue from where it left off.
The demons were more quieter this time. They looked as if they expected her to be there.
"Did you forget that we're demons already Amanda? We know almost everything about you, and you are here for a reason. So... I guess we're going to see the walls guys."
"WE ARE OFF TO GRANDMA'S HOUSE!!!!!!!"
"SHUT UP FRED!" Everyone screamed.
"Okay okay, just trying to lighten up the mood here."
"Whatever."
They were finally at a house that looked like a hut from a storytale. Maybe Fred wasn't that off...
"HA!! SEE?? EVEN THE WOMAN THINKS I'M RIGHT!!! WHAT IS WRONG WiTH Y'ALL???????"
"..... you are not southern, don't talk like that...."
"Clean your eyes. Take off the blinds. See the truth!"
"Alright, that's enough Fred. We gotta begin the ritual."
"Alright Sam. You are the 'boss' after all."
The demons stood in a circle around the house and started chanting. After about 3 and a half minutes, they abruptly stopped, and the house begun to turn. Amanda's stomach was churning, her head was feeling dizzy, and she could feel her body temperature rising. The demons' bodies were changing. Their eyes were glowing red, and the smoke surrounding their bodies was getting thicker and thicker. The bodies were becoming more and more transparent until they were barely visible to the naked eye. Then Amanda was brought to... nowhere. It was white in every direction. Then demons started coming through black holes, almost rips, in the seamless white. Walls started forming, walls with human ghost on them. Each ghost had a profile picture, and a long wall section dedicated to his/her death. Amanda noticed that each person looked kind of similar to each other. Almost as if- she gasped. This whole house, no mansion, was dedicated to the deaths of a family. A family she knew all too well. The Wilsons. Each ghost moaned through the walls, but the only sound coming was the demons. Laughing at some deaths, criticizing others, and even recreating some! Then Volt entered the room, and everyone became silent. He must be the leader of this group, Amanda thought. Volt looked at his surroundings, nodded, and started walking towards Amanda.
"If you know what is good for you," he said, "You would probably wake up now."
"Yea, before the gory, violent, blood-gushing, organ-splattering, brain dissecting, horror-stricken, screaming, very awesome reality." Fred-no, someone who looked like Fred, said.
"Thanks for giving her that image, George."
So George is the, um, violent one. Or maybe down to business. Or maybe he is that creepy guy of the group. Amanda thought. Fred is the funny one. Sam is the one who tries to be like a good leader. And Volt-he is definitely on of the top people. All the demons were debating about whether or not to tell Amanda there names.
"Everyone stop. There's no point. She will forget most of this anyway." Volt said aloud.
Everyone groaned, and they started talking quietly to each other while Volt looked at the stairs.
"Zlatan, bring Amanda upstairs." Volt said.
"Yeah, be a good little boy, lil' bro! Ha!"
A small demon who couldn't be over 10 years old walked out of the demon group. He slowly glided toward Amanda.
I am sorry, Amanda thought. Having siblings like that, well assuming that he is you brother, can be harsh.
The demon boy spoke with a sigh, "It's alright. I'm used to it by now. The other demons more or less pay attention."
He grabbed Amanda by the hand and dragged her upstairs. The rest of the demons were smiling, if you could call it that, as they watched the boy and Amanda go up. Then the stairs vanished and Amanda could hear small whispers of talk. The walls upstairs were pretty blank, thankfully. But these walls were filled with some blue stories. Like Amanda's own body, and unlike the stories downstairs.
Either they didn't happen, or they were suppose to happen. Amanda realized.
"JONATHAN!!!! BRING THE WOMAN DOWNNN!!!" A voice yelled.
"Okay." Jonathan replied in a whisper.
Apparently everyone heard because the stairway opened, and they were all looking expectantly at Amanda as she came down. She noticed that Volt wasn't there.
Where could he be? She wondered.
"In a far away place." And older demon said quietly. "A far FAR away place."
All of the demons scoffed at her, but others were genuinely scared. Just then Sam, the demon that lead her here, stood up and told everyone to settle down.
Just then all of their eyes glowed bright red, and black smoke started coming out of there mouths and creating a cloud at the top of the room. After about three minutes, the cloud started coming towards Amanda. She was frightened and tried to move, but she was stuck to the ground with fear.
No, not fear, this is probably the demon's doing.
The black smoke cloud surrounded her, and she began seeing a bright light. Then her surroundings became more familiar until she realized she was in her bed. Mr. Green was holding her in his arms.
"Are you alright hon?" He asked. He looked very worried, and his forehead was creased with deep wrinkles.
"I-I think I am." Mrs. Green replied shakily.
"You were screaming in your sleep. I came and held you for a few minutes, and you came to."
"Did I wake up Julia?"
"No, the poor thing was knocked out from yesterday's game. Go back to sleep. It's only 2 in the morning.''
"Okay." Mrs. Green replied. But she doubted that she would catch one wink of sleep today, or for the few day's to come.
The next day, Mrs. Green took off from her work. She went on her laptop most of the time and looked up hilutionationas. Nothing came up about demonic spirits, and she was too afraid to look up demons. The day flew by, and night fell too soon.
Amanda was back in the room filled with smoke. She saw pictures and realized the smoke was filled with ghosts! Dead Wilsons floated around her and moaned.
Then a voice said, "This is his fate."
Amanda was at her workplace. She saw that the boss had just entered, and was getting settled, when Bill came in. He smiled, they greeted and Bill got to work. She saw this same scene over a few times, when she realized that Bill came everyday 7:00 am sharp every day. One day, she saw a demon lurking in the shadows. Every day that followed, the same demon was there, at 6:59 waiting for Bill. Slowly, Amanda realized that this demon was Volt. After a week, which felt more like half an hour, Volt turned into a man. He looked, well, human. He had a tall, firm structure, very clean and neat brown hair, and big blue eyes. He walked in the workplace at 6:00, waiting for the boss. Sheryll came in, surprised at the new man in a seat, and started to talk to him. After a while, the man left, and Sheryll was left surprisingly pleased. Then the man shifted back into Volt, and waited for Bill. When Bill did come in, Sheryll told him he could have the day off. Right when those words left her lips, Volt and Amanda were racing off to the new pizzeria. Volt shifted into a human again, and took a seat next to the fireplace. He slowly leaned down and moved one the of logs inside. A few sparks went flying, but nothing major. Volt murmured something under his breath, and fire started spreading. After a few more murmurs, the fire turned green. He screamed, and disappeared, and everyone in the pizzeria ran out.
Then Amanda saw Bill in his car. He was driving toward the pizzeria when he heard a high-pitched scream.
"AHHHRGGGCKKK!"
It was the most inhumane sound he had ever heard in his life. The entire pizzeria was on fire. Not just any fire though, green fire. It was melting the place down as if it was acid, and there was an innocent person stuck inside howling in agony. Amanda saw Volt disappear into the pizzeria again and became a chair leg, but not before saying a curse on the innocent person lying on the floor.
He threw him out the front door. Amanda realized that it was Volt.
Amanda was now transported to a place where nothing was everything.
"I wanted revenge, now I will get it," snarled an eerie voice.
"Do you know her Bill? Her name is Emily, and she is my next victim. You couldn't possibly know where she is now, could you?" a voice said.
The voice laughed a wretched laugh and lifted his finger. He stabbed Bill right through the heart and watched him as he entered the void.
Amanda was frozen with fear and horror. How could anything do that?
Then she was back in the room with all the demons. They all looked at her, waiting to hear her thoughts. But Amanda was too stricken to think anything at the moment. Volt entered, and he too was looking expectantly. Amanda finally got over the initial shock,, and thought about what she had just seen. She didn't care that it was a demon, that was just wrong!
*Chuckle chuckle here*
Volt looked at her one last time, and then Amanda woke up. She only remembered bits and pieces of her nightmares for the past few days, but she knew there was a demon called Volt. She could've sworn she saw Bill too, but that was crazy. Why would she have Bill in her NIGHTMARES? No, she was probably hallucinating from the horrible nightmares. Oh well.
At that time, she hadn't known that it was all true. The smoke cloud, and Bill going into the fire. It was all true, and Amanda could've warned Bill, but as all the demons predicted, she didn't She assumed that her mind was jealous of Bill's hard work, and put the whole scene aside.
This time, she had the same nightmares but instead of Bill being the the smoke cloud, she saw a little girl. She was playing with Amanda's daughter, Julia. The girl ran of into the woods, and then a fire erupted surrounding the woods. Just as suddenly as the fire, green fire mind you, appeared, a wind came and blew the fire away, and the girl was gone. Then Mrs. Green woke up, and forgot almost everything again. But she should have made the connection of both the green fires of Bill's death, and soon to be the girl's death. Mrs. Green should have known that the demons would come back. She should have known that they were too evil to just let Bill die and be glad. She should have known that they will, and have been, going through his entire family. She should have known...
While Mrs. Green was thinking about this, Emily ran off with Julia to play some more games.
"Shall we play the game of hiding and seeking dear?" she asked in a mocking voice.
"Why that would be delightful Julia!" Emily answered in an equally mocking voice. "I will be the person of the hiding, while you shall be the person of the seeking, yes?"
Julia chuckled and said in her regular voice, "That's not how our ELA teacher talks. She would've said, "Why Julia, that is an incredible thought. And we shall make it reality, shall we? If yes, then I would propose this preposterous idea of you being the person of the hiding, while I am the person of the hiding. But of course we can play, now scat and hide. I'm not going any easier on my friend."
Emily ran scanning the playground for a good hiding spot. She ran into the woods and decided to stay there. A few minutes passed, and Emily just figured Julia was getting started on her real search. Ten minutes passed and Julia still couldn't find her.
She called out, "Em! Where are you? I give up!"
But Emily didn't answer. She knew that Julia was just joking, how many times had she done this herself? Julia must've understood that Emily was NOT going to answer so she stopped calling, and looked some more. After a while, Emily noticed that the woods were eerie and deadly silent. None of the birds chirped and none of the insects buzzed. The only sound was of her heartbeat racing faster and faster as the dread creeped into her body. Only then did she notice the smoke and yelling. Smoke? That could only mean a fire! I better get out of- she lost her thoughts when she realized that the color of the fire wasn't red. It wasn't even blue! It was... GREEN. She panicked, and felt fear overcome her. She had to get out, no question. She quickly scanned the area. There was a whole ring of green fire around the perimeter of the woods she was in, but there was a little less fire near the tire swings. If she could run fast enough to gain some momentum, she just might be able to jump out. If she didn't... well she just wouldn't think about it. She started running toward the tire swings, when she tripped on something and fell down. Her arms flailed around in the air, trying to grasp anything to help. However, it seemed that the woods just didn't want her to get out, so she fell into the moist dirt. She looked up to see if she was alright, and checked out the fallen branch that tripped her. Well, she wanted it to be a tree branch. She averted her eyes to the 'branch' and saw four little nubs sticking out. Oh no. No no no! This cannot be happenin! Not now, not to me!! Emily started kicking, but it was clear that the hand was not letting go.
All hope was lost for Emily, so she surprised herself by crying. She wept and wept, lamenting over her lost life. She expected to die already, but she just felt pain on her leg where the intruder had held her. She finally saw him, the person that had killed her father. Suddenly all her pain turned into rage. How dare he kill my father! Did he do anything? NO! And now she was doomed, but all this crazy thing did was stand there. He may even be smiling! She yelled, screamed, and scratched but to no avail. She couldn't hurt him, and both of them knew it. So she stared him in the eye, but she couldn't help but notice his whole shape. He looked... normal. He had the shape of a human, and had arms and legs, all fingers and probably toes, too. He was wearing a black shirt that said something about motorcycles or something. He had denim jeans, and great converses. He had rustled up hair, but it looked like he tried to get his hair to look like that. And his eyes, oh his eyes! They were warm, dark brown eyes. He actually looked appealing to Emily, and she caught herself many times wondering what it would be like to go to prom with him. You are amazing Emily. Think about flirting with him, while he's probably trying to figure out how to kill you! Great mind you have there. Just as she was about to say something really intelligent like, Uh.. hi?, he started talking. "Hey, you wouldn't happen to know how you want to die, could you?" His voice was so warm, and welcoming. Emily was wondering how to answer. He sounded so sincere as if he asked if she knew where the golf course is, but she knew it was all a trick. Still, she replied, "Oh, um. Yea, heh... I- well.. no?" This obviously angered him. "I traveled a whole lot of distance to come here and kill you, and know you don't even know how you want to die! How absurd of you. Oh, well. I have a great idea."
Then, he started changing into his true demon form. He became jet black, and he looked like a very twisted jellyfish with all the dark mist around him. He now had red, slanted eyes in place of those great brown eyes. His skin was more or less gone, and he was just black air, but he looked very solid to Emily. His fingers were claws that gleamed in the sunlight, and he looked like he had practice using them. Throughout this whole change, he still kept that ridiculous smile. Emily might as well as have killed herself, but having no control over her own body, probably the creature's doing, didn't help at all. The demon took her by the arms, and snapped somehow. The surroundings all changed. Instead of woody woods, she was in a dark desolate place. There was death written everywhere. It reminded Emily of where the bad lions lived in Lion King. Skulls were everywhere, and everything looked faded, like someone had worn the place itself out. "This is my home, this is what I have to live with everyday until the boss seems it fit that I can move. And I think you can help me. I have to kill you, but since you don't have any suggestions on how you want to die, I will postpone the choice. I will torture you dear. With your father, I failed. He didn't die as a honorless fool, but a proud hero. No pain at all, just that stab. I won't make that mistake ever again." Emily wondered if she could think of a slow death she could deal with. Nothing came to mind. She like avoiding the idea of death anyway. How bad could this demon torture her. She soon found out. The demon slowly cut her fingers and toes off. That was extrutiacteding pain. But it toes and fingers were hard, breaking every bone in her body was a million times worse. The demon had a terrible way of breaking bones. He cut off the skin and fat in the way, and slowly cut the bone in half. Then he sewed the skin back, and smashed the bone with a sledgehammer. It was very painful, but each time she was about to pass out, the demon vanquished the pain just so that she could suffer and NOT die. Then, he cut of the arms and legs entirely, but still gave Emily some super unnatural way of escaping death, and dealing with the pain. Emily wanted to die, but she couldn't. The blasted demon really need how to give pain, and he surely was giving it to her. The thing that was most terrible was he was enjoying her pain. Then he poured acid on her head to get rid of the hair. He wiped it clean with his hands after all the hair plus some skin was gone. The demon cut off her nose and ears, and cut her everywhere. Finally, the demon took a finger and traced her heart. He aimed, and he was great at archery, because x marked the spot. Emily Wilson was finally no more.
