"The Choice is Made"

Our group of heroes trudge through this frozen desert, snow flying around as the wind scoops it up and carries it away. They would get home faster had it not been for Zeebad running the train off the tracks with his own train with a drill fixture on the front. "I can't feel my limb..." Brian complained as he crawled along with the rest. "I agree... it's c-c-cold..." Ermintrude added, shivering as she felt her hooves grow numb from the wind and snow. "W-Well you know what they say... What doesn't kill you makes you stronger... o-or colder.." Dylan interjected, trying to cheer the group up despite the fact that he was also shivering, he couldn't feel his tail or his ears or his feet... none of them can. "Hey, look! Tracks! They're fresh, too!" Doogal barked in excitement, seeing tracks in the snow. The others rush to the tracks with their furry leader.

"Oh poor things... looks like they've been crawling..." The snail remarked, pointing out a large dip in the snow, as if something wide and flat had pushed it to either side. "They look exhausted..." Ermintrude nodded in agreement, then that's when Doogal noticed the tracks look awfully familiar. "Oh no, they're our tracks!" He cried. The others noticed as well, and they looked dejected. "We've been going around in circles with no luck of getting any closer to home! How are we gonna stop Zeebad!?" Dylan groaned and flopped back into the snow. "A-And I thought the fact I chased my tail was cute..." Doogal whined, starting to feel the cold along with the others... This cold also made each one of them collapse into a frozen slumber one by one, with Doogal being the last to fall. "No... I can't give up now... I... I have to save Florence... I have to save everyone... I promised her I'd come back..." He muttered, trying to stay awake.

"FLORENCE!" He howled into the night, hoping, praying that someone would hear and come to his rescue. But it was no use... Doogal soon felt sleep overtake his body, no matter how much he resisted. "Florence... I'm sorry..." He whimpered before his vision faded to black... but not for long... After an undetermined amount of time, Doogal shot up from the snow, his nose picking up a freezing, yet familiar scent.. He heard a spring coil and release, crunching into the white powder beneath.. Zeebad, the evil wizard who caused this wintery storm in the first place... He looked up to see the wizard and felt a growl deep in his throat. "You..." He snarled and shivered. Zeebad only chuckled, seeing the dog's predicament. "Well well, seems the little puppy can't handle the cold... And here I thought you'd be more of a threat..."

The wizard sneered, his black mustache curling sinisterly, his breath cold and foggy. "Listen... Doogal was it? I see that you're determined, and while I usually find it annoying... I sense something different in you... You actually have potential, unlike that damn wooden imbecile I left for dead..." Zeebad remarked, leaning down to the dog's level. This caused Doogal to snarl and snap his jaws towards the wizard, and Zeebad moved back just in time, he smirked at Doogal, seeing how angry the dog was. "So, I want to make a deal... Join my team-"

"And why would I join you, you damn heartless BASTARD!? You took away who I loved... YOU HURT MY FRIENDS! WHY WOULD I WANT ANYTHING TO DO WITH YOU!?" Doogal barked in anger, letting out all of his pain and frustrations out, dismissing the fact that it was his fault Zeebad was even free at all. "You know you set me free, even if it was an accident you candy ridden fleabag, and you didn't let me finish... how rude, what a bad boy..." Zeebad seemed mostly unbothered by the dog's interruption. "Now if you'll let me finish, join me and I'll set your friend free... Unless you'd rather freeze to death... and break your promise..." He sneered with a sinister grin, watching Doogal's face slowly fade from anger, to despair and a realization that Zeebad was right.... As much as Doogal hated to admit it, the wizard was right... If he had just stayed next to Florence... If he hadn't run off... None of this would have happened....

He made a promise to Florence... a promise to right his wrong... He couldn't die, not now, he was so close! So... so close... Doogal looked down, seeming to contemplate what he should do... Joining Zeebad would mean the entire world would freeze over... Refusing meant dying... and losing the only person he cared about... the only person he loved and who loved him back... "So, what do you say, Doogal?" Zeebad asked, holding out a hand to the mutt. Doogal finally looked up, and placed a shaking paw in the wizard's hand, making Zeebad's eyes light up. "Good choice, you won't regret it..." He murmured, his mustache glowing an icy blue, as a beam shot out, encasing the dog, blanketing him in a special frosty covering... keeping Doogal from freezing, but this frost had some side effects, physical changes as some of his fur turned white and his eyes changed from brown to blue... but there seemed to be another side effect...

One that wouldn't be as obvious or prevalent until later... "Now let's hop to it! To the carousel!" Zeebad commanded, bouncing off towards the carousel, Doogal followed, before turning back to his friends, still lying in the snow. "Brian... Ermintrude... Dylan... I'm so sorry..." He turned back to follow the wizard back home... Back where it all started... Doogal looked into the carousel, seeing Coral and Basil huddled up with Mr. Rusty... and there sat Florence, eyes closed... she wasn't conscious... she seemed to be in a comatose state... Zeebad noticed Doogal's despair... "I'm a wizard of my word..." He aimed his mustache and cut through the ice on the carousel, letting the two other kids and the repairman free... All while allowing Doogal to step inside and reunite with his friend.. Doogal rushed towards Florence and nudged and licked the girl, trying to wake her up...

It worked eventually as her eyes fluttered open to see her best friend on top of her. "Doogal? You came back..." She muttered, embracing the dog. "I told you, Florence.." Doogal remarked and nuzzled into Florence. Zeebad just watched in disgust, and as soon as the two parted, he blasted Florence with the same beam he did to Doogal, with the same intent... blanketing the same frosty coating over the girl, with the same physical side effects, but none of the mental. It seemed that all was going well, until a wooden soldier joined on a moose steed, ready to oppose Zeebad, the wizard made short work of both nuisances, and found the last diamond to be in the wooden soldier himself. "Well well, Sam.... You are so useless, but you house something so useful... Don't mind if I do.." Zeebad grinned, ripping the last diamond out of Sam, killing him...

The wizard won, he had all three diamonds, and now he could freeze the sun... He did just that, lining up each diamond, they spun around faster and faster, generating a beam aimed right at the ball of flame, freezing it over in a matter of seconds... Florence and Doogal watched in horror as the world had truly froze over... There was no stopping Zeebad now.... This was a new Ice Age, and they'd have to learn to live in it....
