DAY THREE PART ONE
It's bright and warm but he stays inside staring out a large window, a window so large it may as well be a cinema screen, a kind of porthole to the great outside, a porthole to the other side, the future, the past and the present. He cannot help but reminisce on a time from so many years prior.
It is clear to see a soft breeze is flowing on this particular bright spring afternoon. A robin redbreast comes to briefly rest on the outside window ledge. It chirps happily for a moment or two and then is gone, off to wherever that breeze may take it. Sitting, still staring, he is filled with joy, an almost distant joy. He smiles away to himself, alone for he sees meaning in something that someone else would not.
Eric lays on his right side. A smile takes to his face despite the fact that he is still sleeping.
'Wakey-wakey sleepy head, time to get up.'
Eric shrugs off the sound of a female voice as if he were a schoolboy on a weekday morning not wanting to get up for school.
'C'mon now, it's a beautiful day out there and we should be taking advantage of it.'
Once again Eric shrugs off this moment though after a pause of a couple of seconds he turns onto his left side realizing that there quite possibly could be someone or something in his bedroom. Having opened his eyes it takes Eric another second or two to react to what he sees, and he does react by reversing back, up, and out of his bed as quickly as he can.
Having been frightened by what he had seen and in somewhat of a panic, Eric finds himself on his back side on the floor being unable to see what it is that has him on his bedroom floor. He calms himself down slightly once again feeling that he is in no immediate danger. Part of him knows what is happening while another part of him refuses to believe it.
What it is that Eric sees when he manages to peer up from being under eye level of the bed, is a lady and a beautiful lady at that or at least what appears to be a beautiful lady. Again, the believing and not believing conflict with each other.
'Who are you?' asks Eric having not moved anything other than the top half of his head peer over the level of the bed.
'Do you really have to ask? Don't you recognize my voice?'
There is a slight pause before Eric responds. '... Audrey?'
'Bingo, you got it honey.'
'Oh boy.'
Eric collapses back onto the floor and stays there motionless for a good half minute. This can't be happening. He must still be sleeping. This is no dream. Feeling more in control of his cognitive functions Eric manages to get up and onto his feet.
'Wha ...? When? ... How is this possible?' he asks almost struggling to catch his breath.
'You don't really need to ask now do you? What's really important is that I am here, right?'
What it is that is now sitting on the side of Eric's bed appears to be a beautiful young lady with dark with a tint of green, straight, shoulder length hair, a lady wearing a tight-fitting red dress, a dress that flaunts what it is barely covering. In fact, what it really is that is sitting on the side of the bed as we know only too well by now is a plant, an intelligent life form with an apparent ability to morph into something more ... human.
'But ... but ... but ...' stutters Eric.
Right in front of Eric's eyes and in a matter of no more than two seconds Audrey morphs into an older looking gentleman in a cheesy dark brown suit and with a green bow tie then speaks with that male game show host like voice that it spoke with once before.
'Would you rather I look like this?'
Eric takes a step back and opens his eyes wide. 'Hell no.'
'Then what the real question should be is ...' continues Audrey upon returning to female form '... well is, where are you taking me to dinner tonight?'
'Seriously?' asks Eric feeling that he has truly indeed let himself in for something most definitely out of the ordinary.
'Yes seriously, c'mon time for breakfast while you make up your mind as to where we are going later.'
Audrey moves first and does so with swagger. Eric watches her, or it, leave the room before momentarily asking himself 'what is happening?' then he feels more than a little odd for having had that little look. Downstairs the kitchen table had been set up with an assortment of breakfast. Pancakes, fruit, maple syrup, pan fried strips of chicken, grilled sausage, and bacon and that's just the half of it.
'You did all this?'
'Oh yes, I did indeed. The internet and television are great places to learn a thing or two.'
'Where did you get all this stuff? ... Hell wait, I don't need to know, do I?'
'No, you don't.'
Eric sits, as does Audrey and the feast begins though it begins a little more rapidly for Audrey and Eric sits in awe, awe of what is in front of him, awe of beauty and an awe for this very moment. Audrey eats as if she, as if it has never eaten before. Once breakfast has been consumed Eric makes a phone call to his good friend.
'Mike good buddy, old pal. ... Whatever plans you have or had for tonight, well, you may just want to cancel them.'
