Chapter Three | Home
Ashlie let out a sharp breath as she heard Nick's tell of the youngest's name. She hadn't been captured since the end of Cory's second month with them. But she recognized the apparent pain in Nick's voice, the same as that night.
She only worked to quicken her pace, following the loud sobbing coming from Addie. It only took her a moment to spot the Nurse, Addie over her shoulder struggling. And only a moment later she saw Nick behind a tree, his eyes flickering to Ashlie. The two made eye contact and both immediately knew there would be no way for Addie to get free. She wasn't strong enough.
As the two silently spoke, they didn't realize how close a meat hook was. They only learned when a string of 'no's followed by a long cry and sobs came from Addie.
Both quickly looked over and their faces fell.
"Fuck, fuck, fuck." Ashlie could faintly hear Nick. But his string of swears was quickly covers by the noise of a generator starting. The last one.
"Start the gate! I'll get her!" Nick called, pulling attention to himself. He realized his mistake as the Nurse almost whipped around, facing him.
Ashlie hesitated before running towards the closest exit. They both led to the same place.
As she went to work, Nick realized something. He had to come up with a last minute plan to get Addie and himself out of harm. He quickly put his makeshift into plan.
He stayed in his place as the Nurse floated towards him. Then, at the last moment, he sprinted to Addie.
"Come on." He quietly said, reaching up and carefully pulling the girl off. He did his best to hold a straight face as he helped her down. But it was hard as she let out sob after sob as the hook slid out of her shoulder. "We've gotta go. I know it hurts, but we've gotta go."
Addie only grabbed onto Nick in response, him wrapping his arm around her. "Let's go."
The two made their way towards the exit, where both Ashlie and Ate could be seen.
"We've gotta go!" Ashlie called, her anxiousness clear in her voice.
It took longer than wanted for Nick and Addie to arrive to Ashlie and Ate.
"Come on, let's go." Ashlie said. She helped Nick, wrapping an arm around Addie and helping Nick carry her.
"Ashlie?" Ate near whispered. "She's really close." She wasn't lying. The Nurse was floating and was getting too close for comfort.
"We just need to get just inside and she can't pass." Nick breathed as the four traveled as quickly as possible. Ashlie, Nick, and Addie quickly recognized the sensation of passing the barrier, but Ate didn't. So as the Nurse approached, she let out a short yelp, expecting her to attack. However, a wall of spikes shot up and blocked her.
She was pulled to reality as Ashlie let out a short cry. She turned and saw Addie slumped in the two adults' arms.
"She's just unconscious. But it'll be worse if we don't get her home." Nick told the two.
"Home?" Ate didn't think there could be such a thing here.
Nick nodded. "Home."
