Chapter Seventeen | Reason

"We know that this has always been supernatural shit, but this is beyond what we've seen."

About three hours after the event between Cory and Uni, Nick had woken up. Ashlie was the first to see him and took it upon herself to explain everything that happened. Nick had experienced the most out of everyone, so she hoped that he would have some information.

He didn't.

"I was hoping you would have some insight," Ashlie said as she gently pressed an ice pack against the back of Nick's head. She was hoping it would help with the heavy swelling.

"I'm sorry. I don't. The closest thing to this are the abilities, the perks they get. But we gain our own," Nick responded. "But I'm sure you all were able to put two and two together."

She nodded. "Yeah. But even then, those perks seem to just be enhanced senses. For the most part at least. This is some extreme supernatural stuff. Beyond traps and teleporting. This is..." She shook her head as she searched for the words.

"This is stuff that would only come rituals. In the movies at least," Nick completed her thought. He seemed to be correct, as Ashlie nodded once more.

"Everyone's scared. They're scared that someone's actually going to get hurt," Ashlie muttered as she sighed. "We need to figure out a plan for what we're going to do." She rested the ice pack down on the side table. "I know you're our 'leader', but we're going to have to work together."

"I know," Nick told her. "I think Sal will be able to help. A lot. They know what happens when attacks are inflicted. They might even be able to figure out exactly what happened with Uni."

Nick was right. Though his wording wasn't the best, it was easy to understand. Sal had become extremely knowledgeable when it came to medical. They could immediately diagnose a concussion. Figure out how long a wound would take to heal. They could possibly figure out things pertaining to what happened to Uni.

"Then I'll be sure to talk to them. I'll leave you," Ashlie said as she went to stand up. However, she was stopped by a hand around hers.

"Ashlie, are you doing alright?" Nick asked, clearly concerned.

Ashlie wanted to remark with the same question, but she didn't.

"Define alright," She responded as she looked down at Nick. "I'm worried. I'm scared. I'm doing the opposite of alright." She felt Nick squeeze her hand before pulling her down. She was confused before a pair of arms wrapped around her.

"Then we're in the same boat," Nick muttered as Ashlie returned the embrace. "Ashlie, please come to me. Please. I'm here for a reason."

Ashlie sniffed before nodding.

"Okay. I will."

A/N: Hello lovely readers! Apologies for the short chapter! They will be rather short over the next two weeks or so due to a show I am in and testing at school. However, after that, chapters should become longer. Thank you so much for your patience!
