Chapter Nine | Worry
As soon as Ate nodded, Nick began to explain the Nurse to her. First, he explained the most important thing: her tactics and attack pattern. Then, he would go into what he learned about her past.
As he began speaking, Ate quickly learned that he got all information from notebooks he found lying around, and he put that information in his own. There was no way he would be able to remembers the name of Sally Smithson.
It was an understatement that she was... disturbed by what she was told. She assumed that Ashlie caught the look on her face, as the older woman frowned.
"Hey, Nick?" Ashlie asked, pulling the man's attention. "Why don't you give me the book and let me tell her about the others?" Nick frowned, seeming to want to do it himself. "You can go check on Addie and see how she's doing."
Nick seemed to be quickly convinced at the mention of the younger member. Ate realized they must have been close.
"Alright." He stood from his seat, handing the book to Ashlie as he walked by.

Nick did his best to not seem to eager to see how Addie was doing. But it was hard to as he ran up the stairs and to her room.
He slowed as he approached the door, lightly knocking on the door frame as he walked into the doorframe.
"I'm surprised you're awake," Nick commented as soon as he saw Addie's eyes open.
"Yeah, well, I can't sleep forever," Addie responded with a slight grin. "Now come help me sit up. I hate this."
Nick let out a soft chuckle before walking over to the young girl. He slowly helped her sit, flinching as she used her other hand to stifle a small cry of pain.
"Sorry. Sorry," He muttered as he bunched up her pillow and an extra blanket to support her.
"It's okay," Addie muttered as she settled back. "It's not your fault."
Nick grabbed the chair in the room and pulled to the side of her bed, before sitting down.
"I don't know. It feels like it is," He sighed as he leaned back against the chair.
"Nick, please," Addie shook her head. "You always blame yourself if I get hurt. I'm not your responsibility."
Nick only let out a dry chuckle. "Well, we both know that's not true."
"Only you," Addie told him. She reached over and took his hand. "Nick, I hate seeing you do this. Please, stop blaming yourself."
He sighed and leaned over, resting his forehead against her good shoulder. "I'm sorry," He whispered. "I just, God... I want you to be able to leave here safe. You were basically a kid when you got here. A fucking kid." His voice cracked.
Addie felt her eyes water at the crack in Nick's voice. She hated this. She hated even hearing him cry.
"And you don't deserve this. Having to be terrified about the fact if you're going to survive. If any of use are going to survive," Nick's voice became tight as he held back tears. "I don't want you to worry. I don't want you to be scared. But God, I can't do anything. I might be the 'leader', but I never feel like it."
Addie tightly held onto Nick's hand, a quiet sob escaping her lips.
The small tremor in Addie's body caused Nick to start sobbing. "I'm so sorry," He whispered. "Adeline, I'm so, so sorry that you can't be a normal kid. That you can't even look forward to anything except for the moment that you escape. I'm so sorry."
Addie let out another sob before squeezing her eyes shut.
She never wanted him to worry.
