Chapter Nineteen

Choromatsu sat down on the small sofa in his hotel room, twiddling his thumbs as he awaited a call from Todomatsu back at home.

Sighing, Choromatsu pulled a small book out of his duffle bag and began to read it. But he couldn't stand it but for just a few moments, for the smell that rolled off the pages into his nostrils reminded him of home. And oh, how he wished he could be there at that moment!

From his experiences so far, he had found some Americans to be very rude, giving him negative vibes, causing him to be reluctant to even leave his hotel room while Osomatsu got "rest" back at the hospital.

Throwing his book down, Choromatsu sighed, curling up on the sofa, resting his chin on its arm, staring at the crappy black phone on the table beside him.

"Just call already..." Choromatsu thought, still not the least bit used to American time, but he couldn't manage to remember what time it even was in Japan. "I'm tired, Todomatsu...and going to see Osomatsu is only going to make me feel worse. Just call. Call...please...?"

Despite all his silent prayers, the phone didn't ring. Well, for several more minutes, that is. But when it finally rang, Choromatsu had nearly fallen asleep.

"I've got it!" Choromatsu yelled out, snapping his eyes open as he leapt off the sofa and grabbed the phone, answering it. "Hello?"

"Hi! Choromatsu nii-san! It really is you!" Todomatsu exclaimed, trying his best to sound happy. But he was trying too hard, clearly sending the message to his older brother that he had been most likely crying.

"Yeah," Choromatsu sighed, calmly sitting back down. "So how are things? Is Karamatsu treating you well?"

"Weeeeeeeeell," Todomatsu dragged out, snickering a little. His brothers were clearly listening to him as well. "He's been calling us "burazaaaa" and stuff like that. You know, the normal painfulness."

"So you're all still alive?" Choromatsu asked, really just trying to avoid all talk of their brother Osomatsu.

"Hey, give me that back!" Todomatsu screamed, but his voice sounded far away. Then, there was complete silence.

"Um..." Choromatsu mumbled. "Hello?"

"Hi," Ichimatsu mumbled into the phone, shocking Choromatsu. Of all people, he didn't expect to speak to Ichimatsu.

"W-What do you want?" Choromatsu stuttered nervously, still having no idea how to even talk to this dark brother.

"What do you mean by..." Ichimatsu paused. "Never mind..."

"What's wrong?" Choromatsu asked.

"Tch," Ichimatsu spat into the phone. "How is Osomatsu?"

"You of all people...?" Choromatsu muttered, thinking Ichimatsu couldn't hear him. But, unfortunately, he could.

"Why do you think I wouldn't care?" Ichimatsu spat, then passed the phone over to Jyushimatsu.

"Nii-san!" Jyushimatsu yelled into the phone. "How is Osomatsu nii-san? Is he okay?! When are you both going to come back home?!"

Choromatsu felt much more comfortable, now knowing that Jyushimatsu was on the line. In one breath, he quickly replied, "He'snotdoingwellsoIdon'tknowwhenI'llbebackhomeagain."

"What was that?" Karamatsu asked, pulling the phone away from Jyushimatsu. "Is Osomatsu really not doing well?"

"He says he's fine, but he looks terrible. There's no way he'll be out of the hospital by next week, like he told me earlier today. From the way things look, I'll be staying here a long time. But luckily, everything is being paid for since it wasn't our fault the plane crashed," Choromatsu replied with another sigh.

"I see..." Karamatsu said, his voice sounding like he wasn't in reality anymore. "I guess we'll let you go now then, Choromatsu. I'm guessing you're probably about to go to sleep."

"Yeah..." Choromatsu muttered, as all of his brother's said goodbye to him over the phone.
