Chapter 6: The Severed Finger

She didn't believe me.

I couldn't believe this. It was a mess! I know what I saw and wasn't going to argue about it. There was something weird going on. It only got worst when I decided to look back...the boys were there but this time they stood still. Looking at me before running behind some trees and out of sight.

"I think I should go," I told Gabby. "I'm pretty tired."

"Wait!" Gabby grabbed my arm. She looked at me in a concerned way. "Are you sure you want to be alone right now?"

I shrugged. "I don't know..."

She intertwined her arm in between mine and we walked to my house together. When we got there, mom and dad seemed very surprised to see me with Gabby. I even saw mom try and hide a smile. I knew what they were thinking.

Thank God, she has friends.

Me and Gabby went up to my room where I told her about all of the weird things that were happening.

"New house, new problems," she said. "I don't think that it's haunted.

"I know," I said. "I don't either but people did die in here. And weird things happened after."

She laid out on my bed and played with one of my stuffed animals. "Hey, I'm just saying I believe in energy. Not ghost. This place just needs a good ol cleanse and a loving family to replace the energy."

I laughed. "That is not how it happens in movies." In horror movie the family starts off happy, then a haunting takes place and they all get depressed. I knew Gabby read my mind because she laughed a little after what she had said.

We sort of ended up ignoring the whole ghost stuff and put on a record while singing and dancing instead. It was nice, and for a good while I forgot about my problems and remembered what it was like having a friend.

Gabby decided to stay over that entire day. She even had dinner with us. She offered to help my mom with the dishes but mom said that Kass could take care of it.

"Doing dishes for your friends?" Kass looked at me. "You two are old enough. Come on," she said while leaving our things in the sink.

Gabby started doing her dishes and that's when I heard it. Everyone heard it. There was a weird sound coming from, like a child's voice.

"You guys heard that?" I said, sounding a little too happy about it.

Gabby turned off the water. We all moved the dishes out of the sink and looked inside. I don't think any of us knew what to do when we saw what was inside. Kass jumped away and threw up in the trash. I think Gabby was unaware of what it was until she picked up up. I knew what it was before that.

A severed finger, with dry blood at the end of it.

Gabby dropped in back into the sink then screamed.

Instead of it simply falling into the drain. I saw a hand quickly grab the severed finger.

"Did you see that!" I yelled out.

Both Gabby and Kass were hugging each other in a corner, peaking into the sink.

"Did you see the hand?" I asked.

"That wasn't funny, Esther!" She yelled at me. Her face was a bit red and she was upset.

"You little slug," she said while looking into my eyes while pulling  my ear.  "I knew you were playing a game. Aren't you too old for this crap?"

I yanked myself away from her, starring at both Gabby and her. They were so upset with me and it showed. I looked at the sink, horrified from what I saw with my own two eyes. It was a finger, and I was sure of it. Gabby ran out the house without warning. I didn't bother chasing her. I knew she was upset with me. My heart raced in my chest because now, no one would believe me.

Kassandra went outside. I heard her light up a cigarette. I went after her trying to explain that I was telling the truth and that it wasn't a prank.

She looked up into the sky and blew out a puff of smoke that blew in my face. "Look," she said firmly. "I had a bad date and now I'm coming home to this nonsense. Can't I just a have good day this week? Just one?"

She was really upset and took a long drag from her cigarette. I sighed because there was nothing more I could say. Before getting up, I looked at her. "I didn't do it as a prank. I didn't do it at all, Kass."

I walked into the house and back into the kitchen. I could hear the noise again. Faint little giggles and whispers coming from the drain. I kept my distance but nothing was there.

"I'm not crazy," I squeezed my hands into a fist and closed my eyes. "I'm not crazy..."
