Chapter 3: 59 Main Road
I woke up to the sound of a glass breaking. That sent me jolting up out of my bed. It took me a while to become fully conscious. I heard moms and dad telling Kass to calm down.
"Kass stop!" Mom yelled.
I slowly walked down stairs and peeked behind the corner to see what was going on. Mom and dad were both hugging Kass. There was a broken plate on the ground. I didn't bother to go inside. I knew what had happened. They were telling Kass about the news...
Mom saw me peaking out of the corner. That's when Kassandra and dad noticed me. Kass ran up to me and hugged me right, leaning her heavy body into me and crying dramatically. I tried to hold us both up but I was failing terribly. We both dropped onto the floor while I did my best to comfort her. Finally dad came over and picked her up then walked into the living room. Mom simply patted me on my shoulder then went upstairs with tears streaming down her face.
I just kinda lingered in the kitchen, not knowing what to do with myself.

I eventually left the house while everyone was occupied. I wasn't used to the neighborhood that much so I took a good look around to remember main streets and house in case I got lost. Our house was brown and beige next to other house that were more fun colors. There was no doubt we had the most dull looking house around the area, but it was better than our last place and many before that. Even though the house wasn't in the greatest shape, it was palace compared to where we lived before.
I took my longboard off the porch and went down the long road leading away from the house. There weren't many cars passing through and the more I skated down, the more trees and wood areas I passed. I slowed down a bit when I saw these two boys also skating but towards my direction going up hill. I didn't really want to converse but they took one look at my board and stopped.
"Woah, cool board!" One of the boys said. They were identical twins. Both of them had mini afros that were twisted. They dressed pretty cool. Way cooler than me and Kass ever could. I'd say they were 12 or 13. Young boys.
"Thank you," I said awkwardly, not knowing how to talk without getting nervous. "I like your boards too."
"Are you new here?" The other boy asked. I had just noticed one of his eyes were entirely white and his eyelids squinting over it. Maybe it was a bad accident or something? I was definitely curious but tried not to stare too hard.
"Yeah, moved up the road. Now I'm just checking out the area," I said.
"Woah, we know the whole area here," he replied. "I'm Marques and that's My brother, Keith. Our mom is married to the mayor. She's always doing events out here. If she knew new people moved here she would've thrown a neighborhood party."
I smiled. "That's so nice! It's okay though, we aren't really that much of a welcome," I laughed.
I realized that came out the wrong way when I saw them look at each other.
"We're a shy family," I said.
The other brother nodded. "It's okay. Us too. We'll just me and my brother. Which house did you move into? Maybe we can board together."
I pointed behind me. "The beige one that has no personality on 59 Main Road."
Marques's eye widened and his eyebrows shot up. His brother's jaw dropped. I was about to ask if something was wrong until all of us heard someone yelling. There was a women calling out from her house and waving at the boys. I figured it was their mother.
"We'll catch you later," Keith shook my hand. "What's your name?"
"Esther," I said. "Nice to meet you both."
I watched as they both walked back home. Their mother smiled and waved at me when we made eye contact. The boys pointed back to me and I thought they were saying good things until their mom's smile turned into a frown. I watched her hurry them inside the house-none of them looking back at me.
What was that about...

After a long day of skating around and taking pictures of a dirty creek that was by the house, I was finally hungry and tired. I went back home only to find that no one was home. Dad left a note on the fridge.
"Took Kassandra out for dinner. We'll bring you something back. There's leftover pasta in fridge."
I was relieved to have the house to myself. For some reason I wanted to find out more about this place. Marques and Keith seemed really bothered. I decided that I'd look around the house more. Maybe there's some old newspapers. You know, like they find in scary movies. Clues and what not. And if there wasn't, then I'd just check the handy dandy internet...
