Chapter 23

I present to you: The Calm Before The Storm, better known as the fluff I throw at you before shit hits the fan and you cry :)

As soon as their lips connected, Izuku felt a spark like he'd been shocked. It knocked him back to the real world, and he pulled back, nearly stumbling to escape. "No," he said quickly, waving his hands in front of him as he shook his head. "We're not doing this again. I'm not doing this again."

"Calm down, Iz," Shinsou said with a sigh, backing off a little. "It was a kiss, not a marriage proposal. If you don't wanna do this again, we don't have to."

Izuku wrapped his arms around himself and glared holes into the carpet beneath him. "My brothers would kill both of us," he mumbled. His brain was speeding a mile a minute, and he was working overtime to try and catch all of his thoughts.

Shinsou gave a half-shrug. "They didn't the first time."

Izuku shook his head and took a step back. "Sero would be pissed," he added.

"When isn't he?" Shinsou asked with a scoff.

When Izuku didn't respond, Shinsou sighed and closed the distance between them. His warm hands came to rest on Izuku's shoulders, jolting him out of his own thoughts as their eyes met. "All I'm hearing is what other people would think. What do you want, Iz? That's really all that matters here," he said, his voice dipping lower as he spoke.

"I'm a fucking mess," Izuku admitted, proud of himself for maintaining eye contact when he was this stressed out. "What I want is usually the opposite of what's good for me."

"You think I'm bad for you?"

"I know you're bad for me."

Shinsou shook his head, an amused smile taking over his features as he looked down at the shorter man. "Then take the weed and walk out of here."

Izuku's brows furrowed at that. "You're still gonna let me have it?"

"I like you, Iz," Izuku's breath hitched, "whether I'm fucking you or not, you're good shit. We'd be friends if none of this had gone down, and I take care of my friends. The weeds yours if you want it."

Izuku felt himself crumble with a groan, his forehead hitting Shinsou's chest as the taller man laughed above him. "Don't try to redeem yourself now," he whined.

"I've been trying to redeem myself this whole time, darling. Not my fault you're just now taking it seriously," Shinsou said, patting him on the back as he spoke.

"No, stop that," Izuku said, snapping his head up with a glare. "Don't go giving me a pet name. I don't need anymore of those."

"Zero promises, shortie," Shinsou said with a playful wink.

Izuku rolled his eyes, but felt himself genuinely smiling around Shinsou for the first time in weeks.

"So," Shinsou dragged out, eyeing Izuku carefully. "Friends?"

Izuku raised a brow at the question. "Just friends? You gonna stop trying to fuck me?"

"Oh, absolutely not," Shinsou said with a short laugh, "but something tells me that's how all your friends are."

Izuku heaved the most dramatic sigh of his life. "I hate that you're right about that."

"Yeah, yeah, go have fun with dumb and dumber." Shinsou waved him off, heading for his bed with a content smile on his face. It must have been contagious because Izuku couldn't wipe his own smile off his face for the life of him.

In an attempt to keep the good will going, he offered, "If you can play nice, you can come with."

Shinsou flopped back on his bed with a shake of his head. "I don't think Sero is ready to play nice just yet." He winced for a moment, but then his smile was back. "We'll work it out though, we always do. Try not to worry about it, darling."

"Whatever," Izuku sighed, flipping him off as he left the room because of the pet name. He heard Shinsou laughing as he shut the door behind him.

With the bag of weed in his hand, he skipped off to Sero's room, feeling lighter than he had since moving to college. He threw the bedroom door open with a flourish, lifting his hands in the air as he called out, "I've arrived with the goods!"

"Yippee!" Kaminari shouted back, bouncing on Sero's bed and knocking the other man around with his movements.

Izuku fell into a fit of giggles as he rushed for the bed, jumping on it and tossing the bag to Sero. As the biggest stoner in the group, he was in charge of grinding and packing whenever they smoked together. Kaminari whined that he was just the best at it, but they all knew Izuku and him were just too lazy. Besides, Sero didn't seem to mind.

"You're in a much better mood than I thought you'd be," Sero mused as he started to grind up some of the weed Izuku had gotten. His face was surprisingly neutral as his eyes focused on his work.

"Shinsou and I talked," Izuku admitted, knowing that they'd both want to know, and really, after all they'd done for him, they deserved to know. "Whatever we tried didn't work, but we're trying friends now. Honestly, I think we'd be a whole hell of a lot better at that."

"Thank god," Kaminari exclaimed, melting against Izuku's shoulder and forcing the other man to hold up his body. "Do you know how hard it is to be friends with people who hate each other?"

"Don't get too excited," Sero mumbled as he started to roll a joint with the ground-up weed. "I still don't like him."

"Come on, Sero," Izuku whined.

"I'm not gonna hit the guy," he said quickly, still focused on his work in front of him. "I just don't particularly like him. I can still be civil, you know."

Izuku hummed at his answer, resting his chin in the palm of his hand as he watched Sero's hands as he expertly rolled up. "I guess I'll take it."

"Good, because it's the best you're gonna get, mi corazon," he said with a playful smirk in Izuku's direction.

"One friend," Izuku said with a huff. "I want one friend that doesn't want to fuck me."

Kaminari threw his head back with a laugh, falling off Izuku's side and ending up on the mattress. "Good luck with that, Iz."

Short little chapter while I block out some major plot points and figure out how they're all gonna fit together. There might be another chapter tonight, not sure yet.
