Chapter 15
"I'm sorry," Izuku said with a small whine as he collapsed onto the couch next to Kaminari. He'd showed up at his brother's house and was immediately abandoned by Todoroki at the door. Kaminari and Sero had been in the living room, so he thought it was as good a time as any to kiss and make up. Without the kissing, of course. "I overreacted this morning."
"Yeah, you did," Kaminari said with a small laugh as he pulled Izuku to his side in a half hug that the shorter man couldn't have escaped if he tried. "Glad you're back to your senses."
Izuku softly smiled up at him before looking over to Sero. The dark-haired man was refusing to look at him, instead glaring at the TV. "Hanta," he called quietly, afraid the older man would lash out.
When he got no response, he frowned and decided to take matters into his own hands. He knew Sero and knew he couldn't stay mad at him forever. He half crawled, half wiggled over Kaminari until he could drop between the two men with a huff. He rested his head against Sero's arm and wrapped a hand around his bicep.
"I'm sorry I was such a dick this morning," he mumbled, staring blankly in front of him. "I was pissy and hungover, and I lashed out at you even though you weren't the one I was mad at. I'm sorry."
He waited a moment with bated breath as Sero swallowed, then sighed. Izuku was quickly wrapped up into another side hug and held securely by Sero. "I could never stay mad at you," he grumbled, sounding more upset with himself than anything.
Izuku smiled to himself, wrapping both his arms around Sero's waist to hug the taller man. "It's because I'm adorable. It's a survival mechanism, like how baby animals are cute to make them less likely to get eaten in the wild."
Kaminari looked over at him in mild terror. "You are horrifying, you know that?"
Izuku winked at him, unperturbed. "Oh, I'm fully aware."
"Awe, he's cute and a psychopath. Denks, do I have a type? I think I have a type," Sero mumbled behind a laugh.
Izuku felt himself nearly melt into the couch, all his tension and stress leaving as he fixed a major part of his life. Kaminari and Sero had easily become his best friends in the past few weeks, and fighting with them had made his whole being unhappy. He was once again content, and there was nothing better than that.
The lighthearted atmosphere lasted for another thirty seconds before it was shattered by Shinsou groggily walking into the living room. His hair was more of a mess than usual, and his eyes were squinting at the light in the room. He'd probably just rolled out of bed, which made Izuku frown. It was already six, when had he gone to sleep?
Shinsou seemed to wake up at the sight of the three men on the couch. He froze for a moment before releasing a tired sigh. "Great, the wonder duo is back to their cheery selves. There goes my peaceful sleep."
Kaminari playfully clicked his tongue, trying to keep the peace and avoid another fight. "If you slept at a normal time, we wouldn't be awake to be loud."
"Yeah, right," Shinsou said, sending him a dry look.
His tired eyes passed from the blond to Izuku, not looking any happier to see him than he had been to see Sero and Kaminari. "Please tell me Todoroki didn't bring you."
Izuku brought his arms back to his sides, letting go of Sero and awkwardly laughing. "Um, he's in the kitchen," he said, knowing his brother had gone in there to talk to Bakugou, who was in charge of dinner for the night.
Izuku hated to admit that he was excited. His begrudging brother was an amazing cook, and he hadn't been able to eat his food in close to a year. He couldn't help but wonder what the blond was making in there.
Shinsou let out an irritated sigh, turning on his heels and heading back the way he came. "Great. I'll be in my room, then."
Once he was gone, Izuku deflated against the couch. His teeth gnawed on his bottom lip as he lost himself in his thoughts. It seemed like Shinsou was fighting with just about every one of his friends, and it was Izuku's fault. If he'd never started messing around with the other man, no one would be mad at him. Shinsou didn't even seem like he wanted Izuku there anymore.
"Hey, knock it off," Sero said in a quiet voice, bumping his shoulder into Izuku's. "I can hear your thoughts from here. Stop blaming yourself for his own actions."
Izuku shook his head. "But-"
"Nope," Kaminari cut in quickly, shifting in his spot so his head landed in Izuku's lap and he could look up at him. "It takes two to tango, Iz. If Shinsou was really that upset about everything, he'd break it off with you. Clearly, he doesn't care that much."
Izuku let his fingers absently move through Kaminari's golden locks, watching the strands carefully. "Or he cares about me enough to lose friends over it."
"Or he doesn't care about anything but getting his dick wet," Sero prodded, wrapping an arm around Izuku's shoulders again. "Whatever the case, he's doing it to himself. Stop stressing yourself out over it."
"Fine," Izuku grumbled, letting it be for now. He'd talk to Shinsou about it later.
"Idiots! Dinner!" Bakugou's loud shout called from the kitchen.
Kaminari rolled his eyes with a dopey smile at the degrading nickname he and Sero were already accustomed to. "You know Izuku is with us, right?!" he shouted back.
"He's not gonna-" Izuku started to explain that Bakugou wouldn't care he was there; he'd still consider all three of them idiots, but the angry blond cut him off.
"Deku and idiots! Dinner!"
"Oh," Izuku mumbled, following after his two laughing friends to the kitchen. He hadn't thought Bakugou would care that much, but he'd been wrong. Ugh, the blond had never confused him so much as kids. He used to be able to read Bakugou better than Todoroki, how the hell was he surprising him now?
Kaminari skipped to his chair, pushing the one next to it out for Izuku. The bouncy blond face was split into a huge smile as he looked over the table at what Bakugou had made. "You made katsudon? That's new," he exclaimed, already dishing himself a plate.
Izuku numbly sat down, his eyes trained on the dinner in front of him. He wanted to brush it off as a coincidence, but Bakugou didn't do coincidences. "You made katsudon," he mumbled quietly, not reaching for any food.
Bakugou scoffed at him, sitting down in his own chair with a scowl. "That's what it fucking looks like, doesn't it?"
A light nudge on his arm made him tear his eyes away from the food and meet the concerned ones of Sero. "You gonna eat, baby?"
Izuku didn't even bat an eye at the nickname, too absorbed with his own terrifying thoughts. Instead of answering him, he turned to look at Bakugou with a frown. "Who died?" he asked, sounding as scared as he felt.
The blond froze at the question, as did Todoroki mid-bite. The rest of the table slowly quieted down, watching the interaction with a mix of concern and surprise.
"No one died," Ashido said with a frown, glancing at Bakugou quickly. "No one died, right?"
"No one fucking died," he grumbled, resuming his movements to make his own plate.
Izuku's eyes went back to the katsudon on the table. "The last time you made katsudon was when mom died," he whispered. "You haven't made it since."
Right after Inko had died, Izuku refused to eat anything. He managed to go two days before Bakugou angrily forced him to the table and placed a bowl of katsudon, homemade, in front of him. He'd immediately burst into tears, not only because it was his favorite dish but because it was what his mom always made for him. Whether it was a birthday, or special occasion, or just because he had a bad day, it didn't matter. Izuku had eaten the whole bowl through sobs as Bakugou and Todoroki pulled up chairs next to him and silently offered moral support. He refused to eat anything but Bakugou's katsudon for nearly a week after.
He hadn't had it since.
"You ate it for a week straight, figured you probably hated it after," Bakugou grumbled, pushing at his own food with his fork and refusing to meet anyone's eyes.
"I didn't," Izuku said with a small shake of his head. "I don't. It's still my favorite."
"Then what the fuck are you waiting for? Eat, you damn nerd."
Izuku gave a small nod, seeming to shake off whatever dark mood he'd entered with a barely-there smile. "Thanks, Kacchan." It was a whisper, but in the nearly silent dining room, it was still heard.
"Don't mention it, Deku."
"Thank god," Todoroki said with a sigh. "I was starting to think you two were going to avoid each other forever."
"Way to ruin the moment, Sho," Izuku complained with a small whine, but he couldn't fight off his smile as he dished himself a bowl.
The older man gave a small shrug, smiling as much as he ever did (which was barely). "It's what I'm known for."

After dinner, Izuku found himself outside Shinsou's door with a still-warm bowl of katsudon for the other man. He hadn't come down to eat, and Izuku knew he was the cause of all the tension. He wanted to do something nice, something that would show not everyone hated him.
He took a deep breath before working up the courage to knock, expecting Shinsou to shout through the door for him to come in or go away. What he hadn't been expecting was the door swinging open and the man in question to scowl down at him. Shinsou took one look at him and visibly relaxed, holding the door open as an invitation.
"Shoulda known it was you," he said as Izuku quickly walked into the room.
Izuku hummed as he sat on the edge of the bed, holding the food out to Shinsou as he joined him. "You didn't come down for dinner. I wanted to make sure you ate something," he said quietly, suddenly worried he'd done too much.
Shinsou took the bowl and set it on his nightstand, not bothering with it. "Thanks, shortie, but I don't really like katsudon."
He frowned at the information, unable to understand how someone didn't like katsudon. "Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't even think about that."
"It's fine. Don't worry about it," Shinsou said with a shrug, pushing himself further on the bed. He leaned back against his pillows and waved Izuku over to him. "C'mere."
Izuku felt a smile tugging at his lips as he scrambled to comply. In seconds, he was on Shinsou's lap as the older man pulled him into a kiss. He had expected it to be hard and heated, like their make-out sessions usually were, but it was surprisingly gentle.
He pulled away with a small sigh, resting his forehead on Shinsou's. "I'm sorry everyone's mad at you. I never meant for that to happen," he whispered, his eyes still closed.
Shinsou moved his hand to cup Izuku's cheek, pulling him back in for another kiss, "I don't care," he mumbled against his lips.
Their lips connected in another kiss. This one had the familiar heat Izuku had expected. He pulled away again after a few seconds. "I'm still sorry," he mumbled.
"Iz, stop talking," Shinsou said, a new urgency in his voice as he pulled Izuku back into another kiss.
They didn't talk much after that.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
An hour later, Izuku was contently drawing shapes on Shinsou's bare chest as they passed a bowl back and forth. Weed after sex just hit different.
"You planning on sleeping at the house?" Shinsou asked, breaking the comfortable silence that had fallen over them.
Izuku shifted, his chin now resting on Shinsou's chest as he looked up at him. "Seeing as Sho left right after dinner, I'd say I don't have much of a choice," he said with a small chuckle. He figured he'd just crash in Shinsou's room like he usually did.
Shinsou nodded, taking another hit before he spoke again, "Can you crash with someone else tonight? I'm supposed to be at Monoma's place in half an hour."
Izuku blinked, immediately sitting up and looking for his clothes. How could he be so stupid? So fucking stupid. What was he even thinking? God, he really was an idiot. "Oh, uh, yeah. Of course, I can. Sorry, I shouldn't have just assumed-"
"It's fine, Iz," Shinsou said with a wave of his hand, sitting up and looking for his own clothes as Izuku scrambled to get dressed. "I wouldn't mind, but I already told him I'd be there."
"Yeah, yeah, of course. Yeah," Izuku mumbled, throwing his hoodie on and tugging his pants up. "This was, uh, fun-"
Shinsou's deep laugh cut him off from saying anything else embarrassing. It was like he'd suddenly forgotten how to act around the other man, and he hated it. "Stop being so awkward, we've been hooking up for weeks, shortie," he teased while walking past and ruffling Izuku's hair. "Shut the lights off and close the door when you leave, yeah?"
Izuku watched him walk out of the room without a backward glance. "Yeah," he whispered, even though he was now alone in Shinsou's room.
They had sex, and then Shinsou kicked him out. Actually, it was worse than that. Shinsou left. His own room. His own fucking house. Izuku wasn't sure it got worse than that.
He could already feel tears welling up as he flipped the light switch and slowly shut the door behind him. Where was he supposed to go now? He supposed he could call Todoroki and have him pick him up, but that was beyond embarrassing. Not only that, but his brother would insist on hunting Shinsou down and skinning him alive. Todoroki wasn't an option.
He could go sleep on the couch. There was a light blanket and plenty of throw pillows. It wouldn't be the most comfortable thing in the world, but he could make it work. The thought of being alone the whole night made him pause. He wasn't sure if he could handle that right now.
Going to Bakugou wasn't even a thought he could entertain. He'd want Shinsou dead more than Todoroki. Plus, he had a live-in boyfriend. Kirishima was really nice, and Izuku considered him a friend, but definitely not one he wanted to see him sobbing.
Kaminari was the next obvious choice, and he almost went to him. He managed to make it to his closed bedroom door and lift his hand to knock, but stopped himself. The blond was still trying to be friends with Shinsou, and if Izuku showed up sobbing because of him, Kaminari would officially be done with him. As much as Shinsou was hurting him, he didn't want to turn his last friend in the house against him.
So, Izuku turned from his door and went to the only person he could. He softly knocked on the door, praying that he was still awake. His prayers were answered a few seconds later when Sero opened his bedroom door, a soft glow entering the dark hallway from the LED lights he had hung around his ceiling.
He was already frowning as he pulled Izuku into the room. "What's wrong, Iz? I thought you were staying with Shinsou."
Izuku weakly shook his head, a small sob slipping from his lips as Sero pulled him into a tight hug. "I-it's stupid. I shouldn't be crying. I'm sorry. Did I wake you up?"
"No, baby. I was still up," he said softly, pulling Izuku in the direction of his bed. He silently got them both settled under his blankets, holding Izuku close to his chest before asking, "Why're you crying?"
"He left," Izuku admitted, his tears lessening now that he felt safe again. It was hard to be upset when he was wrapped in Sero's arm and surrounded by him. His body, his smell, his everything. Sero felt safe. "We had sex, smoked a bowl, and he told me to find somewhere else to sleep because he was leaving."
"That son of a bitch," Sero softly hissed, his hold tightening a fraction.
Izuku shook his head before burying it in the crook of Sero's neck. "It's fine. Really. I signed up for this. I knew it was gonna be like this, I just... I wasn't thinking, or I was thinking too much, and I- I didn't expect it, I guess," he admitted quietly.
"He doesn't fucking deserve you, mi corazon."
The Spanish had surprised Izuku. Of course, he knew Sero was fluent. He'd broken out into a string of Spanish curses during their video games, often enough for him to know and have asked about it. Izuku had just never heard him say anything in the language that wasn't cursing him or Kaminari out. He wasn't even sure what it meant.
He didn't get the chance to ask, either. Sero had reached for a small remote and shut the lights off, tucking Izuku in beside him. "Get some sleep, Iz. You sound exhausted."
"I'm high," Izuku mumbled, his eyes already drifting closed. "Of course, I'm exhausted."
Sero softly chuckled at his words, a phantom kiss being placed on Izuku's temple. "Sleep, baby."
"Fine," Izuku mumbled, a wave of relaxation rippling through him. "But only because I wanna and not because you told me to."
"Of course, baby."
Oh, it's gonna get messy. Are you team Shinsou or Sero at this point? I'm just curious.
