Chapter 27: Through This Test
Clara's POV
Somebody told me you were leavin' , I didn't know
Somebody told me you're unhappy , But it doesn't show
Somebody told me that you don't want me no more
So you're walkin' out the door
Nobody told me you've been cryin' , Every night
Nobody told me you'd been dyin' , But didn't want to fight
Nobody told me that you fell out of love from me
So I'm settin' you free
Let me be the one to break it up
So you won't have to make excuses
We don't need to find a set up where
Someone wins and someone loses
We just have to say our love was true
But has now become a lie
So I'm tellin' you I love you one last time
And goodbye
Somebody told me you still loved me , Don't know why
Nobody told me that you only , Needed time to fly
Somebody told me that you want to come back when
Our love is real again
Let me be the one to break it up
So you won't have to make excuses
We don't need to find a set up where
Someone wins and someone loses
We just have to say our love was true
But has now become a lie
So I'm tellin' you I love you one last time
And goodbye
Just turn around and walk away
You don't have to live like this
But if you love me still then stay
Don't keep me waiting for that final kiss
We can work together through this test
Or we can work through it apart
I just need to get this off my chest
That you will always have my heart
Let me be the one to break it up
So you won't have to make excuses
We don't need to find a set up where
Someone wins and someone loses
We just have to say our love was true
But has now become a lie
So I'm tellin' you I love you one last time
And goodbye
.
"Alright. Sounds good. Really good." Ed smiled at me.
I smiled back and said, "And by 'good' you mean...?"
"I mean, Wow. That was mind-blowingly awesome, Clara. Were you looking for a different response?" he asked as he stood up and placed the song sheets on the table.
Fixing my sheet music in front of my, I shrugged. "No. I'm just ised to a more evaluative response."
"Evaluative?" he raised his brows at me.
I said, "Yeah. Evaluative. You know, 'It's need more of this and less of that'."
"You make me sound like I'm strict." Ed placed his hand on his chest, feigning a hurt expression.
I chuckled at him, "No. You're right, Ed. You are a hoot."
"Why, thank you, Clara."
Smiling widely, I gathered my music sheets and placed them in the safety of my bag. Then I followed Ed out of the recording booth.
"So you're not changing anything about the song?" I asked him.
Ed shook his ginger-haired head and smiled warmly. "No. But I think we could put in some background violins accompanying the piano. Maybe a bit of cello. I don't know. Just to improve the mood."
"Alright. Sounds great." I nodded.
"Plus I got the feeling that the song has great value to you. I wouldn't want to change that." he added.
My cheeks instantly flushed at the same time he reminded me of the meaning behind the song I wrote. I couldn't say anything about it since his phone started ringing.
"I have to take this." he said after looking at the screen. "I'll call my producer later about the improvements. If the plans somehow change, I have your number. Great job today, Clara. See you tomorrow."
And with that, I was out of the studio heading to my car.
It still feels a bit surreal working with one of my favorite artists, Ed Sheeran, side by side. I mean, it literally blows my mind.
Especially the day when I got a phone call from him saying that he wants to work with me on his new album. I ended up screaming and jumping with Leo afterwards. It was possibly the first time I felt that happy since my fake break-up with Luke. Which was two months ago.
On that short amount of time, I've somehow became a songwriter for one of the biggest artist in the world. Not that he needs any help with writing songs. I mean, he's Ed Sheeran. Writing beautiful songs is his breath of life.
I'm still confused as to how he knew about me or why he called at all. But honestly, I don't care. I'm living my dream.
My best friend Leo and I moved to a two-bedroom apartment at a building located in West Hollywood. It's a good neighborhood. It's better than my stepmother Helen's house. Which by theway was gone when I got home.
Apparently, Helen had so much debt trying to satisfy her materialistic greed that she even stoop so low as to steal my money. The same money that my parents left for me when they passed away. There was quite a lot of it and it was just supposed to be mine and no one else. Helen probably thought that even as my guardian she'd be allowed to have some but no. And now she's in jail for it.
Florence, on the other hand, didn't take the whole thing well. She dropped out of school, hung out with the wrong crowds and pretty soon she got caught using illegal substances which ended up as her ticket to juvie. Funny how much things can happen within months.
And before you judge me of how cruel I am, let me just say that there was a time when I wished that my stepfamily got along great with me. I wished things were better between us three but it wasn't and this whole situation happened.
During all these time, I also got the chance of explaining everything to Leo. And I mean, EVERYTHING.
The truth about my fake-relationship with Luke made Leo so furious he wanted to fly to Australia to beat up Luke. I managed to make him forget about it and let it go. It's in the past now and I don't intend on putting it in my future. Way too stressful.
I got through all of these just fine with the help of Leo, who just happened to be a college student at UCLA studying entrepreneurship. He's a great student and a smart one, too. He and his Dad talked things over and made up, too. I am so proud of him.
When I got home, I parked my car and went up the elevator of our building.
"I'm ho---Oof!"
A furry force of nature suddenly jumped at me and tried to lick my face. I laughed and bent down to pet Finn and scratch his neck.
"My big boy always knows how to greet me." I gushed as I dropped my things and went inside our apartment, with Finn trailing behind me. He's gotten so big. He's almost like a bear now.
After making dinner for Leo and I, my phone rang and I checked who was calling.
"Ed. What's up?" I answered.
"Clara. We've got the violinist coming in tomorrow so I need you to bring the music sheets plus the notes on the song, okay?" he told me.
"Got it. Anything else?"
"Nope. That's about it. We have to start planning the flow, that's all." Ed replied.
"Okay. Good night."
"Night."
As soon as we hung up, Leo got out of his room, wearing his usual sweats and a sour look on his face.
"Everything okay?" I asked.
He frowned and said, "College is hell, Clara."
I chuckled as I pushed the plate of steaming hot food in front of him. "Here you go. Dinner's ready."
"You're awesome." he said as he stuffed his face with food.
While I ate mine, he looked up at me, finally losing the grumpy look on his face. "How about you? All good in the music industry?"
I shrugged. "Not gonna complain. We're putting on the improvements of my song and then Ed will start recording soon."
"Seems like you're doing fine."
I looked at him, "Of course. Why wouldn't I be fine?"
"Well, it's just that when you were writing the song...What's it called again?"
"Through This Test." I answered.
"Yeah, that. When you were writing it, you were obviously thinking about you-know-who." Leo said.
I didn't deny it.
I was thinking about him when I wrote it. I tried not to.
But he was just.....there.
Even Leo could see it.

A/N:
Hey! Sorry about the late update. I know I missed a week but I have a perfectly good reason.
I lost my flashdrive containing the chapters of all my fanfics (including my unpublished Zayn Malik Fanfic, which will be forever gone *sob*) I'm not worried about the rest of the chapters since they're all posted here anyway. What I was stressed about were the new chapters for all fanfics. That means I had to re-type these all over again.
Anyway, seems like Clara is doing weel, right? No signs of grieving over Luke.
But is it what she really feels? Is she hiding her pain?
Let me know what you think in the comments! I love you all!
(I almost forgot. The song at the beginning is called "Let Me Be The One" by Jimmy Bondoc. He's a singer from the Philippines, if you wanna check that out) :)
