Chapter 15

What do you think of this?" I walk out of my closet, wearing all black. "Will the black scare him off or make me look cool and dangerous?" I ask my ten year old sister Melissa, who is lying in my bed, helping me pick out an outfit for my date.

"Hm. Well I liked the light blue top with the white jeans." Missy says, looking me up and down. "It was very wintery." She sits up, her light brown curls bouncing. I was going to ask Kat for help to pick out what to wear, but she is currently in Canada, visiting her cousins. I'm not going anywhere this winter, except possibly driving to some colleges to look at them, and having about twenty ten and eleven year old kids coming over for Missy and Jacob's sleepover party. We have a huge apartment, so the twins and I always have big birthday parties. White snowflakes spiral outside my window, creating a mini blizzard. I hope Jon has a car, because I don't want to have to walk to the theater in this weather. I sigh and sit down next to Missy.

"I think I'm going to call Jon and tell him that I'm not able to go today." I say, pulling my phone out. My mom got me a new phone for my birthday since the last one got broken when I threw it out the window. It had landed on the street, and got ran over by quite a few cars. Missy grabs my phone out of my hand.

"No! Lia, you need this date!" She says, and I lean over.

"Give that back!" I say, reaching for my phone. She holds my phone away from me, and scrambles to the other side of my bed. I fold my arms, and lean against the back of my bed. "Missy, I don't need this date." I say, glaring at my little sister.

"Oh yes you do! Especially if you want Grandma to stop asking you if you have found a guy." She reminds me and I sigh, admitting defeat.

"True." I say, shuddering as I remember the time my grandmother had set me up with her neighbor's son, who happened to be Missy and Jacob's age.

"Just give this guy a chance!" Missy says, taking a selfie on my phone. It'll turn out beautiful. Missy is very pretty, and an expert selfie taker. "What if he's the one and you lose him because you were to scared to go on a date with him?" She says, and I close my eyes.

"He's not the one." I say quietly, and Missy looks over at me.

"How do you know?" She asks. I sigh and give her that 'I'm your big sister and I just know' look.

"Because I don't love him." I say simply. She rolls her eyes.

"And how do you know this?" She asks, while trying to guess my password.

"I've talked to him before, you know." I say, while fingering my necklace absentmindedly. It's the one Jem gave me. I suppose I think it will bring me good luck.

"So?" She asks, looking frustrated as my phone locks itself.

"If I loved him, I would know by now. I've been going to school with him since I was your age." I remind her and she sticks her tongue out at me.

"Maybe you'll learn to love him." She says, and throws me my phone. I shake my head.

"It doesn't work that way-." I'm cut off as the door bell rings. Missy jumps up and sprints down the stairs, slamming the door behind her. I jump up and run over to the door, but it won't open.

"Sorry, Lia." A voice says on the other side of the door. It's Jacob. "Missy told me not to open your door until she opens the main one." Jacob says, and I sigh, frustrated. My little siblings are very close and will do almost anything for each other. So I wait patiently, not feeling like fighting my little brother over the door. Finally it opens, and I walk out. I walk down the staircase and see that Missy has opened one of our double, white doors. The door blocks my view of Jon. Missy's curls fall to the side as she looks up at him, and tilts her head.

"Are you...Jon?" She asks, sounding uncertain. I rush down the stairs, thinking that it is some stranger. Missy and Jacob aren't supposed to answer in case it's a stranger. I grab Jacob's baseball bat, which is lying next to our grand piano, and move towards the door, in case whoever is there tries to grab Missy.

"Hm, I'm afraid not." I recognize the voice immediately, and the bat drops out of my hands. I catch it before it hits the ground, and shake my head. Oh, I've been thinking about my time in 19th century London so much that I'm hearing voices. Great. But when the voice speaks again, I know that I'm not imaging it. "Do you know where I can find Aurelia Rose?" He asks, and Missy nods slowly.

"Aurelia!" She calls, looking at the person at the door as if they were an alien. I walk over and put my arms around Missy. Sure enough, standing in my doorway, is Magnus Bane. He's wearing a white shirt, with a black vest. His pants are a shiny gold, and his hair is spiked and glittery.

"Magnus?" I ask, holding Missy close to me.

"Hello Aurelia!" He says with a bright smile. "Wow, it's been such a long time!" He exclaims and I direct Missy inside the apartment.

"Missy this is my old friend Magnus. I'm just going to talk to him outside, okay?" I say, and she nods, still staring at Magnus. I step out of the apartment and close the door behind me. I turn to Magnus, feeling the fury in my eyes. "Two years, Magnus! You are two years late!" I whisper fiercely.

"Am I?" Magnus says, a pondering look crossing his face.

"Yes!" I shout, losing my temper. "I waited! I waited and you never came..." I trail off, shaking my head.

"Sorry, Rey." He says, seeing that I am upset. My nickname is sort of an inside joke between us, but right now, I'm too angry to joke about what happened. "I've been busy." He says.

"I know." I reply, and suddenly I realize just how glad I am to see him.

"Ready to go?" Magnus asks, looking down at me.

"Go?" I echo. "Go where?"

"Oh, right." Magnus says with a laugh. "I was wondering if you would want to stay with me for a while. I'm...well...rather lonely right now." Magnus looks down. Oh, right. He and Alec had broken up in the last book. I'm sad that I'll never know what happens in City of Heavenly Fire, including if Malec gets back together or not.

"Magnus, I would love to come with you, but there's no way that my parents would let me go with you. They don't know you." I say, and Magnus grins.

"But they know Uncle Magnus!" He declares ands snaps his fingers. He opens the door and walks inside.

"Magnus!" I say and begin to pull him out when my mom comes around the corner.

"Magnus, dear!" She exclaims and I let go of Magnus' arm and stare her in shock. He waves happily, and Missy and Jacob run into the room.

"Uncle Magnus!" They cry, smiles spreading on their face. I'm utterly astounded.

"Aurelia's all ready to go Magnus." My mom says, walking over. She hugs me and kisses me on the cheek. Missy and Jacob run over, and hug me goodbye as well. Jacob hands me Lady Cream Puff, who meows indignantly. I hold her close to my chest, and follow Magnus out the door in a daze.

"What about my stuff?" I ask, and Magnus smiles. When Magnus smiles, it reminds me of the Cheshire Cat from Alice In Wonderland.

"Already there." We take the elevator down and Magnus hails a cab. Magnus talks to the cab driver the entire way, and when we arrive at Magnus' loft, I give the driver a large tip. I follow Magnus up to the door, where he opens it dramatically. "Welcome." He says, and I walk inside, awed. Lady Cream Puff jumps out of my arms and climbs up onto Magnus' couch. It hits me all at once. I am in Magnus Bane's loft. A smile spreads across my face and I turn to Magnus.

"This is amazing!" I say excitedly, and he laughs. He points to a room down the hall.

"Your stuff is in there." He says and I nod. I walk inside my room. I change into a pair of black leggings, and a large, soft, grey shirt that says 'Team Leo' in fire colored writing. I take my hair out of the French braid that it was in, and tie it up in a loose bun. I walk out, and see Magnus sitting on the couch. "Want to watch a movie?" He asks and I jump onto the couch next to him.

"Sure! What movie?" I ask. Magnus turns the TV on.

"The Hunger Games?" He asks, and I smile. I absolutely love The Hunger Games. I remember seeing the first movie at midnight, the day that it came out.

"Yes!" I say and Magnus grins.

"I'll go get popcorn." He says, and walks into the kitchen. I look around until I find a blanket. I pick it up, and behind me, I hear a meow. Lady Cream Puff, and another cat, who I assume is Chairman Meow, are staring at each other. They look so cute. I smile, and the doorbell rings. I run over, throwing the blanket onto the couch. I look through the small hole in Magnus' door, and what I see makes me gasp. Fair hair, eyes like pure gold, a smirk on his face. Jace Herondale.
