PROLOGUE

***

"All men are created equal." That was one of the biggest lies you would ever hear. Because, unlike everyone will try to tell you, no one is equal. Not really. There will always be that one group of people who would be considered above everyone else. It was unavoidable. But, for some reason, barely anyone would believe that. There are still people living under the false narrative that everyone is given the same opportunities and treated the same by every person that they would ever meet.

You wanna know how you know it's a lie? Hiromi could explain this. She is one of the ones that are not treated fairly just because of what she is. You see, in the world she lives in, there are three groups of people. People who have quirks, people who don't, and the people who have abilities. While people with quirks were treated like regular everyday people, those without quirks or those with abilities were not. Though, there were people with quirks who were discriminated against depending on what exactly their quirk was.

People without quirks were seen as weak and looked down upon because of this. They were usually forced into normal mundane jobs, being told that becoming a hero is impossible for them since they don't have quirks. They were the civilians with hopes and dreams that were too out of reach for them. There was no way they could amount to anything useful. They were quirkless and nothing is going to change that.

Then you had ability users. They were almost the same as people with quirks except for a few facts. If you have an ability, it would appear later in your life than a quirk would, usually appearing a year or two later, sometimes even further down the line. Ability users have an extra joint in their toe like quirkless people do, but they have powers. They usually came from two quirkless parents and it's unsure why this happens. Then there's the main thing that sets them apart from people with quirks.

The thing about ability users was that they were much more powerful than quirk users. Their abilities were considered dangerous and unstable which resulted in them being ostracized from regular society. "They had the abilities of a villain!" That was what they would always hear when walking down the street. Ability users were discriminated against every day, being treated like they were the scum of the earth. No one cared about them except for other ability users. And that was the awful, horrible truth. Ability users would never be seen as the good guys no matter how much they do to help others.

But Hiromi was going to make sure to change that.
